Albums Listened to Today

Recommended Posts

Space Machine-"3"-Yamazaki Maso (Mostly known for his harsh noise project Masonna) presents a change of pace with a psychedeleic synth project, reminicent of old sci-fi synthesizer projects and albums. Made up of 3 ep's, and a live performance.

Fuck it, I don't think it's worth trying to figure out what God In Three Persons means. The Residents have a canny knack of pretending to be highbrow when they're just fucking around. I do like that album though. Everything they did in the 70 was pretty much awesome. And get Demons Dance Alone from 2002. It's their most accessible work, but don't let that put you off.

I've got the special edition... I've turned out to like them enough that being a completist would be nice. They put out so much obscure junk I doubt it'd happen though. By now I've heard all their most highly recommended albums, save Eskimo, which I hear is grand, so I'm looking forward to it.

A curious anomaly about listening to these two albums, probably intensified by listening to them both, is that on Do Somethin, one of the new Britney songs, she's pretty much rapping like Trick Daddy. I think I like that even more than Eminem doing Pee Wee Herman's laugh, because it doesn't seem like she was trying to rap like Trick Daddy.

I think Thug Matrimony is the pinnacle of dirty south albums, by the way.

The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow

The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I

Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun

El-P - Fantastic Damage

Tool - Lateralus (I only listened to about three fourths of this, as it was too boring to finish. Ehh, I tried)

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

Tom Waits - Bone Machine

Joy Division - Closer

The Shins - Oh, Inverted World

Damn, it doesn't feel like I've listened to a lot of music today. But that's a lot of music.

Boring holiday leads to much music listened to.

That's Cex, a cool mofo, though not terribly well known, doing the Bowie pose. Even though I didn't listen to it today, here's the cover of the instrumental version of that album, because I think it's cute.

It's also a freakin' intense set of music. I'm impressed you made it to other music at all after the El-P.

I also listened to Diamanda Galas' Divine Punishment, though I can't find a cover for it.

In retrospect, those were some pretty schitzophrenic album choices, although they were getting progressively more insane.

How did that Second Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle treat you?

They're almost my favorite band of the 90's now.

Not bad. It had me in a kind of trance (it was on headphones, by the way) to where it was over and it only felt like it'd been playing 5 minutes. I agree with Foetus that they were the only industrial band and nobody else should want to associate themselves with the term after that.
