Was it me, or did she have the mic REAL close to her mouth when she was doing the national anthem.  I thought for a second that she might decide to deep throat it...

 

And, yeah, her rendition of the anthem was kind of uneven too, I thought.

I don't know why singers sing the National Anthem their own way. I mean they use high notes and all that stuff. Just sing the damn song!

Exactly.  It's not meant to be an interpretive piece.  Just sing all the notes in the right order.

Blame Whitney.  She put her own stamp on the Anthem in 1991 at the Super Bowl, and everyone has tried to one-up her since.  The problem is, no one has.  I don't even like Whitney, but I'll give her props for tearing it up eleven years ago.  Goddamn, that was a good rendition of the Anthem.
