Opinion.. best match or event in wrestling

Recommended Posts

Guest

Now thinking on doing a day by day survey of ya'lls opinion on the best moment or match in Wrestling at a given year...

Now why did I say opinion?

Because not all of us have the same vast amount of Wrestling material than other people so you could only go with what you see.

This time 1985.

I believe in my opinion the best moment in Wrestling

Was Wrestlemania.... Now your gonna ask why..

Wrestlemania not only benifit the WWF, but in a while showcased all wrestling in North America in a Mainstream aspect. it was the first event that took a Wrestling promotion out of their respective territory and made it then a National event, which lead to a Global Phenomnia.  Of course WM matches was pretty much a bunch of Saturday Night main events rolled up. but they were started out with the idea.

Wrestlemania 1 was the template for every American event afterwards everywhere for a National Theater.

Now your opinion

Choshu's Army Invading AJPW for the next two years started in January of 1985.  Revolutionized Japanese Wrestling.  Ushered in the era of fast tag matches in AJPW that went from Choshu/Yatsu v Tsuruta/Tenyru to 12/93 Misawa/Kobashi v Kawada/Taue.  These guys going into AJPW made it final about how much more advanced that style of wrestling was work rate wise and psychology wise compared to the US product.

Nothing of note comes to mind in the US as the NWA was kind of just there and the circus went big for the first time.

This does belong in the Old Stuff folder. Which is why it's been moved here.

At Which Point does it stop being Old school since I plan on asking the same question from 85-2001  hmmm

The Old Stuff folder is for anything that's 5 years old. Which means anything from 1998-present can be posted in the WWF folder. Once 2003 comes around the year 1998 belongs in the Old Stuff folder. That should clear it up for you.

I would have to say the first WWF WrestleMania because it is one of the biggest events in wrestling history. It was beginning of what is now the biggest wrestling event of the year and an event that has such a long legacy.

Thanks.

I would vote for Wrestlemania as well.  It started a legacy that has turned into the Super Bowl of Wrestling.

Yeah I mean I don't know how you can say there was any bigger wrestling event in 1985 than the first WWF WrestleMania.

Thanks.

WrestleMania I might have been bigger in the grand scheme of things, but for me the best part of 1985 was the "I Quit" Match at Starrcade with Magnum T.A. and Tully Blanchard.  That match was done so well that even watching it today you can almost believe they really hated each other.

Was that the one with the piece of a wooden chair getting jammed into someones eye?

Yep, Magnum T.A. made Tully quit after jamming a piece of a wooden chair in Tully's head.

Cool.  I've heard about that match but now I think I might have to try and locate a copy of it.  It sounds like a real bloodbath.
