Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 21, 2002 I'm 17 and I've been watching for as long as I can remember. What really got me in to it though was when my dad showed me a tape of Savage vs. Steamboat. I just took that test thing and I'm Kurt Angle!
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted April 21, 2002 OK. As long as we are talking about what got people interested in wrestling, I have to be honest and tell you guys that I lost interest in wrestling during my junior high school days. I didn't get into it again until I saw a guy named Stone Cold Steve Austin cussing people out and taking on the Hart Foundation. I saw all of this on Shotgun Saturday Night because I didn't have cable. Has anyone been a born again wrestling fan? If so, what caused your renewed interest? Guest Report post Posted April 21, 2002 Well to be fair, I think Steve Blackman could make a case for best Hardcore Champion. What is that Triple H pic in your sig from? I got it on the "What WWF Wrestler Are You?" at: http://home.austarnet.com.au/potman/wrestling/quiz.html I ended up being The Rock, if any of you cared. But you don't. <!--emo&??? Have you taken the Luchadore one at Luchamadness.com? I was Super Crazy. I got Kurt Angle in the WWF one.

I stopped watching shorty after Disel won the WWF Title and soon after, tanked the WWF as a whole. I got back into wrestling around Halloween Havoc 95 because of the kickass reformation the Horsemen and the subsquent punking out of Sting, but it took a little while longer before I got back into the WWF side again(a couple of weeks before Survivor Series 96) but I didn't order another wrestling PPV ever until Road Wild 97(yes, I know.... it was HORRIBLE!) and vowed to never order another WCW PPV again after that atrocity. I ordered my first WWF PPV in over 3 years when I got Survivor Series 97... man, I picked some odd shows to order, didn't I?

Guest BaldGhoti Report post Posted April 21, 2002 Has anyone been a born again wrestling fan? If so, what caused your renewed interest? I read Austin 3:16, and I converted to wrasslinism! No, but seriously.. The last thing I saw before I stopped watching for the first time was Shawn Michaels' solo push. Don't remember why I stopped. I got back into it because my college roommate was a huge Rocky fan. Oh, and I got Taker on that quiz. I demand a recount!

Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted April 22, 2002 I first got into wrestling at the age of five, when it was still possible to get SKY channel in Norway without deep family connections to obscure London-based Triads. At that age, of course, I didn't understand English at all... WHat really got me hooked was when my best freind's cousin had been in England and bought a few tapes. I saw one of them with my friends and was hooked for life. The tape in Question was "Battle Royal at the Albert Hall", and I still mark out for that one, just for old time's sake. Later, wrestling came to Norway through a joint Scandinavian channel, with the Swedish announcers Arkham mentioned (still my all-time favorite announcer team after Gorilla and Jesse). And yes, I also saw Japanese, and before that, English wrestling on Eurosport. Only problem was, in addition to Liger and Benoit, those shows introduced me to... THE EQUALIZER!!! Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 22, 2002 Anyway, let's be honest here. Many of us are in our early 20s and grew up as marks in the mid-80s. Shiiiiit. There's a lot of high school guys in this sumbitch. Actually, I have a question to pose to the teenagers in here. While a lot of us 20 something guys grew up during the Hulkamania era, what was it that turned you guys into wrestling fans? My earliest memories of being a big time wrestling fan are mostly Wrestlemania 3 related. I believe I was in first grade at the time. What about you guys? Whew, I remember the figures of Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts from my childhood, but I actually got hooked on wrestling and started watching it regularly by my friend a little over a year ago, he was a cool guy but kinda shy and at first this was the only thing we can talk about, and a lot of times it's still the first thing I go to for conversation with him even though he's one of my best friends . As for being a "Scott Keith sheep", I actually made up most of who my favorite wrestlers were months before I even heard about The Smarks. When my friend first showed me Rantsylvania, I really didn't like the writing and rants and couldn't read or appreciate it, so my misinformation about past wrestling PPV's and being a true "smark" didn't really happen until just before the inVasion storyline. Regardless, I just hate on mainstream marks, and even then I don't really. Everyone is ALWAYS entitled to their own opinion on anything, provided they don't try to force it on others or make others feel uncomfortable because of it. If you actually wanna mark out for Maven, feel free. I mean I'm in love with Raven, Wrestlecrap/"so bad it's funny" booking, Green Day, and Full Moon Pictures... personal taste doesn't get much more varied and strange than that. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 22, 2002 By the way, for the "which wrestler are you" tests I got Mick Foley and Nicho (Psicosis).
Guest Report post Posted April 22, 2002 I got Austin. Damn. Would have preferred Foley. I was lucky enough to bone the only smark girl I've ever met in Ireland. Halicon days. *Sigh...*.
Guest The Wicker Man Report post Posted April 22, 2002 My markdom began back with my father who watched the old WCW (NWA..The Dusty Era... you know... a cage match every other week). I remember my dad yelling curses at JJ Dillon for interferring in all of Flair's matches and I kinda got into it. Then, Sting soon made his Debut and I marked big-time and ive been hooked ever since. Magnum TA was my all time favourite though, no question. I didnt venture into WWF territory until just before Wrestlemania 4.. I found it hard to get into a new promotion after i was so familiar with NWA stars such as The Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff, Rock'n' Roll Express and so on. Its like watching a new soap opera... trying to get to know all the new characters. One question for old fans... does anyone remember when the Bushwackers werent the funloving idiots that they became in the WWF? Anyone remember them being called 'The Sheepherders' and being a nasty pair of bastards who burnt off Al Parez's face? Man they should have kept that gimmick. Guest artDDP Report post Posted April 22, 2002 If all these marks are saying that Benoit sucks, doesn't that tell you something? Tells me he's not going to do well with a main event push. Perhaps he should be interesting to a casual fan? Maybe some sort of charisma? I've been watching since 1983 and I fell for Ric Flair and later Randy Savage. Guest Jericholic82 Report post Posted April 22, 2002 ...If you like the brewers and I were lets say a yankees fan, which I am not, but lets just say I am, should I make fun of you for liking a sub par team in my opinion, no...Think for yourselves guys. Fans of inferior teams get mocked all the time. You honestly think that Bengal fans don't get mocked? Hell the owners, players, coaches and fans are mocked by sportscasters during the entire season. Oh please we all know that if you were discussing baseball with a Yankees fan and told him you disliked the Yankees then after he asks, you say your favorite team are the Brewers or Expos they would mock the hell out of you. None those arrogant pricks will let you cheer an "inferior team" over their beloved Yankees. Everyone has opinions and when two people have different ones then someone is going to be mocked on some level. Okay, I do not appreciate generalizations. I am die-hard Yankee fan. And a true one, before they won in 96. I've been a Yankee fan for about 10 years(more than half my life). I will say that many are pricks as you say, but saying that NONE of us will let you have your own opinion is very untrue. I let people cheer whoever they want. The only time I insult someone or their team is if they strike first. I agree. I have been a big Yanks fan since I was a kid (Im 19 now) since I am originally from Yonkers, NY (near the bronx). I don't like how everyone thinks we are all badwagoners or cuz we are from NY we are all the same and were rude, mean, etc. I don't appreciate that. Geez I think people just can't believe that you can be a fan of a great team without being a phony. Examples for you are The Chicago Bulls, Dallas Cowboys, and currently The lakers (I didn't care about them before but now that people are jumping on there banwagon it gets on my nerves) It's hard to be a NYer living in California, despite the beuty and such you have to deal with lots of idiots who appear to have brain damage from the sun (see i can make up mean stereotypes too) and bad food. but anyway good topic. don't pick on the marks cuz we were all marks at one time, and infact I ahd much more fun watching wrestling before I knew about backstage politics and workrate and star ratings. btw, I do know who Don Mattingly is and he was my favorite in my early days. Guest Tuxedo Dragon Report post Posted April 23, 2002 I am a born again wrestling fan. When I was little I remeber going to wrestlemania 4 but didn't remember much of it. I would see wrestling on tv when I would get up to watch my saturday morniing cartoons when I was a little older. But it wasn't till I was in third or fourth grade hat I began to watch the show. MY friend was a big hogan mark. I watched a satuday night main event( the one where sid left hogan at the ring. ) I started watching wrestling since than. I was a big hogan mark(even though he was at the end of his wwf run, until today of course))I saw wrestlemania 8 because my mom's friend let me barrow it. Anyway after Hogan left I continued to watch wreslting but still missed hogan/. I than became a Hart mark. I would get all the payperviews from my mom's friends. I got into wcw when Sting was the champion. I was a really big fan for awhile but started to stop watching wrestling in middle school . I would go to payperviews over my dad's friends house though but eventually stopped doing that. Than in high shccol all my firends would talk about wrestling. I heard about the new europoean title and watched the owen Hart match top crown the first champ( and the whole raw) I loved it and decided to wat h it ever week. ( I woudl miss the first hour while buffy was on though, till it moved). I started to really get into it(The hart foudation,DX,Asutin,Attidue era) again and got back int wcw because of the nwo. I would falter with WCW for awhile before coming back. I satred become a smark in high school when I talked to my smark firends and starting going on sites. Than when I started college two years ago I got my own computer and was able to use the net regularly. I than became more smarklike. I still am a mark in alot of ways though. I am now starting to anyliaze matches more though. Anyway theirs my long boring story of beign a wrestling fan. PS My dad thinks we are being ripped off in ppvs because their isn;t enough soap opera and too much wrestling my friend thinks Lance Storm sucks and wanders why I route for heels sometimes. Recently he thinks that the wwf hasn't been as good since the split my dad's friend keeps on trying to find oponnets who could be lesnar( GOldberg was mentioned) I am not making fun of these people, they are my friends and family I just am getting a luagh off of them and what other marks say. I would not call them dumb for their opinions. I just humor my dad and friends when they are like that or any mark I see.Sometimes I explain my take though. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted April 26, 2002 My memory of Wrestlemania 4 was that it was long as fuck and Hogan was disqualified. I wanted Hogan to win the tournament, but his early departure took some of the appeal of the PPV away. People talk about how long and boring it was, and now for some reason, I am remembering jsut how long and boring it was. It sucked up until Macho Man won the title in the end. Thinking back, I was pleased that Hogna ran in because I felt cheated by the ending of his match.
