WWE Notes from the 3/8 Observer

The Goldberg match isn't faring all that much better to me since... Hey, where is Goldberg? Answer: NOOOO where. It's basically turned into Brock feuding with the rerferee of the match rather than the guy he's actually facing.

And the Evolution tag match has become no better as its gone away from Orton and Foley being bitter enemies and turned into the reunion tour for the Rock who is surely going to be gone in no time yet again anyway.

Christ this card had so much damn potential that a company who had actual control over its workers could have made a mint on. Instead its like half the roster is jammed into four matches (fuck anyone that complains about Paul London not being on the card, theres a dozen people on this card that should be cut OFF) and the other half is facing people that won't be around a week later or haven't been around for the build. The WWE blew a money making card out of its ass and totally screwed the pooch.

True, but it's being positioned as more important than the World Title Match. I hate Austins involvement and am starting to really hate Austin; his promo last night was piss-poor as is his promo-style. His character is a walking, talking, rotting corpse that needed to be put in its grave a long time ago.

Again, still pushed (WAY) ahead of the World Title match. That match was given half the show last night and has taken precidence over The World Title ever since Benoit showed up on RAW.

It's definitely a sloppy card. The two 4 way tag matches are really telling of their "let's cram as many people as possible on here". They've booked, like, 10 matches in the last 2 weeks. It's information overload. There isn't one clear "sell" on the card. One could make the point that there are 5 marquee matches, but none of them are Hogan-level matches, if you catch my drift. They sorta cancel each other out rather than enhancing the card in any meaningful way. Just a bunch of people who really hate each other. Meanwhile, it's being forced down your throat to the point of absurdity. There needs to be some trimming here, cause this card is very, very, fat.

I really want to hear Loss's feedback on the current WWE situations, considering how vehemently he and RRR debated about their very different viewpoints.

Defending a company to the death because they push one person (Eddie Guerrero) is one thing; defending a company that can't or (worse still) won't position its workers in the best light possible in order to maximize quality and returns is a different thing entirely.

They better be thanking the video production team for those WMXX promos because I shudder to think how the PPV would be coming off today if that team was of lesser quality or didn't exist.

I told you...speak with your wallets. DO NOT ORDER WRESTLEMANIA. Fifty bucks is fifty bucks as far as WWE is concerned.

If WWE is that much of an addiction, then go to a sports bar, bum a tape off a friend, steal cable, whatever.

Maybe it'll send the message you want to send if the "biggest Wrestlemania ever" gets the lowest buyrate ever.

Actually, that'll probably send the WWE the message that "See! Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero aren't main eventers!"

I'm actually starting to think Benoit actually isn't a main eventer and its disconcerting. Part of the job of being on the top of the heap is the ability to make yourself look good, and that is just not what Benoit is good at. Hell, he was booked to squash Matt Hardy on RAW and couldn't grab any of my attention in the process. At least when Brock squashes a guy, you know that he just killed them dead. Benoit just doesn't do that. I'm not saying the booking is helping, but Benoit isn't helping himself either.

It was too minutes long to make the point that Benoit = better than other guys... but Benoit couldn't do that because he doesn't have the sort of aura to make it look like he's dominating someone. He should have stomped the crap out of Hardy and killed him dead. Instead we get a microcasm of every Benoit match ever where he just queezes in a bunch of spots quicker than usual.

Ok, you're wrong. But that's ok, I get you. Benoit does have that aura, he proved it against Al Snow at ECW Double Tables. It wasn't to make the point that Benoit is better than other guys, it was to get over the crossface - hence the quick nature of the tap out. "Big Fucking Loser" Matt Hardy isn't exactly the best one to beat.

Yeah, damn that Benoit for not being able to make the most of the situation... the situation being a match vs. Matt Hardy for no reason that went only 2 minutes long with the purpose of getting over the crossface.

I know everyone would have loved a good 10 minute match between Benoit and Matt, but wouldn't it have been wrong to go in that direction, since sadly enough, Hardy is basically a jobber?

Edit: you basically answered that in the post above, nevermind

So Benoit should have just stomped Matt Hardy for 90 seconds and slapped on the crossface, just to satisfy you?

I'll take Scenario #1, thanks.

No, Benoit shouldn't have been booked to do a squash since he's seemingly not built for it. But if you are squashing someone its better to do it with a bit more oomph than he used against Hardy.

Goodear, you seem to just be using vague terms to describe what you wanted to see and I'm just not grasping what you mean.

How about giving a description of the layout of the match that you would have liked to have seen on Monday night?

And this better not be a way to try and justify a bad scenario....

Well if I'm booking, I don't waste time with Hardy vs Benoit at all this close to Wrestlemania since beating Hardy won't do a thing for Benoit since Matt hasn't won in like forever. If its me and I'm given the book that day for the first time, I make sure to freaking give Benoit some momentum over his actuall opponents at Mania because I think the build has been tilted in one direction.

BUT if I'm having a squash with Benoit and Matt and thats what I have to work with...

Matt does finger thing he did to Benoit at the beginning. Benoit slaps him across the mouth, chops him into a corner, stomp stomp stomp ... snot rocket. You know, simply being a lot more agressive (which has been the major problem with this storyline, Benoit is way too passive and lets too much happen to him). Follow up with a superplex or something and then crossface the guy and HOLD IT for a while. Give off the 'don't you fuck with me' vibe.

snot rocket.

I've never liked that bit.

Eh its more about the attitude he has when he does things than what he actually does. Thats what I was trying to get at.
