Great wwf moments

Recommended Posts

Guest Daredevil21

Thought I'd start a thread where everyone could reply and talk in some nice detail about ONE great moment in the WWF. This way everyone can reply without sayin something that's been said.

Let's see, I'll pick one of the moments that I like a lot. Call me a wuss, poon, puss, whatever, I enjoyed the whole Randy/Liz get back together at Wrestlemania VII angle. The match was a classic and just to show you how effective the whole moment really was, it turned Savage from one of the biggest heels on the WWF roster at the time to a mega-babyface in mere minutes. All of the women and yes even some of the more sensitive men in the audience, were crying a river as Randy embraced Liz for the first time in two years, which is like 10 in the wrestling world. Bobby Heenan making fun of the crying ladies makes the moment a somewhat humorous one, but doesn't take away from the moment's purpose. Good stuff all around and it was fun to see on Excess tonight.

My favourite moment would have to be the 10 man tag from In Your House: Canadian Stampede; the only pay per view I've ever been to in person. My interest in the WWF has never been (and probably never will be) higher that it was during the 1997 Hart Foundation angle. To me there were just so many unforgettable moments from that match. The deafing cheers/boos during the opening excahnge between Bret/Austin. The huge "Austin Sucks" chant. Seeing Goldust and then Austin trapped in the wrong corner and getting beat up 4 on 1. Austin getting into a fight with Bruce Hart in the front row. Owen making the save when Bret was in the sharpshooter, and of course the victory celebration afterwards. I don't think that many of you will consider this match a ***** classic, but to me it was, and still is my favourite match of all time.

When Bobby Heenan appeared with the Big Gold Belt on WWF TV. Being a huge Ric Flair mark all the way back to his NWA days. I found that cool. Then when Ric first appeared on Prime Time Wrestling in one of his classic robes, I was marking out big.

I would have to say the Kid Rock Desire Video a couple RAWs ago was one of the best moments. It just brought back so many memories, and was put together beautifully.

Other than that it would have to be HBK winning the WWF title for the first time. I don't even like HBK that much, but it was still memorable.

Mr. Perfect dumping a pitcher of water on Heenan and turning face, simply because Heenan told him he that he wouldn't be Savage's teammate at Survivor Series 1992.

All of those are great moments in WWF history.

I however, am going to have to go with Mick Foley winning the world title for the first time.

It was just an awesome moment, and Foley just seemed so thrilled.

I would also contrast that to what was happening on Nitro, at exactly the same moment.

Finger poke of doom.

1...2...3! Hogan wins the championship, and the NWO reforms for the 30 billionth time. Yay! Or not.

The failure of WCW on that night makes the Foley win even better, especially considering what they told Schiavone to say, about the Foley victory.

I did mark out huge for the Foley win, so that's why I chose it.

BTW, I also loved WrestleMania VII with Savage/Elizabeth.

Seeing Justin Credible, Raven, and other ECW-to-WWF'ers running down to the ring to save Kane and Chris Jericho from ECW-to-WCW'ers, and then pausing, turning around, and helping in the beatdown of Kane and Jericho. Then Heyman gets in the ring with a mic, and "This Is Extreme" begins playing. A moment that made me literally begin to tear because of how much I loved, and still do love, ECW.

I loved seeing Warrior/Savage on the vault too.  That was definitely one case where the WWF really hit a home run with their booking.  Warrior got over huge, Savage got over even HUGER, and that's the one time in the WWF that I can remember where even a lot of men had to be getting teary-eyed.

My choice is from Raw in '97, the Austin/Bret street fight. (and subsequent ambush in the ambulance).  That was friggin' great TV.  I was losing interest in WWF at the time and mainly paying attention to WCW, but man after this I was fully hooked on Raw again.

I give you the immortal words of the late Andre the Giant:

"LOOK AT ME when I'm talking to you!!! I am here for one reason- to challenge you to a World Championship match at WrestleMania!"

Austin and Tyson clash on Raw, it was what really turned the WWF into the must watch program, as it helped them finally beat WCW in the ratings, just a few weeks later, plus I just thought it was well done.

Warrior/Savage deserves to go down as one of the greatest as well.  The match was a beauty and the stuff that happened after the match ended was legendary.   Great booking.

Wrestlemania 14, from my hometown.  This was not only the best PPV top to bottom that the WWF had put on in a long, long time; it's success really showed that Austin was going to be the man and two weeks later the ratings war shifted.

Im surprised no one remembers...

Wrestlemania III, Hulk Hogans slamming Andre The Giant that sent the crowd off to cheer like nuts. I dont know about other people but that had to be one of the greatest moments of the old school era.

One of my great moments would have to be... when Jericho debuted in Chicago.  It was so cool to see it live.  The crowd went nuts.

Guest What?!

When the Rock shoved Billy Gunn's face in that fat woman's ass. I'm sorry, but I just felt it was self-deserved because it was getting pretty annoying having to see Billy show his ass every damn Raw.

That and Austin storming the ring with the beer truck.

Bulldog winning the IC belt at Summerslam 92 was one of the most memorable moments i have enjoyed in the WWF. The WWF was becoming amazingly popular around that time in Britain and the anticipation for the event was incredible. For everyone in Britain the IC match was our main event and the match more than lived up to everyones expectations. Naturally almost everone wanted Bulldog to win for patriotic reasons and he was an obvious favourite for many reletively new wrestling fans in the land. The atmosphere and spectacle of the event made it seem like Wrestlemania and made it all the more memorable. Being quite young at the time i really worried Bulldog might lose and Bret being so aggressive and heelish during the match really upped the tension. Bret deserves a lot of credit for carrying a lot of the match and making it feel like the epic we all wanted it to be. He did a great professional job of putting Bulldog over and making the whole event such a memorable occasion.

I marked out big time when 123 Kid upset Razor on RAW in 1993. The jobbers almost never won back then so it was something special. There are so many similiar swerves these days that no upset will ever have a similiar impact again.

The Four Horsemen reunion in 1999 was fantastic even though it didn't really lead to anything other than some great tag matches from Benoit and Malenko. Shame that they couldn't have drawn out a Benoit/Malenko and Raven/Saturn feud because their match on Spring Stampede 99 was the best North American match of 1999.

Finally, who didn't mark out when Shane McMahon appeared on Nitro? Great stuff.

I won't say an obvious moment, but I thought Warrior getting locked in  a casket was a classic. THAT IS THE REAL TAKER!

I thought Hogan in a WWF ring this past Monday was a great moment. The "what"cha gonna do line was classic. He must have had that line ready for weeks.

How about Bret's complete evolution into a heel in 1997? Starting with the classic moment where he pushed down Vince Mcmahon after a cage match and went on a profanity laced tirade ending with my favorite line: "Im the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be...and if you don't like it TOUGH SHIT!"

Of course coming out and stoping Owen and Bulldog from fighting and their group embrace in the ring, with Owen and Davey getting all emotional and Bret giving this snide GLARE at the audience.

Of course the previously mentioned street fight from RAW where Austin destroyed Bret's leg with a chair and then hijacked his ambulance!

Bret was awesome...

Some other classic WWF moments:

"Horowitz wins!  Horowitz wins!"  Even without the internet, you could just tell it was coming.  Too bad it killed any chance Candido had of ever being over without Tammy.

ECW's initial WWF invasion in 1996.  Died off after they stopped using RVD on WWF TV, but this stuff is really underrated.

The Hogan-Warrior match at WrestleMania VI.  Say what you want to about those two guys, but this match has stood the test of time better than just about every other WrestleMania match ever.  One of the few times they've ever gotten face vs. face right.

My all-time favorite though is Piper hitting Snuka with the coconut on Piper's Pit.  Too bad they never got the proper blowoff.

The day after WM 14.  Sean Waltman returns from his two years as an "endentured servant" in wcw and cuts the shoot promo we all wanted to hear. "Hulk Hogan, you suck pal...."

Royal Rumble 92: Flair winning the rumble was great, but I thought THE moment of the card was Piper defeating The Mountie (yeah, i know) for the IC title.  It was Piper's first wwf title win of any kind and I thought it was way cool that somebody that was so important in the evoluton of the WWF empire was finally thrown a bone.

In my short career as a WWF fan, my most memorable moment was the first night that the purchase of WCW was on television. That night was unreal. Something that had been going for so long was actually over, and it took Vince on television talking about how he owned all their contracts etc. for it to finally sink in... The WCW vs WWF ratings war was over, for ever.

I marked out when Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit won the tag titles on RAW

That was going to be mine...I was a total mark during that much, for once you couldn't tell who was going to win.

I'm going to cheat as its not WWF and have another - Ron Simmons pinning Vader for the WCW title.

For me, even though it was wcw, my favourite moment was probably the final peek in Bischoff's booking.

In 1997 at a PPV, i forget which one, the nWo was celebrating another screwjob victory in the ring, when absoloutely out of nowhere Sting lowered from the ceiling, annihilated each member of the nWo with his back bat and then stood in the ring and pointed the bat at hogan, Sting had the coldest most determined look in his face and really sold the moment. The fans went absoloutely apeshit, just as i did at home, it was just like 'Wholly fucking shit' it's just a shame Bischoff blew the angle as badly as he blew hogan.

Owen Hart putting on the face act getting Helen Hart to throw in the towel in the Bob Backlund/Bret Hart match. Awesome angle, still one of my favorite matches of all time next to...

Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart cage match. My favorite match of all time and the finish was prerfect having all the Harts climb the cage to get at Owen and Anvil.

The whole Royal Rumble 1992 was just well thought out and came out very entertaining. Its probably one of the only matches i like JUST for the commentary alone. Bobby Hennan's reaction to Ric Flair's Entry at #3 was the funniest thing id heard on wrestling at the time. Plus it had pretty much my favorite wrestlers in the ring at the same time. Bulldog, Martel, Flair, Hogan, Piper, Sid, and even REPO MAN! This is by far the best rumble ever, just due to the fact that many didnt know who was gonna win the thing, not like nowadays. Plus the whole Flair-based commentary from Hennan just gave it the extra push.
