Rock rolling stone article

Recommended Posts

Guest bcu1979

I mentioned the article in another thread but I thought it was interesting enough to warrant its own thread. Has anyone else read it yet? It's in the issue with The Osbournes on the cover.

I thought Rock came across really well. The writer went on the road with Rock for a a couple of days and got a lot more backstage access than most reporters.

The parts I found most interesting were:

Rock getting angry at some interviewer for asking him about never winning at Mania before. He said since the business is a work it does not matter who wins or loses. The writer says some of the wrestlers who were in the room seemed taken back by Rock's comment. ( Can you believe it?  ;) )

He considers Austin and Jericho his only close friends among the other wrestlers. He's quoted as saying, "Very, very few genuine friends...I think it's probably just the industry, and how my life is."

He also talks about how lucky he has been to have never been injured badly. He brings up Owen Hart and Droz and says he has wrestled more safely since their accidents. Rock specifically mentions that he avoids moves that place his feet over his head. Rock says he has become superstitious about handicapped spaces and won't even back up into one to turn around.

In a funny moment, Hogan attempts to grab the spotlight as usual. He comes up to the writer from behind and tells him "don't believe a word the Rock tells you."

Rock also talks about how the WWF and Vince McMahon make money off his film roles. In an interesting line he says, "I get my money and he gets his...it's like paying Don Corleone."

There's also a lot of focus on how much food the Rock eats. The writer seems fascinated by the amount of food Rock eats in one setting and his love for Dunkin' Donuts.

Wow Jericho? Is that why he's jobbed to Jericho more than anyone else in the world?

The funniest part was when they were talking about Nash getting his hair dyed. How fitting.

I have a post regarding Dwayne Johnson in another thread. I thought his interview was pretty interesting to say the least.

It's not suprising to find that Rock is good friends with Austin, but with Jericho that seems suprising.  I didn't expect it that much.  Good interview about Johnson in this one.  Not a bad person backstage at all.....

I don't mean any disrespect at all to Owen But what does being careful in the ring have to do with Owen's incident? What was Rock planning on doing the peoples elbow from the rafters using a bungee cord before Owen fell?

LOL at that.

He was just being friendly...I dont think he was trying to steal the spotlight. And I am suprised Rock didnt mention Rikishi or Hogan as his friends.

I don't think it has anything to do with Rock jobbing so much for Jericho since Rock will job for anyone that Vince ask him too. Rock has become the exact opposite of the other main-eventers in that he did a few too many jobs, to the point where it has hurt his character to a degree.

But I do think the Rock/Jericho matches compared to the Austin/Jericho or Triple H/Jericho matches show the difference between a main event guy trying to help someone else move up to that top level and a main event guy worried that this new guy might steal his spot.
