Whom did you prefer: owen or brett?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

Ok people, I've never truly saw/read this debate on this site, so I thought I may as well ask. If this has been brought up recently, then forgive me, but I don't think I've ever seen it. Anyhow...

...out of the two most famous Hart brothers, which did you prefer, Owen or Bret? Lets talk about this with an open mind, putting aside both the sympathy that we all have for Owen, and also putting aside our feelings for Bret's "crybaby" & grudge-holding attitude at times. I want you to speak your mind, based solely on their respecitive in-ring work, and in-ring work only.

Well, also take into account their WRESTLING personality and gimmicks, as that can be included in what I'm talking about. In short...

...which PERFORMER did you prefer, Owen or Bret?

First off, it's Bret.

Anyway, by far Bret was a better technical wrestler. Owen was Good also, just look at WM10 for proof.  Owen may have been better at the "High Risk" stuff but pound for Pound Bret was better. Bret's style of Wrestling I could believe going against the larger guys. Owen I could never believe could pull a win over a Yokosuna or a Vader or Taker.

Damn, thinking of Owen as Champ makes me think about Jericho. Maybe it just wasn't believable.

First off, my bad, I had a memory pause or something, as I couldn't remember if it was one or two, lol. Anyhow...

...I agree with you that Bret was the better of the two over all, and he had that Champion charisma that made him just LOOK like he should always have a title, but in actually prefer watching Owen's matches. I can't really explain it, but there is something about Owen's style that I just am really into, especially his work in Japan.

Bret Vs. Owen at WM10 was just on fire, and I would have loved to have seen both of them headline that show TOGETHER for the title, that would have just be awesome, for us, and for both of them.

Early 90's Owen was on the verge of being the best wrestler in the world IMO, as I beleive he was almost up there with Lyger.

Bret had 2 weaknesses. He had trouble with promos and he didn't not a lot of aerial offense. I'm not saying he cut shitty promos, cause quite frankly I love most of them, but he just didn't really do as good as Owen did on the mic. I mean, I know Owen has had his major blunders, but I believe the better mic worker was Owen.

Other than that, Bret was just the best. I still will love both guys  as long as I live.

Bret was the better entertainer in the big picture, but Owen was the better wrestler.  Bret had a better personality, psycology, 5 moves of Doom.  Owen was the basic Jr Heavyweight wrestler that took to the top rope when needed and could counter any move.  The only weakness that Owen suffered was his personality and the gimmicks that he used, I never like Owen as a Heel during his Nugget days.

Bret was better at helping the other guys career, whenever he feuded with someone be it Owen, Austin, HBK, Vince they always looked good in the aftermath.  All four guys became bigger than life Sports Entertainers after working with Bret.

The only time that Owen helped the other guy was in his feud with Ken Shamrock and maybe the Bulldog.  The Cage matches against Ken were great gimmick matches and help promote Ken as the Worlds Most Dangerous Man.  The European title match against Bulldog was probably his best match in his career besides the ones against his brother.

they both would be held as even moreso legends if they were popular at different times, as each one seemed to show the weakness the other had, if you really wanna call them weaknesses.

Im just gonna say bret was better

This is tough for me, as I'm a mark for both of them (and in fact most of the Hart's).

Bret was a notch or two better than Owen. Owen had the advantage in ariel stuff but Bret was defenitly the better technial wrestler. it's hard though because they were both so great but in different ways.

hmm...

When Owen turned heel...I was at that age where I thought that heels were really cool...and I really liked Owen.

I've never really liked Bret that much...not that I don't think he was a solid wrestler who was capable of having some classic matches...just that he never really got over with me.

But I was SOOOOO happy when Owen pinned Bret at Mania X.

So I guess I vote Owen.

C'mon, BRET! Maybe it was his poisiton on the card, or whatever but Bret could pull out a good match with just about anyone. He is the only guy without the initials HBK to pull out good matches from Diesel and Sid. Both his face and heel characters were awesome (the whole feud with Austin and America in 97 is still my favorite storyline ever). Bret simply had it, no matter what you did with him, the fans loved (or hated) him, he always pulled out great matches with whoever it was, Bob Backlund, Shawn Micheals, Jean Pieere Laffite, a blown up British Bulldog whoever. O, and I think it was Bret's foil that made Austin, but that's another debate.

Owen was a very good wrestler, with an awesome heel character, but maybe it's because he never got all the main event oppurtunities as Bret, but besides a temendous run in 94, Owen never really stood out. He just was never known for having those awesome feuds and matches (besides those with BRET in 94) that his older brother did. I might get some heat for saying this, but Owen's legacy has been greatly inflated since his unfortunate death. He was an amazing technical and aerial wrestler with excellent personality and charisma, but just never really stood out as the awesome performer Bret did (this is before he was ruined in WCW). It's a damn shame Owen is gone, since he indeed had potential to be a main eventer, but during his time, it would be ridiculous to rank him above Bret.

The Owen stuff in Japan is as important as Dynamite Kid /Tiger Mask in changing wrestling styles. Bret as a performer though.

I think people pick Bret over Owen because of his career. If it had been Owen who won the tag titles with Neidhart, bet Piper for the IC title, won the WWF title, and so on, people might consider Owen the better of the to, this is only in my opinion.

I liked Bret better.  He always seemed more tight with his moves and every thing he did had a purpose, somrthing Owen got away from in the last few years of his life.  Probably because of having ot wrestle shorter matches.

I think Bret was the better wrestler, but Owen was more exciting to watch.

Now that I think of it, didn't Shawn & HHH play a pretty damn big part in not only Montreal, but in Owen's push getting tanked as well?  Think about it.  Shawn wouldn't work with Owen, and when Owen won the Euro title, he beat Goldust for it because HHH was "injured" (may or may not have been legit.  But of course HHH got to beat Owen himself.  HHH then beat Owen at two separate PPVs, Owen turned heel, and that was basically the end of his career.

Fuck both of you Clique jackasses.

I prefer Bret.  Owen was a great talent and him and Bret were the two best in-ring performers the WWF had up until Bret's departure.  I like Bret's style because he gave 110% in the ring everytime and every move he pulled off was so smooth and looked perfect.

Personally, bret because he could make a good match out of anyone. Owen was great in japan and in Stampede but bret was just an amazing athlete, as was owen. whenever the faced each other, it was golden.

I always liked Bret better then Owen in the ring, maybe because he had a longer matches and was able to work with just about anybody. Hell, at his peak(94-97) he could carry a broomstcik to a 6* match easy.

Bret always seemed to be able to put in some cool and different moves into every match back in early 1990s when most guys did the same routine every match with a couple of different moves but Bret was always able to come up with something different.

Thanks.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels will always live with the guilt of depushing Owen, causing him to become the blazer, and eventually dying.

WOW,I never thought if it that way, they didn't give him a good push as Owen Hart so Vince turned him into the Blue Blazer and that's how he died.Man I never thought of it that way.

Thanks.

Forgot my explanation.  Whether Owen died or not, he was always alot more fun to watch.  His in ring work went down a little after his push went down in '95 and got stuck with Yokozuna as a tag partner, but he was still better than Bret

Whether Owen died or not,

I think it's considered fact that Owen DID legally die. ;)

Yeah, i just found Owen a tiny bit more entertaining. Just a bit more versatile in my eyes.
