* Since he's no longer with the wwe, i'll get heat with the smarks for sure, but the kid has got something to say !!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week on Between the Ropes Brian 'Spanky' Kendrick joined the crew to discuss his current work in Zero-One, World-One, and other independents as well as his time with the WWE.

The interview began with discussion about what Spanky has been doing to keep busy, including going to theme parks. He was then asked about not having to work the WWE schedule, but he still travels about the same. Instead of working 4 days a week, he works 2 weeks at a time in Japan and then has two weeks off.

He was asked about working in Japan, and even though his dream was to be in the WWF, the problem was that he was being told to hold things back because of the effect on the other matches in the card. In Japan it does not matter how long they want him to wrestle, they go all out. There is more artistic freedom in Japan.

Brian was then asked about his decision to leave WWE, and the reaction from other wrestlers to his decision to leave. Some of the wrestlers who have not had a chance at the WWE wondered why he left. Brian got into wrestling because he thought it would be fun, but it became too much of a job, with no freedoms. He understands the way that the WWE is run. He has gotten a lot of credit from the people he has talked to who are still in the WWE.

This was a decision that he made after six months because he was going out there to do what the agents wanted him to do. Brian went to Vince to tell him that he needed to move on. After probably asking Jim Ross to find out who he was, Vince told him to talk to Jim Ross and Johnny Ace. Brian feels that he can go to Japan for a few years, and still be young enough to come back.

Brian was asked next about his work with Paul London in a tag team. He says that they were always positive, but the problem was that the company was too interested in writers who had Hollywood backgrounds instead of wrestling backgrounds. Brian still talks to Paul London. He said that even if he was on top, he would still not have the freedom that he wanted.

Brian said that it was not one incident that made him ask for his release, but he had a number of friends who would 'stab him in the back' to help them get over more in the company. Brian said that in Japan, you don't have friends who would do that.

Brian was asked about dealing with wrestlers who were trying to keep their spots, but said that he did not see that because he was trained by Shawn Michaels and Steven Regal. He was taught to act polite with the others.

Brian was asked about the gimmick of trying to ask for the job with the company, and he said that it was Paul Heyman who came up with the idea. He learned a lot by being with Nunzio and Paul Heyman, and Paul liked the underdog idea. Brian agreed with the hosts that he would strive in an ECW type promotion. Brian said that if Paul Heyman ever opened another promotion, he would join him because of the respect he has for Paul.

Brian was asked about work for other promotions in the U.S., but due to his no-compete clause, he still has time to wait before he can work for companies like TNA, even though he has a number of friends in the company.

Brian talked about his work for World-One, and he likes working for Steve Corino. Brian talked about working in Pottstown, Pennsylvania with Hidaka, where the fans would probably not know who he was. He said that these matches were for their own enjoyment, more than the fans in attendance. Brian likes being a cruiserweight in Japan because they let them work matches and 'go nuts'. He even gets to do that with the heavyweights. The American wrestlers are popular in Japan because they are 'laughable' characters. He talks about his 'Leonardo' Spanky character, and how it is a techno-Chippendales character. Brian liked the idea of a breakaway bow tie, and may incorporate it.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking

You're right about the placing - it should have gone in General Wrestling or Puroresu.

I knew what he was up to, but after reading that, it's just great to see that a worker of his talent is appreciated elsewhere, is making a name for himself, having fun and doing what he loves.
