Why do people not like marc mero?

I have always wondered this. It seems like this guy, but I always enjoyed him. Reasons of why or why not you liked him?

I personally like Marc Mero/Johnny B. Badd.  It was pretty funny when I was younger, because my great-aunt's second husband actually coached Mero in hockey up in NY during his youth.  This was when he was getting a decent push as Johnny B. Badd in WCW, so I thought it was cool that someone in my family knew a wrestler.

 

I liked the latter days of Johnny B. Badd.  My favorite match had to be the one he and Pillman had at Fall Brawl '95 (and not just because I'm a Pillman mark either.)  I was pretty psyched to see him in the WWF, but my interest in him wained with the whole Macho Man-esque "jealous type"/boxer angle.

 

The best WWF moment had to be when he tricked Sable into pinning him, only to roll her up for the win.

I didn't like his as Johnny B. Badd.  But I really liked him in the WWF as Marvelous Marc Mero.  I didn't think he was a poor wrestler.  His 360 splash of the top rope was nice.

 

And I loved it when he was "dating" Jackie.

I think the main reason everyone hates Mero is becuase his career was ruined by his glory hogging wife. The insane demands she was making and Mero was backing her saying how she should get them. His character was killed by her being booked over him time and time again. And then his chances at coming back to the WWF again were killed by her backstage antics.

That and his chronic knee injuries. And his whole "shoot comment" phase where he broke kayfabe on jobbing and Salvatore Sincere/Tom Brandi's real name, although that was probably Russo's dumbass idea.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of Marc Mero. Back when he first started to become reconized in WCW as Johnny B. Badd, I could never get past how much he looked like Little Richard. Too flamboyant, too flashy, too 'pretty' looking. Although he had some decent matches with DDP and Pillman, I wasn't really a Mero lover either way. Then when he came to the WWF as the "Wildman", I was somewhat entriged and impressed with some of his work. He performed moves a lot of WWF fans at the time, never seen much of before; Planchas, Moonsaults (Merosault) and excellent Shooting Star Press (The Wild Thing). This made people, like myself, stand up and take notice. My favorite Mero match had to be the King of the Ring 1996 Semi-Final against Steve Austin. The two worked there asses off, and never really got much credit for that particular match. But I liked it. Then later that year, he got the IC push. Which I didn't really like that because I wanted Hunter to have the belt at that time. Then he got injured, and ultimately became the crrrappy "Marvelous One". Oh boy..not good, not good at all. Abusive, arrogant, no talent anymore, Boxer, with Jackie, who jobbed to Butterbean....Ouch!..No wonder he faded away from WWF screens...

I think the Butterbean match was one of the best things he did after he came back from his injury. When he dropkicked Butterbean and hit him with his corner stool those were classic moments.

Johnny B. Badd, I found, was quite disturbing. The "I'm so pretty" statements and the confetti gun were a bit bizarre. As far as his ability goes, I think he was pretty good. I also say my favorite match was against Austin at KOR96(best on the card, in my opinion).

How could anyone not love Johnny B. Badd?

What were her demands? I nver knew the specifics of why Sable left. Did this all start after Playboy or before?

He only called him jobber which isnt a big deal. That was Brandis last WWF match as Salvatore right? Was the SS character a face then or just someone for Mero to pin?

I like Mero. He had some great matches in WCW towards the end of his time there, and he wasn't bad in WWF.

Yeah, it WAS an angle..no shit. But a very shitty angle at that. The Butterbean stuff only made Mero look like more of a chump. Sure, he was a golden gloves champion in the past, but I think Butterbean would have killed him if they had to go the distance, ala Bart Gunn. Mero could have been so much better, and they stuck him with that crap. Maybe I'm just pissy about it for some reason, I don't know why.

Basically, after her Playboy spread came out, she thought she deserved more money and privileges, like Chyna. Her onscreen persona was probably more in line with her real personality than people realized. She was viewed as a real bitch backstage, supposedly even falling victim of someone defecating in her gymbag. She tried to sue the Fed for either regular or sexual harassment, and was quickly and unceremoniously ousted. The suit was unsuccessful. At one point during that period, she appeared on Nitro as a audience member, while she was still under contract with the Fed, which obviously did not help her credibility.

Sincere was just a meat wrestler that Mero the character deemed undeserving to wrestle with him. I think Sincere was a heel at that point, but Mero's arrogance was supposed to turn him face, especially after he started using his real name. It seemed like they were trying to push a Brandi/Mero feud, even so far as to have Sable join Brandi, but I guess it didn't pan out. Small wonder, the guy was pretty unremarkable.

 

As for why Mero stopped doing the Merosault, Wild Thing, and other high-risk manouevers, it was due to his knee injuries. That was why he resorted to the boxing gimmick, which didn't go over quite as well. It was probably the reason the Fed gave him for terminating his contract as well.

 

Bottom line, Mero just wasn't good enough or lucky enough to stick around. I doubt many tears are being shed for him...
