The Plaza Theatre, the best-kept secret in Montreal, is an historic art deco theatre used mainly for television tapings. The IWS & the Plaza Theatre will present one of the best production set-ups in independent wrestling including four times as many lights as the Medley. This will be the most beautiful venue ever to host the IWS. The Plaza Theatre will feature stage, floor and balcony seating. Because of the varied seating the IWS can not reserve seating for this show. We encourage fans to show up early to choose the seating that suits them best. With many fans calling "Know Your Enemies" the best IWS show ever, the wrestlers and staff of IWS look forward to doing even better at this show. Once again matches will be filmed for Pay Per View, this time in a venue designed for television tapings. Come see the IWS victimize the industry... and bring a friend. Manny, Joe (our technical director) and myself plus George, the owner of Unison went to the Borough council of Saint Laurent on Tuesday. I made a speech in French about the history of wrestling in Quebec, Manny made a speech about growing up in Saint-Laurent and getting the chance for the entire country to see his wrestling fed on TV, but not being allowed to put on shows where he grew up, and George made a speech about the restriction on wrestling hurting his business and being arbitrary and unfair especially since they let him do a kick-boxing show the week before. The Borough Mayor basically passed the buck. He referred us to the chief bureaucrat for the Ville Saint-Laurent a M. Charette and said that they had rejected wrestling because of "concerns" and that they had passed those "concerns" on to M. Charette. Now the reason that we had gone to the meeting was because this M. Charette had basically told us that the council had rejected us and that there was nothing that we could do. Despite us asking repeatedly, we were not told at the council meeting what those concerns were just that they had been communicated to M. Charette and he was supposed to tell us. Now, I assume that he was just passing the buck and didn't want to give the reasons in front of the local paper (who were very interested) and I suspect that they had never told M. Charette before that night to work with us to "address their concerns" Blame the bureaucrat in other words. That's what he gets paid for, taking the blame for the politicians screw ups. So, we have talked to this bureaucrat since that night and the big concern that he has raised so far is that they don't want Unison doing "shows" (not just wrestling) on a nightly basis. Given that we only want to do a show there once a month, and George only runs shows of any kind three to six times a month, it's not really a problem. So, fingers crossed, knock on wood, we might be able to run shows in Unison soon. Mind you that's soon by the standards of Municipal politics... Funny lines from that night: I'm holding up a poster for the kick-boxing event and asking why the Borough Council is willing to allow "real violence" and frowns on "simulated violence"... The Mayor says (in French) "I'm not qualified to distinguish between what is real violence and what is staged." Manny has just made his spiel about growing up in Saint-Laurent... The Mayor says, "I want you to know that we didn't say no to your show because of your grades in Elementary." Manny is trying to find out WHY they turned us down... Manny says, "We just want a straight answer." The entire audience (about fifty people) breaks out laughing and the former Mayor says, 'You won't get that HERE!"
