The One and Only Backlash 2004 Thread

I was actually hoping that Foley would squeak out a win, even if I predicted otherwise, but it was Orton that squeaked out a win. I wonder what'll happen with Foley now.

And why the fuck wasn't Foley allowed to light up Barbie?

Fire harzard or zoning ordinances or some such thing, I'm sure

Awesome main event. And I think this proves that World Wrestling likes bringing up Montreal. To their credit, it DOES add drama to a match. It was almost like the higher ups were actively trying to make the crowd boo Michaels. He was getting booed before Hebner came in, but not as bad as when he did.

Here are my ratings:

Tajiri vs. Jonathan "Tough Enough" Coachman - *

I was surprised that Coach actually trained for this match. I was expecting a DUD. It wasn't a good match by ANY means.

Lita vs. Victoria - * 1/2

I'm very relieved that didn't give the strap to Lita. Decent crowd heat and not that bad of a match (nothing special, though).

Ric Flair vs. Shelton Benjamin - ***

Yeah, this may be a little high by other people's standards, but fuck 'em. Shelton's selling of the leg throughout the match was very nice. He even remembered which leg to sell. He didn't sell it that much after the match, but that's understandable and didn't take much away from the rating.

Edge vs. Kane - **

Not really bad, but not great either. To be fair, most of the crowd was focused on Heber instead of Edge and Kane.

Chris Jericho vs. Christian and Trish Stratus - ** 1/2

Good crowd heat and a good match. Although JR needs to stop calling Christian's inverted DDT "The Unprettier."

Cactus Jack vs. Randy Orton - *** 3/4

I'm not sure if I should rate this **** or not. Both men did great and Orton gained a lot of respect from myself and others. Foley didn't appear to have slowed down much and was actually faster than before (he did lose a lot of weight). Both men looked great here. Definitely Orton's best singles match to date.

Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - ****

Insane crowd heat in this one. Very hot ending. World Wrestling went with the right finish on this one. Not as good as 'Mania, but that's to be expected. Some may put it in the three star range, but not me.

Overall, a good show. Everyone worked hard tonight and did their best. Unquestionably the best RAW PPV yet.

I'm fine Edge feuding with Triple H now (non-title?), and hopefully, Jericho is being pushed back up to the title picture while Kane concentrates on the Undertaker.

Lets all hope they keep Edge far, far away from that big gold belt for a while.

The REAL question: Who's next for Benoit? They probably won't put him into another program until the build for Bad Blood begins. Will HHH get YET ANOTHER rematch?

If they weren't both faces, a Jericho/Benoit program would be a good idea.

What about a short Benoit/Jericho face vs face program along the lines of Flair/Steamboat?

I'm thinking either HBK/Benoit or Orton/Benoit, Jericho vs. Christain in a gimmick match (cage?), HHH vs. Edge, and Kane or Orton vs. Benjamin.

However did they do it without Austin? :P
