Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 So I spent the last week at a camp. I gave up my spring break to spend everyday training for the Rugby Sweet Sixteen. Doing two-a-day practice at a summer camp in Austin Texas in fucking 85 degree weather. Waking up at 7 am everyday to run 3 miles. Learning to be part of a team and getting closer to my teammates. We were ready. We were ready to win a national title. We went to College Station and prepared to play. We get there expecting to watch Texas A&M play New Mexico State and then us play Sam Houston State. What happens? NMS forfeits and Texas A&M gets a bye. They get to sit around and relax while we get ready to play two games in two days. Well we beat the shit out of Sam Houston. Prove how good we are. Now it's time for Texas A&M on Sunday. We took it to them going up early 10-0. Then the ref's true colors came out. He was wearing a "League of Texas Referee's" shirt. And he proved it. He fucking made every bad call against us. If you know something about Rugby then you'll know that this is BS. He let there hooker throw the ball in not straight on Line-Outs. Straight to there jumper. No penalty. They collapsed all of our scrums. No penalty. They were offsides on EVERY FUCKING PLAY. No penatly. Just a "Get back guys" warning. But if we were offsides? Any warning? Nope. *WHISTLE* "OFFSIDES ON OKLAHOMA!" He gives Texas A&M 3 fucking chances to score when they keep committing penalties. We get into a scrum close to their goal line. They kick it into the try zone before it's even fucking out plus the scrum half gives it to them rather than dropping it in straight. He whistles it and says we have to do a scrum again. Bullshit. Our ball. They collapse the scrum. Our ball. Nope. Another scrum. They score. What does he do? Does he lift his hand and say "Try A&M!" Nope. He gets down low and leaps into the air with his fist flying up and screams "SCORE!" Bullshit. And I'm not saying this shit b/c I'm on the team. We were literally dicked over. Everyone saw the bad officiation. Even A&M questioned some of his calls. This guy was out to get us. Oh and then there was the game tying drive that we made. We drove the ball 50 fucking meters to the goal line. About 30 seconds left. We're running continual pick and jams but we can't get it anywhere b/c they're offsides on every play waiting for us. So what happens? We get pushed back a bit. We get into a ruck and start driving the ball. We drive it OVER THE FUCKING TRY LINE FOR THE SCORE. Elvis(one of our big players) FUCKING GOES DOWN AND TRIES THE GOD DAMN BALL FOR THE SCORE. What does the ref say? "BALL IS DEAD. GAME OVER. TEXAS A&M IS VICTORIOUS!" This is fucking bullshit. I wanted to punch that mother fucker out after the game. Not to mention the fact that Texas A&M was giving us cheapshots all game long. One of there guys was punching, elbowing, and kneeing our guys. And the ref was fucking blind to it. Well he purposely steps on our guys face during a ruck. The guy jumps up and gets in his face and he says "All fucking game bitch." So our guy just hauls off and just fucking lays his ass out. Punches him right in the eye leaving a cut from his nose to his cheek. The ref didn't see it. What does he do? Take it like a man and forget about it like we did? No he starts to throw a fit and nearly starts crying begging for a penalty. Well our coach told us a story. If you have followed American Rugby you may know him. His name is John Velie. He was the scrumhalf at Cal Berkley in the 80's when they won a national title. Well he tells us about how they played against 5,000 people at San Diego State one year as defending National Titles. And they just get hammered by bad officiating. The fans go nuts and just taunt them like they're nothing. They get pissed and train as hard as possible the next year. They come back and beat the piss out of SDS and then go on to win the national title from Air Force. I see a parallel there. That's us. I'm going to have a National Championship ring on my finger next season. I can feel it. And I'm going to beat the hell out of some Aggie's on my way up. I don't know why I told you all this. Just thought it was a good sports story of mine to share.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Hullaboo caneck caneck *starts in on the Aggie War Hymn* Relax it's not like the Ags can win at any real (meaning, scholarship) sports nowadays, except baseball. Yeah it sucks but in club sports, homerism is king. It sucks, but I could tell you stories of my college rugby days up in VA *gets his cane, wanders off*... Well College Rugby is not a club sport anymore. Yeah we don't get scholarships(yet) but it is a Varsity sport and it's picking up popularity. It's not a club sport, it is a varsity sport and it is very important to us. Our coach did come up to us after the game though and tell us that he was proud to play with us and that he'd never seen better college rugby played. He said that he'd play alongside anyone of us any day of the week. Then he promised us our national title soon. I can't wait for next year b/c we're going to beat A&M's ass. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2004 Well our coach is going to set up a game with us vs. them the week OU heads down there to play them football. So we'll whip there ass in Rugby then head on over to the stadium to watch there football team die at the hands of the Sooners. Ah hell.......I'm just still pissed about the shitty officiating. We busted our asses this week and they went to South Padre and had Spring Break. We gave up our spring break to get better. We were a better team. We were winning until the ref said "Uh-oh......hell no this ain't happening!" It was when we went up 10-0 that the ref started making shitty calls. Plus they had gotten a buy and didn't play the day before......that was BS. Oh well.........a positive was that there were hot camp counselors at our camp. And then chicks from various Swim and Track teams were staying at our hotel. There were girls from Brown, Tulane, Penn State, Duke, LSU, St. Angelo State, and some others. And they were all hot and I flirted with all of them...........should've tried to get with them. That would've been cool. Ah the power of being a collegiate athlete. Doesn't matter what you look like. The minute you mention you play a sport at a major college....they want you.

Saying "I'm an athlete at The University of Oklahoma" has more impact to a normal person that doesn't really follow sports than "I'm an athlete at Southwest Oklahoma University". Most of the time they've heard of the major college team and the first thing that goes to there head is what sport that school is best at and they get an impression that all athletes are like that and therefore I am one of those badasses on TV. With Oklahoma it works well b/c of the football team. If I went to say Duke it'd be the basketball team image.
