Drama......

Guest The Mighty Damaramu

This may be silly but I'm going to ask anyways.....

Has there ever been a moment in wrestling or a video package that made you stop and go "This is why I watch wrestling....this is why I love it." or a moment that gave you that feeling inside like you've just witnessed something special. That feeling in the pit of your stomach, that tingling through your body, and that lump in your throat? Anyone? A few of mine are......

-The WCW Champions video on the Final Nitro, made me want to be a legend in wrestling some day to.

-The WMX8 Video Package...the PPV was horrible but the package before the show made it and the superstars seem legendary

-The pop after Steve Austin won the WWF title...

-Hogan slamming Andre(yes I know it's old school mark-out)

-Randy Savage surpassing all and winning the WWF title(both times)

-Chris Jericho capturing the undisputed title and the reactions of people at school who didn't watch it the next day

-Chris Benoit winning Super JCup 94: it just made me so happy to see Benoit's talent recognized.

When I stopped and thought about the WWF History video they showed...just...wow.

I have more too, just too lazy to put them down.

In no particular order:

Jericho's RAW debut

Mick Foley winning his first WWF title

The first TLC match

Steamboat defeating Savage for the IC Championship

Austin winning his first WWF title

The Owen Hart RAW tribute

The reunion of Macho Man and Elizabeth at Wrestlemania VII

The first Hardyz/E&C ladder match and their show of respect on the following RAW

Benoit and Jericho beating The Two-Man Power Trip on RAW for the tag titles

Tazz's debut and subsequent end to Angle's winning streak at Royal Rumble '99 (?)

The first time I saw the "Desire" video

I'm sure there's more...

The package before Austin vs. Rocky at WM17, really got me hyped into a match I really wasn't interested much in before hand. Benoit vs. Austin on Smackdown (I hadn't read spoilers that week) was pretty tense. Also Angle Austin last years Summerslam was pretty dramatic

My definite number one would have to be Mick Foley vs. The Rock WWF Title. No one thought Foley had a chance, and then the glass hit. People were literally jumping up and down and the place just absolutely exploded. Still one of the greatest crowd reactions that I have ever witnessed, and then of course he won the title and that was just the best.

Foley vs HHH at NWO 2000 in HIAC.  Great match, great angle, and Foley doing what's right for buisiness.  That match made me proud to be a fan.

If Hogan vs Rock from this year's WM doesn't send a chill up your spine when Hogan starts hulking up with the fans just going insane, you're too jaded. I watched it today and marked out, and it was the 4th time I seen it. It was just an amazing match. Hogan vs Andre is in the same boat. Savage winning the world title at wrestlemania IV, knowing he worked so hard, and seeing him just elated there with Liz on his shoulder and Hogan telling the fans "This guy is the man" and the fink sounding almost to the brink of tears announcing him as the champ as pomp and circumstance played will be forever etched in my memory. Hogan vs Warrior was pretty dramatic as well. Can't ya tell i'm a Hogan mark?

I'm sorta tied between both Bret and Owen Matches. The WMX one and the Summer Slam 94 one. Wrestle Mania X may get the nod though just because Owen upset Bret.

I'm with Damaramu - the Champions video on the final WCW Nitro really got me.

That whole show (sans Vince) really got me.  It all climaxed with Sting vs. Flair for the last time.  That match really had an emotional impact on me.

If ever I was to get emotional at a match, it was that one, because it signified the *true* death of WCW.  And as a WCW mark since the day I started watching wrestling, that was a sad thing to me.

I will only confess this once, so take heed... even though I can't stand Rock or Hogan, when they shook hands and did that thing after their match at WMX8, with the crowd trying to choose between the ghosts of wrestling past and future, that sent shivers down my spine and almost a tear to my eye.  The match was terrible, and I can't stand both guys' egos and overall characters, but I'll never forget that moment.

Then, in true WWF spirit, said moment was ruined by a useless nWo run-in.  THAT is why I watch wrestling... Russo is God, his booking spirit lives on...

As for other moments, I haven't been watching long enough, and I missed all the good ones already ???

I echo the WCW Champions video. When I saw it, I had tears in my eyes because I knew it was really the end of WCW.

Flair's return to Nitro in 98: Just the reaction he got and being so deeply moved that he bit his lower lip struck a chord with me.

The WWF History video with Kid Rock's song: I have it on tape and have watched it like 12 times and it STILL moves me to this day.

Ricky Steamboat winning his first-ever World Title in 89: It was so great watching one of my lifelong heroes get what he rightfully deserved.

Savage winning his first WWF Title: Savage was my favorite WWF main eventer in the 80's and when he won the belt, I completely lost it.

Flair/Sting on the final Nitro: I cried when the match ended and they hugged. Two of WCW's biggest icons ever going at it once more for the final time. It's a memory I think I will always hold on to.

The final Nitro is a must see.

Some of the classic turns.. one recent one was the ecw/wcw revolt.. all the boys just turned, and i caught onto what was happening a half second before. *mark it up*

Jericho winning the belt.

Flair's return to Nitro in 98...

I can't believe I forgot about that one... I hardly ever turned to Nitro when RAW was on, but you better believe I had the tape machine rolling for that one. The tuxes, Flair crying, the crowd absolutely rabid one minute, and then dead silent in reverence to the Nature Boy when he spoke. And he finally told off Bischoff once and for all...

Fire me?!? I'm already fired!!!

And yeah, I didn't want to mention Austin saving Stephanie from the Symbol-fixion, but since someone already mentioned it, I don't feel so girly saying it...  ;)

Raw is Owen.  I still can't believe I cried for him, for a man that I didn't even know.  That night was the most selfless thing anyone has ever done publicly in this business, ever.

The Kid Rock history package.  That made me remember all the reasons I've been a fan for so long.

Pure Drama has to be Steamboat holding onto Savage for the Win at WM3.

Savage beating Flair at WM8 and the subsequent brawl was pure drama as well.

And as shitty as the finish was Judgement Day 2000 when Taker kicked the shit of CorporateDX, but inadvertently cost Rocky the belt, was truly dramatic.

I'm sure there were a lot of Rocky marks crying when HBk called it in Triple H's favour.

Definetely Raw Is Owen, the Jeff Jarrett match..I think he went up against Edge, I could be wrong. But the finish where Jarrett applied the Sharpshooter and he looked up at the sky and you could just see the tears forming in his eyes..THAT'S what I'll always remember about Jarrett.

Along those same lines,

After HHH's match, he points to the camera and then to his heart, and then visibly starts crying.

As much of a cutthroat politician people make him out to be, at least we know that was heartfelt. His backstage goodbye to Owen was touching, too.

for me they would be...

kid rock desire video package

wcw champions video package(the funny thing is that i didnt even really know a lot of the guys or the feuds...it was just that well done that it drew a completely ignorant new school wcw kid into the moment)

Cactus vs. HHH -  the feud and particularly RR2000

During Austin/McMahon feud...damn near everytime The Glass Shattered

and The First time i watched WCW...only because it was my first taste of something different in wrestling...Cactus Jack vs. Sting(falls anywhere i think)...it was special to me...

All of mine have been said... but I'll go through my reasons-

Warrior/Hogan WM VI- This is the one match that I can never forget.  I was just a poor, 10 year old Warrior fan grasping at the hope that Warrior could end Hulkamania.  When Hogan kicked out of the Gorilla Press, I was tearing up... and the sequence after that leading to the pinned happened so fast that I don't even think I saw the pin the first time.  I looked up and Warriors music was playing and he had his hands raised.  Unbelievable moment for me.

ECW Reuinion- I was watching this with one of my buddies at home... I think the match was like Jericho and Kane vs Storm and someone else.  Anyway, I was already pretty happy to see RVD and Dreamer show up... but I noticed that guys like Credible/Dudleys/Tazz/Raven were running to help out.  I made the connection when they were doing the staredown, but didn't think it was going to happen, because I mean... why would Vince do something cool like that?  Then they all lined up and started to beat down Kane and Jericho and I went rip-shit.  Seeing them in the ring at the same time again... having fun was unreal.

On a related note, I marked out when Ken Shamrock went on an ass-kicking spree to rescue her from the Ministry.  [i specifically remember him torturing info out of Christian with the ankle lock.  "she's in the basement!"]

I remember I really thought Shamrock was going to get the chance to become a major hero blending the morality of the old megaface with the psychoaggressive attitude of the Post-Austinian face.

It never happened in the long run of course, but on that one night, he was a Knight in Shining Armor, and it was hella cool.

I remember at the first Hell In A Cell match with HBK and Undertaker, if the match wasn't awesome enough by itself. Then the lights went out, and it seemed like they were out for a minute. Then that weird spooky sounding music hit and it seemed like it went on for a minute. Then the pyro hit and out walked Kane. Say what you want about him now, but back then no one looked like that. We had heard about him for a while but I figured it would be one of those things the WWF never came through with. Then he ripped the cage door off came in and tombstoned the Undertaker. It was just awesome. Jericho's debut and Kane's debut are the two best in history (at least in my mind).

yknow when the HIAC was happening, I just knew that Kane would show up, and when the lights went out and that scray music played, I nearly crapped my pants, and I was 15 at the time and a big UT mark. I had just started going on the net and read about jacobs was going to play Kane , but i was not yet a real smark, so I still got freaked out.

foley winning woulda been much better if i hadnt inadvertely read the spoiler (well the dumb wwf.com guys put the pic on the front page) and the fact I was switiching back and forth between raw and nitro (which had the fingerpoke of doom which I predicted at the beginning of the show) so it was hard to get into it, thankfully they showed a lot of the match on livewire so i was able to tape it.  one of these days I gotta get a copy of that and the owen show.
