Free Comic Day is supposed to bring comics to mainstream or something right?

The site tells you that your supposed to bring a couple of friends to a local comic shop to get free comics.

 

This won't bring comics to mainstream. If they wanted comics to go to mainstream, comics should lower the prices a little, and try to distribute them to grocery stores, department stores, etc.

I believe most comic shops participate in this event, to take place Saturday May 4th. A clever move if you ask me, that Marvel gives away Ultimate Spider-Man #1 as their free comic a day after the movie comes out.

DC is giving Justice League Adventures if I'm not mistaken, Image gives a Tomb Raider issue, and Dark Horse a Star Wars Tales comic with tie-ins to Episode II.

And other, smaller, companies are participating, too. I believe El Capitan is giving out an issue of Stray Bullets, Chaos is giving out some of the WWF comics, etc. Check out http://www.freecomicbookday.com

Bump. I'm telling everyone I know. I've got about 10 people who don't read comics normally to come with me.

I think this is a great way to get new, younger readers in. Marvel/DC is giving out Ultimate Spider-Man/Justice League, which are great for young readers. Plus, the older fans have good things to look forward to. The Matrix and Star Wars comics are exclusives, I believe, and for those who enjoy boobs, you can pick up Tomb Raider.
