Spider-man

I am. I'm going to enjoy it. I'm not gonna over analyze it. I'm just gonna sit down, eat popcorn and enjoy.

The Goblin Costume? Eh. It's better than the comic version. And it serves a purpose. Where as the comic suit looks like a bad halloween costume, the movie suit acts as a flight suit. At least that's what they're feeding me.

You bet I'm going to go see it! Spider-man was my hero (oh well, after James Bond) while growing up. I'm really envious of you guys in the US since you get the film a month a half ahead of Sweden .

Im gonna see it. I wouldnt go so far as to say the Goblin suit is better than the comic version, but it's better for a movie. The comic version was fine for comics, but itd probably come off kinda hokey on film. Im not saying this in a bad way, but even Spider-man's costume is a bit corny, but the red and blues are such an icon that we dont think of it that way.

The secret wars/Venom spidey costume kciked mucho ass. I will piss myself if they put Venom and/or Carnage in the next movie.

I'm gonna see it.

Like Arkham said, the costume will look corny in the movie if they used the comic book version, but then again, Spider-man runs around in blue and red pajamas.

I'm a huge Spider-Man fan.. don't get me wrong, but I think I'm going to skip out on the movie.

I'm saving up money for video games, and I don't wanna shell out 7.25 to see it... maybe if someone takes me or something like that.

Plus, a couple of weeks after S-M comes out... SW: EP. 2: AotC will be before me.

I wouldnt pay for them if I wouldnt have to. How dont you pay for them?

Yeah... how DON'T you pay for them?  I certainly don't steal them (I couldn't anyways... they are always in cases and such) and they aren't any GC emulators so I can download them, so that means I that have to pay for mine.

I would love to hear how you don't pay for yours...

Venom should be in the 4th film or so. Carnage would need an R rating because he is so violent.

Carnage is one of my favorite villians of all time. I really do hope they make a GOOD (as in not one of those cobbled together sequels at the last moment for cash type things) movie with him in it. I mean c'mon, a psychotic serial killer with amazing powers that came from his former cell mate's symbiote, is just too cool! :D Besides, the tendrils always going around him are sweet :D lol

The studio would never be willing to do Carnage justice.  I would rather not see him, then see him dumbed down.

Oh, you guys are talking about console games. I hardly ever play consoles, but PC games are easy to get for free off IRC and newsgroups.

As for consoles, just rent the games and end them, 99% of them aren't worth buying. Especially GameCube, which has the shittiest game selection I have seen in ages. Unless you like having 40 games, where 25 of them are sports titles. Whee!

I'm going to see the film, although I don't really have high hopes for it.  Everyone I know seems to think that this film will be fantastic based upon the trailers....personally, I had high hopes for the film UNTIL I saw the trailers.  Maybe it's just me, but from what I've seen in the previews, the movie looks kinda hokey.  I don't want that.  I'm not expecting it to be Tim Burton dark, but I would like it to be more "mature" like X-Men with a minimum of camp.

Oh, and the Goblin costume?  Totally gay.  I mean, yeah, it probably would work more so than the comic version, but still - gay.

Um...but most of Spiderman isn't meant to be "mature material". I can't judge the entire Spiderman universe because i'm not a comic book reader. But i've watched and enjoyed all the cartoons and most of it isn't dark and doesn't call for treating it as a "mature" movie. Since i don't know the comics i'm basing this all on the cartoons. However since most people seemed to like the mid 90's cartoon of it and i can't recall much of a backlash towards it with people screaming that it was a total abortion that spit on Spiderman's history...well i assume it was pretty close to the comics.

Spidey always had that "immature wisecracking punk kid" feel to it which made it lighter fare then stuff like Batman. Comics that have a "brooding troubled soul" feel to them like Batman and Spawn are the ones that need "mature" movies. Spiderman wisecracks on everything and isn't a dark deadly serious character so why would he be given a "mature" movie.

The whole Spidey, Venom and Carnage stories have a dark edge to them. But unless they are using that story there is no reason to make Spiderman a "mature" movie

Guest What?!

Just wondering, but why is Macho Man going around saying his role will do to him what Rocky III did to Hogan? What exactly is Savage playing?

I'm mixed on whether to go or not. I like Spidey as much as the next guy, but the ads and trailer just aren't making me feel it at the moment.

I will definitely see it several times. In fact, I'll make it my personal mission to see it as many times as possible for it to crack the Top Ten Highest grossing Movies of all time. That's my commitment.

And after that I'll watch Episode II until it overtakes Titanic. Yeah!

Savage is playing "Bone Saw" McGraw, a wrestler whom Peter Parker faces to earn some money and test his powers early on. In the comic the character was named "Crusher" Hogan. Not sure what Savage means with that statement, though.

Eh. After repeat viewings of Ep. 1, I'm just not that excited about AotC. Lucas seems, once again, too focused on the effects. The only things that'll make me go see it are Ewan McGregor (who basically owns the Obi-wan role at this point) and the Jango Fett character. The guy cast as Anakin looks like he's literally forcing out his lines in the trailer. Ugh.

Then just wait and see what people say about it.  Its what I do when I am not sure about a film.  If everyone trashes it then you made the right decision.  If it is a good movie, then you can always see it later.

I'm going to go watch the movie. I would go see it regardless of other people's opinions about the movie. It's one of those movies that you just have to see. It looks like it will be a good one too.

The cartoons weren't dark because they were aimed at a younger audience.

Yes, Spider-Man isn't as serious a character as Batman, but he often deals with things of a similar nature, giving a lot of the stories a "mature" feel.  In fact, seems most superhero books are targeted at an older audience nowadays.  I mean, for the most part, they're still things a lot of parents would let their kids pick up ... but they may not appreciate 'em as much as they would if they were older.

If you're the least bit interested in giving comic books a shot, you should drop by a shop soon. "Free Comic Day" is gonna be happening at shops around the nation on what I believe is the same day the Spider-Man movie opens.

Kingpin probably won't be featured in any of the Spider-Man sequels, as he's slated to be the central villain in the upcoming Daredevil film.  Gonna be played by Michael Clarke Duncan.

Free Comic Day?

So they just give away a shitload of comics all on one day?

Green Goblin most definitely is a good choice for the first movie's villain. He was Spider-man's first true enemy in the comics, and the one who hung around the longest (albeit in different incarnations).

From what little I've seen of the trailers, it seems they've picked one of the most serious early stories (old-timers will know what I talk about when I say "Gwen Stacy"). I just pray thay've got the balls to avoid re-writing it...

I really don't know what playing "Thunderlips" in Rocky 3 did for Hogan, but whatever it was, I'm sure that's what Savage was talking about.

If they transcript directly from the series, however, we'll see Spidey leapfrog Savage, lift him up on his shoulder and climb up a support beam to the roof, where Savage will submit due to a fear of heights...

That's right. You might want to check the Comics Forum for more info.

I agree with you, Eric. The Goblin is a perfect choice for the first film, and I do think it's loosely based on the Gwen Stacy story. For the second one I think Doc Ock would be really cool, with a cameo by Eddie Brock (Venom for all you non-comic-book types) at the end to set up the third film. As for Savage, I would love it if Spidey slammed him on the mat so hard that it breaks.

They really have to have Doc Oc in the sequel. I can understand having the Green Goblin in the first one, because he is more recognized, but Doc Oc is a more important villian/character in the comic that GG.

Who do you think would be a good actor to play Doc Oc?

Geoffrey Rush would be good as Doc Oc. When I saw him in Mystery Men, with the accent and everything, thats actually what it made me think of.

They probably wouldnt use Doc Ocs traditional look from the comics, cause it would, again, look ridiculous, but if they did, hed have to put on some weight
