Nash was the Champ. Hogan was retired and Goldberg was going to wrestle Nash but through some wacky hijinks goldberg was arrested or something and had to leave. So hogan took his spot in the match.

The MatCH:

Hogan came to the ring with Steiner

Nash came with Hall(I think)

Hogan finger poked nash. 123. Hogan's th champ and Nash hogan steiner and hall celebrted in the ring while the fans hucked garbage at them

Yeah, that's when nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac got back together.  I thought it was great personally, not so much for the business, but in terms of shock.

i liked tat i didn't have to watch hogan and nash wrestle.

Don't forget that Nash had just defeated Goldberg to end his winning streak at Starcade and it was in Goldberg's home town, Atlanta.  The Finger Poke Of Doom~! flushed Goldberg, the WCW title, and eventually WCW its self down the toliet.

Okay, full story...

In the weeks leading up to Starrcade, Hogan announced on Jay Leno that he was going to retire and run for President of the United States. Scott Steiner then takes over the nWo, because he had the most seniorority, or something. Hogan continued to do segments where he came to the ring to "rally voter support".

Goldberg was the World Champion, and been booked to face Kevin Nash for the Title at Starrcade, the daddy of all WCW Pay Per Views. Goldberg was, of course, undefeated.

Kevin Nash was still feuding with Scott Hall, who continued to interfere in his matches and such.

Okay, we get to Starrcade, Goldberg vs. Nash, main event. I cant remember how great the workrate was (HA!), but Disco Inferno ran in (Dont get me started on THAT), and Bam Bam Bigelow ran in (Again, dont)... So Goldberg hits the Spear on Nash, when a security guard leaps onto the apron, and shocks Goldberg with a tazer! Goldberg goes down, and Nash pins him, ending his streak, and winning the World Title. That magnificant bastard..

The monday after, Nash comes out, and says basically "That asshole Hall cheated on my behalf, so I dont deserve this. Next Monday night, Goldberg, you get a rematch."

Next week comes about, and it's Atlanta, Georgia.... Goldbergs hometown. Elizabeth accuses Goldberg of stalking her, so the police have no choice but to arrest him (By some weird coincidence, the "police station" was right across the street.) Hogan makes an appearence that night, rallying up support... Nash confronts Hogan outside the building, and accuses him of having a hand in Goldbergs arrest. Hogan denies it, and Nash tells Hogan to get his ass in the ring for one more fight, to "defend Goldbergs honor" or something.

Eventually, the police catch Elizabeth in a lie, so they set Goldberg free. Right after this, the main event segment starts.

The challenger enters first. Hogan comes out with current nWo leader Scott Steiner.

Then comes the Champion... he stops on the ramp, and out comes Scott Hall! The two embrace, and the fans go apeshit..

So the bell rings, and the match starts..... Nash and Hogan circle the ring a couple of times, talking shit.. then Nash stands in Hogans face, then Hogan touches Nash.. with his pinky! Nash sells it like he has been shot. He falls straight down, and Hogan QUICKLY covers him, and becomes the new World Champ. The fans then begin to realize "sumptin ain't rite".... Hall and Steiner jump in and celebrate.... here comes Luger to kick ass.. then he embraces. Various nWo members come down, except Konnan. About this time Goldberg comes charging down the ramp, and of course gets owned by the new nWo/Wolfpac. They spray-paint the belt in red nWo letters, and the show ends with Schivonie having a heart attack (or close to it)

I cried that night, I swear I did... I was another mark back then. In retrospect, the angle was AWESOME, because no one saw it coming. Certainly not me..

And the cup ran away with the spoon.

The end.

While watching that match and at first after the poke happened i thought Nash had blown out his knee or something. I totally had clue what the hell was going on.

Hmm...be nice if sometime in near future WWF could give us a good surprise(key word good) that would make people look around and wonder what the hell just happened

it WAS am awesome angle

Well thought out. Too bad it wasnt given to someone who had the same star power and some (*gasp*) wrestling talent.

But, M'eh, wCw - the fed that made me love wrestling - is dead.

I can see it this Sunday.  Triple H and Hogan get into the ring.  One person fingerpokes the other, 1, 2, 3... new nWo member. :/

You know what I found so funny about the whole thing? The NWO did an interview around maybe two weeks after the Finger-Poke of Doom and said that one of the main goals behind the entire thing was the recruitment of Luger to join them....

I swear, I hadn't laughed like that in while....

I remember watching this and saying "What the hell." and then seeing them celebrate I just laughed. Then they really kicked the shit out of Goldberg and I really laughed when they spray painted his head. Hell of a Nitro.

did this really take place the same night that Foley's title win aired?

No. The "fingerpoke of doom" occured on January 4, 1999. Foley's WWF title win occured in November 1998.

Yes, the Finger-Poke happened on 1-4-99 the same night Foley won his first title. Schiavone said the infamous "Yeah, that'll put asses into the seats." line on Foley winning the title. Raw got a huge ratings bump for that I belive.

I thought Tony congratulated Foley.  I thought he said.

Tony: "Before we go to break, we'd like to congratulate Mick Foley.  We understand he has won their World title."

Didn't he say that?  What was his full statement?

I don't remember the exact thing Schiavone said, but he put down Foley. Although he was probably told to say it by Bischoff.

He said something about putting the title on Foley and then remarked "That'll put asses in seats" or something to that effect.

BTW the finger poke of doom is fucking hilarious.  I loved seeing it right before the nWo debuted again.

I just don't see the negative to the part about flushing Goldberg... can someone give me a hint?

This is pretty close to the actual quote:

"Tonight on the other program, you will see Mick Foley win their World Title. Mick Foley, who wrestled here as Cactus Jack, will win their World Title."

:::: turns toward Brain or Tenay ::::

"Yeah, that'll put asses in seats..."

What happened to the nWo after the Fingerpoke incident? I dont remember them doing anything memorable. And didnt Hogan turn face soon after.

I'd love to Regal and Mick v. Tony Schivone

Well, they stayed together for maybe a month, then Hogan started that feud with Flair that turned him face, Hall dropped off the face of the planet, Buff turned face and feuded with Steiner(I think), Luger went on and did the "Total Package" bit, and Nash turned face again and feuded with DDP and Savage.

I KNOW Tony said the word "congratulate".  Does anyone have a DIRECT quote?  I do know that Foley called Tony about it and Tony said Bischoff made him do it.  I can understand Bischoff hating McMahon(lots of people do and for good reason)but putting down Foley and giving away his first title win was pathetic.

Eric AND Vince need to get their asses kicked.

I don't have the direct quote, but Schiavone definitely did NOT use "congratulate" to describe Mick Foley.  In fact, in Foley's second book he talked about how he called Schiavone after hearing that comment and Tony admitted he had been told to say that.  Seems to me he wouldn't have to apologize if he was congratulating him.

in foley is good, mick quotes it

somethin like this

"we have gotten word that mick foley, who used to wrestle here in WCW as Cactus Jack, and now wrestles as Mankind is going to win the Worl Wrestling Federation Title on their program which is a taped show"

I dont think that is the exact quote though

btw, I caught on to what was happening when Hall came out with Nash and knew right then.  But I kept swtiching betwen nitro and raw so i missed a little of both.  biggest mistake ever :)  foley was celebrating and i changed the channel to see what was going on

btw i think this is when Tony said "what the f### is going on here"when Luger turned.

also bischoff was on commentary for the match and acted surprised at first, then happy, he started making shock sound effects when they used the tazer.

then a few weeks later they had a nWo promo with Nash and Hogan describing their "classic match" they showed replayas and did commentary and nash said "ow you really got me there that hurt for weeks"  funny as hell

too bad the daring angle didnt do anything for wcw.  they lost lots of viewers when they announced foleys win

That was my favourite promo of all time.  I laughed my ass off at that.  I was watching it with a few friends, who were all WWF marks and they were all like "WTF" and they were laughing at it too.  It was a great angle and I don't see why a lot of smarks hated it so much.  If they'd kept Hogan heel and used that "Title win" for an angle with Goldberg and if Nash knew how to book the nWo angle right then WCW would have probably started to win the ratings war again.

I think it was something to the effect of "don't change the channel from us because on the other show you'll see mick foley winning their world title on tape...yeah, that'll put asses in seats."

A big problem with it was a lot of these guys went down with injuries in about a months time.  This was around when Sting, Luger, Macho Man and a lot of other guys were injured.  This is also the same time Jericho was used rarely on tv.

Yeah, that was because he had hinted at going to the WWF so they tried to depush him a bit until they knew whether or not he was going to stay.

I wish he had stayed in WCW, he had one of the best characters i'd ever seen on TV during that time.  If the WWF would let him do the same thing now then he'd be the most over Wrestler in the WWF.  If only they'd let him try and find a loophole to take back the WWF Title after Wrestlemania...
