A few days into the hockey playoffs

Vancouver is leading the series 2-0 against Detroit.

Also Carolina is leading the series 2-0 against New Jersey.

Montreal is leading the series 1-0 against over Boston.

Maybe Detroit is really slumping, or just really in pain. New Jersey should have kept Arnott and McKay, and Boston is a fluke team (note this is only one game).

Its made an interesting playoffs now, and if Detroit goes out in the first round, and if its a sweep, a lot of playoff pools will be changed, and it would be anybody's chance to get the cup.

GO HABS GO.

Every Boston team seems to do decent in the season, then do horrible in the playoffs. (I know Patriots won, but before this year the same thing happend to them.)

By the way I am from Boston.

The biggest surprise is definetly Carolina up on NJ.  Its not the lack of Arnott and McKay, but rather that they are extremely beat up.  When you take into account that they were missing Sykora, Nieuwendyk, Gomez and Richer the first game and Gomez and Richer again in game 2 (while Sykora and Nieuwendyk were not 100%) its explainable.

As for Detroit, its not as much that they are slumping as a team but rather that Hasek has just been brutal lately.  Detroits played good enough to beat Vancouver [who are a) extremly well balanced; b) the best team of 2002] but Hasek has failed to make the big saves which he has throughout his career, up until the last 10 games.

On to Montreal-Boston, the Habs have just added Koivu and Audette to their lineup.  Two guys they were without virtually all season.  When you factor in how close everything is, if those two had been with the team all year, and even altered just 5 of their losses into wins, then they would be up at 97 pts, just 4 shy of the Bruins.

I find the most interesting thing to be the fact that the two lowest scoring teams to make the playoffs in the West (LA-Col)  have combined to score 15 goals in 2 games.  Then again, the Avs were missing the best player in the game for the entire season.

It's no surprise the Canucks are leading Detroit 2-0 in the series, they have been the number one team since Christmas.

And it's no surprise that the Red Wings will end the series tonight.
