On whether Vince ruined wrestling by having short matches and soap opera-style gimmicks: Greg said that Vince did ruin wrestling, and after the success of the '80s with good, solid matches, then stuff like Fabulous Moolah winning a battle royal in Madison Square Garden and ridiculous gimmicks like the Gobbledygooker turned fans off. He also believes the T&A has forced parents to shut off wrestling, which kids like to watch. Greg said T&A degrades wrestling and turns advertisers away. Plus, he said, wrestling doesn't have to be edgy and can be sold in a good, wholesome, but not "goody-two-shoes, sugary sweet wholesome.

>>>I just want to know what the thing about Moolah winning and MSG battle royal was about. And the XWF will never make it if Greg Valentine is still wrestling for it.

Wait a second if Moolah won a battle royal that means there had to be 20 or so female wrestlers in this thing,I never even knew there was 20 or so female wrestlers in like 1985 or so.

Thanks.

Was that a typo maybe?  Maybe Moolah winning the women's title in her 70s and Brooklyn Brawler winning a battle royal at MSG.  Those happened.

And Drury, there were women's battle royals once upon a time, but I don't ever remember any in 1985.  And none with more than 8-10 women, for that matter.  One is on the Coliseum Video "WWF's Most Unusual Matches" from 1985 or 1986.

Oh ok,yeah it might be a typo.Alright 8 or 10 woman battle royals makes more sense.

Thanks.

Still sounds like a pretty crappy battle royal.  I didn't think woman in those days took bumps over the top rope.

They didn't.  The battle royal I previously mentioned could be won by either over the top rope OR pinfall.  And that was from the 1970s if I remember correctly.

A pinfall in a battle royal, that sounds pretty stupid,it's like an 8 corners match then.

Thanks.

That match sounds like a ***** classic.

I'm figuring that was a joke,right?

Thanks.

The battle royale on "The Biggest, Strongest...." from  '86 or so was from the late 60s. And, no, they didn't take bumps then. It was entirely pinfall based, which along with it being a women's battle royale, landed itself a spot on the tape. -JM

Well, I'm almost positive that it was WWWF footage, and they weren't an NWA member until '71, so I don't think they could show it on ESPN. -Jim

The Women's Battle Royal was on Most Unusual Matches (1985).  Pinfalls were the form of elimination.  The commentary was dubbed in by Gorilla Monsoon.  It was a #1 Contender Match for Moolah's Title, so Moolah wasn't even in it.  I can't remember who won it, but the match did take place in the 60s/70s era.

Well in the WWF Wrestlefest arcade game I always preferred pinning my opponents instead of tossing them over the top in the battle royal mode. I've always been a fan of battle royals...even most of the bad ones for some reason.
