House show report from last night

Just got back from the Raw brand house show at the Coliseum.  Overall I liked the show more than the Raw I went to in November.  The upperdeck was barely filled, yet the crowd was louder than they were the last time the WWF came to Long Island.  The star ratings are approximates.  I can't really remember exactly how the good the matches were, so I'm rating them more out of enjoyment.

Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible & Steven Richards vs. D-Lo Brown, Big Show & Crash

Typical comedy match here.  I felt it ran a little long though.  Big Show got a pretty loud pop, D-Lo also had some heat.  The match ended when the faces pinned all three heels.  1/2*

European Title: Spike Dudley vs. William Regal

Regal wasn't liked much, but Spike generated very little heat.  The match was pretty short with Regal dominating Spike for a while.  Spike won it with a quick roll-up.  Regal attacked Spike after the match and put him in the Regal Stretch.  About *

Jazz & Molly vs. Trish & Jackie

A pretty good womens tag match here.  The heels didn't have much heat, but Trish was over.  TRIVIA NOTE: TRISH MADE HER FIRST WWF APPEARANCE AT A SMACKDOWN! TAPING IN NASSAU COLISEUM SHOW DURING MARCH OF 2000.  The heels worked on Trish for a while leading to a pier six brawl.  Molly rolled up Jackie for the win while Trish and Jazz were brawling on the outside.  *3/4

Jeff Hardy vs. Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman

I have a feeling most of the fans remember how Heyman tore them a new asshole at the Raw taping a few months because he recieved the most heat yet.  Jeff also got a respectable pop.  Jeff took the early advantage, but Brock destroyed him a few minutes in.  Hardy gets a second win and hits a swanton for 2.  Lesnar kicks out and KO's Jeff with the triple powerbomb for the win.  Matt comes out to make the save.  **

Hardcore Title: Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Goldust

Neither guy had much heat coming in.  Bubba announces that he is from Long Island and makes this match a Long Island Streetfight.  This match was actually a lot of fun to watch.  The weapons used were trash cans, lids, cookie sheets, chairs, a broom, and oranges.  Bubba gets the table, but Goldust catches him with a bulldog for the pin.  Raven runs out and DDT's Goldust, Bubba powerbombs Raven through the table to regain the title.  After the match Bubba gives a kid in the front row the broom they used in the match.  ***

Intercontinental Title: Rob Van Dam vs. Booker T

Huge pop for RVD, the fans were split 50/50 for Booker.  They go back and forth for a while.  RVD hits all his trademark moves and wins it clean with the Frogsplash.  **3/4

*INTERMISSION*

Matt Hardy w/Lita vs. Sean Stasiak w/Mr. Perfect

Matt, Lita and Mr. Perfect all good nice reactions from the crowd.  Nothing special here as Matt wins the match with the Twist of Fate.  *1/2

Ric Flair Interview

Flair comes out and claims that Long Island is long overdue for a PPV.  The last one was WrestleMania II, 16 YEARS AGO!  Flair announces that on August 25, SummerSlam will eminate from the Nassau Coliseum. *HUGE POP*  Regal comes out and bitches about a filthy place like Long Island hosting a prestigous WWF event.  Flair decks him and applies a Figure-Four.  Great segment there.

Scott Hall w/X-Pac vs. Bradshaw

I used this as my bathroom break, the line was too long during the intermission.  X-Pac still had Kane's mask on.  I came back as Bradshaw takes a stiff bump into the steel steps.  X-Pac interferes a few times leading to Hall winning it with a Razor's Edge off the top.  Match looked about **

Steve Austin vs. Undertaker

Unbelievable pop for Austin, lasts a few minutes.  The match has some psychology as both men work the arm.  A lot of chants for Austin as he was on the defensive most of match.  There were a couple of rests spots leading to a ref bump.  Austin hits Take with the Stunner, but the ref is down.  Taker chokeslams Austin, but he KICKS OUT at 2!  Taker hits him with a boot, but Austin kicks out again.  Ref gets bumped again and Taker nails Austin with a chair.  He kicks out again.  Something happens and Austin gets pinned, but he had his foot on the rope.  The ref missed it and gave the match to the Taker.  Flair runs out (HUGE POP) and restarts the match.  Austin gets Taker with the Stunner and Flair counts the 3.  VERY HOT FINISH.  Austin and Hebner end the show by chugging A LOT of beer.  ***1/4

Overall the show was a lot of fun.  Definetly one of the better house shows I have seen.  Plus my seats were pretty good too.  The only problem with the show was that the heels (Taker, Hall) were cheered, but it didn't really ruin the show.

Biggest Pops

1. Steve Austin

2. Ric Flair

3. Rob Van Dam

4. nWo (?)

5. Big Show

Most Heel Heat

1. William Regal

2. Paul Heyman

3. Jazz & Molly

4. Booker T

5. Tommy Dreamer (Imitating D-Lo)

It was pretty weird.  Once you get passed the lack of a ramp, big screen, huge pyros and lights, the show didn't really feel like a House Show.  It felt more important than it really was.

One thing about House Shows is that you almost always get clean finishes and long matches.

Doesn't sound like a terrible show.  Yeah, house shows generally are sometimes better than television series, because there's really no need for the soap opera aspect of the sport....

Sounds like a good show.  If the Taker vs Austin and Bradshaw vs Hall matches were as good as you said, then Backlash might not be half bad.
