Ryuhei Kitamura

I've only seen VERSUS so far - and I thought it kicked ass. I want to check out ALIVE and AZUMI next, though. I found Alive in Chinatown the other day, but that version didn't have any English subtitles, so I was out of luck. :(

Anyone else familiar with his work?

From what I saw in Versus, yeah. Lots of great fighting scenes mixed with comedy, gore, zombies, etc.

Versus has a thin plot and is mainly all about fight scenes, gore and dark comedy, so he's good if you can enjoy movies like Versus. If you must have a solid plot in a movie to like it, then no he's not so good.

Versus is one of the best fucking movies I've ever seen. If I can find a copy of Azumi with subs that's R0 I'm picking it up.

That's an understatement. It never even names the characters

Alive is okay, but not even close to Versus. It has an interesting concept, but by the end it's like a live version of a tournament fighting game.
