Guest Matt Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 I just bought it, is it gonna suck ass or alter my life for the better
Guest Kinetic Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 It might not alter your life, but you should enjoy it. I thought it was pretty awesome, personally. At most, it might inspire you to buy a Polaroid camera.
Guest TUS_02 Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 I agree... it is a great movie, but to me... it didn't deserve to be Oscar nominated for Best Movie.
Guest hardyz1 Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 Well, Oscar nominations haven't been announced yet. But I still disagree with you; it deserves nomination. Great movie.
Guest TUS_02 Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 What I meant was that people said it got dicked from being nominated for a Golden Globe and will assume the same will happen on Tuesday when Oscar nominations are announced... In anycase, this is a movie that is good on it's own level and doesn't need an Oscar to prove anything... plus it's just not a movie that would/could be nominated
Guest DrTom Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 Despite the massive plot hole that pervades the entire film, I thought it was good. Probably not Oscar material, but still a solid movie overall.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 Well...I didn't see 5 movies that were better this year...but it was released too early in the year to get consideration. See: Donnie Brasco gets screwed (as does Al Pacino & Johnny Depp)... One of the only 2 truly great films that I saw this year. The other being The Royal Tenenbaums.
Guest Army Eye Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 I hope it gets nominated. Best movie of 2001
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted February 10, 2002 Report Posted February 10, 2002 Fantastic film, enjoyed it greatly.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 11, 2002 Report Posted February 11, 2002 It'll be the best movie you ever had to watch 3 times to understand. Watching it once doesnt do the movie justice, a 2nd watching is better but still not enough to fully comprehend the movie.
Guest Vyce Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 I loved it. I thought it was one of the top 5 best films of the year. Alas, I've talked with people about this film, and there's something of a split. It might be one of those movies that you either love or hate.
Guest El Hijo Del Lunatic Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 I loved every second of it. I think it was a great piece of filmmaking, and I hope it wins best screenplay. It's one of those movies where you have to sit and watch it actively to be happy with it. Some people have no patience for that stuff, I guess.
Guest Ripper Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 I thought that the idea was great(although it was borrowed from "Clean Slate") but I don't really dig the execution. Best screenplay maybe but not best movie.
Guest Army Eye Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 Hijo nailed it.. some people just do NOT like being made to think during a movie. Personally I welcome it. My two favorite movies of the year (Memento and Mulholland Drive) were both movies where you really have to do some work to figure out what in the hell is going on.
Guest Kevin Sullivan Booked My Divorce Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 Despite the massive plot hole that pervades the entire film, I thought it was good. Probably not Oscar material, but still a solid movie overall. uhh what plot hole would that be?
Guest J*ingus Posted February 14, 2002 Report Posted February 14, 2002 There are a couple, but the biggest one is probably this: how does he remember that he's got a memory problem, especially the specific details of it? (There are a couple of possible explanations for it, but they get awfully complicated and none of them fit perfectly.)
Guest godthedog Posted February 14, 2002 Report Posted February 14, 2002 about the "plot hole" (kind of a spoiler): remember the big explanation leonard gave about responding to conditioning, learning something through habit? THAT'S how he remembers, he's taught himself. the dvd comes with some supplemental material, one of which is a newspaper article about him escaping from a mental hospital. it isn't implausible that he can learn this if he's spent some time in a hospital, where presumably people have been trying to teach him that he's got a condition. also: if teddy's been helping him for over a year, it seems plausible that he's learned the other things that he "knows."
Guest RhynoesRUs Posted February 20, 2002 Report Posted February 20, 2002 KIND OF A SPOILER, too Also he doesn't have complete memory loss, so he is capable of remembering somethings, just not new things. It's a perfectly acceptable explaination for him to realize he has a "condition" to me.
Guest Dalios Posted February 20, 2002 Report Posted February 20, 2002 Considering Memento is my one of favorite movie and I have anlizsed it to be pieces and I came up with this. This Condition is not pysical but rather mental, when he got his injury something subconsicous trigger inside reminding him of Sammy Jenkins. He believes he was this condition when in truth he doesn't because. He blurs the lines of his reality with sammy's
Guest Spaceman Posted February 20, 2002 Report Posted February 20, 2002 Anyone who thinks that in 20 years Memento will not be (at least) one of the five best-remembered movies to come out of 2001 is way off the mark. Here's a pretty exhaustive analysis of the movie, for those interested: http://www.salon.com/ent/movies/feature/20...mento_analysis/
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 20, 2002 Report Posted February 20, 2002 Memento was my favorite movie of 2001...and quite frankly my favorite movie since Searching For Bobby Fischer or Ed Wood...
Guest gofez Posted February 24, 2002 Report Posted February 24, 2002 it's good, if you like that kind of thing
Guest perrinthewolf Posted February 28, 2002 Report Posted February 28, 2002 Momento was one of the best films out of 2001. Very well done.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted March 1, 2002 Report Posted March 1, 2002 Actually, I thought 2001 was a very mediocre year for movies. That being said, I though Memento was one of the more orginal movies of the year. Sure it has it's faults, but none to really make hold it against the movie. Guy Pierce gives a great performance. And I feel that this was one of the only movies of the year to really advance the film medium any further. It is definaletely a movie you can watch again, so it does have that going for that as well. I would say that it was my favorite movie of the year.
Guest converge241 Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 One of my favorites ever! great idea, story acting, and the score is underappreciated as well. The DVD and website are great too.
Guest MDH257 Posted March 3, 2002 Report Posted March 3, 2002 Great Movie Of course now Sony is screwing over everyone who bought the DVD by releasing a 2 disc special edition in May.
Guest dilk bathoon Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 hmmm, i was going to bash the shit out of it, but since everyone seems to like it, maybe i'll just keep my big mouth shut.
Guest converge241 Posted March 4, 2002 Report Posted March 4, 2002 Theyre releasing another version???? GODDAMNIT!!!!!!!! I mean I'm going to buy it but stuff like that needs to stop. Just release a special/collectors/definitive/ultimate edition THE FIRST TIME!
Guest areacode212 Posted May 30, 2002 Report Posted May 30, 2002 So...anyone know how to access the hidden features on the new DVD? DVDReview.com doesn't have anything yet
