PWG Presents ''44 Ways To Kill You With A Pimento'

New PWG press release:

By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer

Hetch Hetchy Junction, CA - So it was Free Cone Day (and Voter Registration Day) at Ben & Jerry''s today, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla''s (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) own Silverback was there to get his. While the line wasn''t too long, it did stretch a bit down the block, and during the waiting process, a Frenchman came by on a bike and says to no one in particular "Waat ees zees line for?" Not getting a response, the Frenchman repeated the question, and someone in the line says "Free ice cream," to which Pierre replies "OH! Even zee sorbet?!" With that being said, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is proud to announce "44 Ways To Kill You With A Pimento" at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge on Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 8:00PM!

Returning from his suspension by PWG Commissioner Paul T., and a Las Vegas vacation thanks to the great folks at Southwest Airlines, PWG Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce is rested, relaxed, and completely prepared to defend the PWG Title. As champion, Adam Pearce is allowed to make certain demands of PWG and Commissioner Paul T., but defending the title in a "Lay-Z-Boy Recliner Deathmatch," was instantly shot down, not because of the ridiculousness of the match, but because the cost of all those recliners was astronomical. Commissioner Paul T instead suggested a traditional title defense against "the King Of Bling-Bling" Babi Slymm, since they seemed so eager to go after one another in March. Slymm, as angry as ever, quickly accepted the shot at the title, and Pearce''s response of "whatever" was taken as acceptance, and the match was signed! In a display of Audio-Visual wonderment, fans can also expect to see:

Hardkore Kidd vs. "The Future" Frankie Kazarian

X-Foundation (Scott Lost & Joey Ryan) vs. Ballard Brothers (Shane & Shannon Ballard)

"Shooting Star" Bobby Quance vs. Ricky Reyes

PWG Tag Team Championship Match

S.B.S. (Excalibur & Super Dragon) © vs. Josh Prohibition & MDogg20

PWG Championship Match

"Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce © vs. Babi Slymm

Plus Scorpio Sky, B-Boy, Disco Machine, "Tornado" Tony Kozina, Pinoy Boy, Quicksilver, "Photogenic" Chris Bosh, Charles Mercury, & Top Gun Talwar are all scheduled to appear!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla "44 Ways To Kill You With A Pimento" takes place Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge, at 8:00PM. The Santa Ana Elks Lodge is located at 212 S. Elk Lane, Santa Ana, CA 92701. Tickets are only $15 each, and will be available at the door. For more information, please visit http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com or email [email protected].

Boo. What happened to the super long press releases hyping every individual match? Those were pure comedy genius.

On paper, this is probably PWG's weakest card EVER, but Reyes/Quance should be really good and the SBS/Backyard Express match should be lots of fun. Plus, they've been teasing a Joey Ryan/Scott Lost split, so a hot angle could go down on this show too. They should put B-Boy against Scorpio Sky to continue Sky's push- a clean win over the New Age Punisher would do wonders for him.

Well, compared to other PWG cards this one may appear to be somewhat lacking on paper, but really it should be just the opposite.

Here's short thoughts (I'll do a longer and more boring write up later)

SBS Vs. M-Dogg/Josh: Could be as fun of a match as you are likely to see anywhere. SD/Excalibur are always thrilling as a tag team and they should mix well with M-Dogg/Josh.

Ricky Reyes Vs. Quance: Best match on the card thus far, and as with Reyes' last 2 PWG singles matches this one will be the show stealer.

Frankie Kazarian Vs. Hardkore Kidd: There GSCW match last year was the best Hardkore Kidd match I've ever seen... so Frankie's the just the man to get a real good match out of Hardkore.

Adam Pearce Vs. Slymm: This should 58 different kinds of fun as are most of Pearce's matches. Be interesting to see where they go with this PWG title angle.

X-Foundation Vs. Ballards: Though I haven't seen it myself. I've heard that these teams had an excellent match in UPW a few months ago, so I don't see why this one will be any different. Plus this could be the match where the X-Foundation finally split up.. which will lead to great things for both Ryan and Lost IMO. Heel Scott Lost will be money...

And heck who knows what they will do with the AXP, B-Boy, Puma, Kozina, Disco and whomever else they throw in.

Overall it should be a very very good show, I really wish more feds would book "weak" cards like this one. ;)

I bet if this card was stacked with ROH Fly Ins people would be all over this show.

Either way, I can't wait to see this show.

By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer

Lost City, California - If Professional Wrestling were stand up comedy, and two short Japanese men were four large black comedians, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla''s (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) newly released "88 Miles Per Hour" DVD would strongly resemble 2000''s "The Original Kings of Comedy!" While not directed by Spike Lee, "88 Miles Per Hour" does feature the first American singles encounter between Japanese Wrestling Superstars Kuishinbo Kamen (D.L. Hughley & Steve Harvey) and Ebessan (Bernie Mac & Cedric The Entertainer, because, you know, they''re fat, like Ebessan!) Also included is the gigantic 10-men tag team match featuring X-Foundation, S.B.S., the Aerial Express, and more!

The "88 Miles Per Hour" DVD Features: All 7 matches complete and uncut, commentary by S.B.S. (Disco Machine & Excalibur) with help from TARO, backstage interviews, and more! Ok, since the show is weekend.... I just thought I'd kill some time and give my thoughts & Predictions on the upcoming show! Sound like fun? (don't answer that)

Havana Pitbull Ricky Reyes Vs. Bobby Quance

Thoughts:

No doubt one of the best things to happen in SoCal indy wrestling besides PWG is the Inoki Dojo. I don't know what it is exactly but nearly everyone involved with the Dojo is an amazing wrestler. Recently in just PWG alone we've seen a Dojo worker American Dragon Vs. Bobby Quance steal "Taste the Radness" Some would say AD Vs. Brad Bradley stole the March 7th card, Ricky Reyes Vs. PUMA steal the March 27th PWG show, Reyes Vs. Apollo Kahn, American Dragon Vs. Samoa Joe both steal the April PWG show. Heck you could argue that a Dojo member has had the match of the show at every PWG show since November.

So at this months PWG show, we get even more Inoki Dojo goodness in the form of Ricky Reyes Vs. Bobby Quance. Will this one be another show stealer? I think it will.

Prediction: Ricky Reyes, giving him momentum for a possible match with American Dragon next show.

S.B.S. (Super Dragon and Excalibur) Vs. M-Dogg 20 and Josh Prohibition

Thoughts:

While I do think Reyes Vs. Quance will be the best match on the card, I must say I think this one will be the most memorable. I've never seen SD/Excalibur have a tag match together that wasn't amazing. And considering that they will be facing arguably one of the best spot teams going in M-Dogg 20/Josh Prohibtion. This match has just an insane amount of potental and IMO may just be the best match of it's kind in years.

Prediction: SBS retain the belts (making them the first team to ever do so)

"The Future" Frankie Kazarian Vs. Hardkore Kidd

Thoughts: The best Hardkore Kidd singles match I can remember (aside from maybe his Inoki Dojo match with Samoa Joe) was against Frankie Kazarian at the 3/29/03 GSCW show. So I have high hopes that this match will be even better than that one. So I'm picking this match as my sleeper match of the show just because I feel it's being overlooked.

Prediction: Hardkore Kidd (because I'm not sure where Frankie stands in this whole NWA-TNA mess)

"Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce Vs. Big Babi Slymm

Thoughts: This should be a very fun match, Pearce is just a true heel master and Babi Slymm is pretty solid in there as well so they should tell a great story in there. But I think the real deciding factor in this one isn't just the wrestlers, it's the crowd. If the crowd is super hot for this one it make the match off the charts fun. So hopefully the crowd is hot, Adam Pearce is in classic heel form and maybe Babi Slymm will bring his posse (Ala his match with Super Dragon at RevPro's "One Step Beyond") to help push his one over the edge and make it one to remember.

Prediction: Pearce retains the title.

X-Foundation Vs. The Ballard Brothers

Thoughts: Another match that I think will surprise alot of people. These teams reportedly had an excellent match in UPW a few months ago, so I don't see why this one would be any different. Also it'll be interesting to see where they go with the X-Foundation dissension angle. Maybe this will be the match where it all comes to a head?

Prediction: Ballards get another lucky win after the X-Foundation have a falling out.

Plus set to appear are B-Boy, Scorpio Sky, Quicksilver, PUMA, Disco Machine, Chris Bosh, Top Gun Talwar, Charles Mercury and Tony Kozina.

But keep in mind you never know what else PWG has up there sleeves! In the past they've surprised us with appearances by CM Punk, Teddy Hart and others. SO anything's possible here.....

SO if you happen to be in the SoCal area... attend this show!!! if not in the area, then support the cause by buying one of their amazingly delightfully fantastic DVD releases at http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/merch/

SO what do you think sirs? Anyone else have any thoughts on this card? Anyone disagree with my predictions? Anyone have change for $50? (preferably 4 tens and 2 fives but 4 tens and 10 ones would work)

Thanks for reading (or at least quickly glancing through it)

Results from this show from SoCalUncensored.com :

PWG

Elks Lodge

Santa Ana, CA

Attendance: 125

Supa Badd, Human Tornado, & Disco Machine over Topgun Talwar, Charles Mercury, & Chris Bosh [14'59]

Puma (Pinoy Boy) over Tony Kozina [9'14]

Frankie Kazarian over Hardkore Kidd [14'03]

Ricky Reyes over Bobby Quance [9'16]

Super Dragon & Excalibur over M Dogg & Josh Prohibition to retain the PWG Tag Titles [19'04]

B-Boy over Scorpio Sky [15'17]

Joey Ryan & Scott Lost over The Ballards [13'09]

Babi Slymm over Adam Pearce by DQ [17'43] "

Now here's some of my thoughts on the show:

6-man opener was a very good comedy match, and a great way to start off the show. Team Disco wins after Supa Badd chokeslams Mercury on Disco's knee. Afterwards "Disco Jesus" Disco Machine takes Top Gun, Bosh and Mercury under this wing. I wonder where this one is going?

Kozina Vs. PUMA was a good fast paced match almost lucha style at times. PUMA wins after a tiger suplex.

Then Adam Pearce/HKK come out for a promo. Which was just classic... Pearce just ripped up everyone who yelled something at him.

Kazarian Vs. Hardkore Kid was loads of fun, alot better than most would think it would be. Sick spot where HKK concrete crashs Kazarian from the top rope. And even after loads of interfearance from El Jeffe and Pearce, Frankie rolls up the HKK for the win.

Ricky Reyes Vs. Bobby Quance was very good but maybe not as good as it could have been as it was way too short. Reyes wins after a Fisherman's buster. Afterwards PUMA breaks up a brawl between the two... and then superkicks Bobby Quance.

Tag Title Match was pretty wild. It wasn't the all out spot fest I thought it would be, but it was still a very exciting match. Sick moment toward the end where M-Dogg goes for a Standing Dragonrana on SD in the corner but ends up flipping over him and landing balls first on the ringpost! Ouch indeed! As Gorilla Monsoon would have said.. "That will give you a negative attitude" Finish came when Excalibur spiked the newly soprano M-Dogg 20 with the dreaded Tiger Driver 98

B-Boy Vs. Scorpio Sky was my MOTN, Great back and forth action. That saw Sky kick out of the Shining Wizard. The finish came after B-Boy hit a Folded up Tombstone (think Chris Hero's piledriver.. as a tombstone)

X-Foundation Vs. Ballards was pretty damn good. Finish came after Lost hit his vertabreaker 2 on one of the Ballards. Due to a prematch stip the Ballards are now gone from PWG and the X-Foundation get a title shot at SBS next show.

Adam Pearce Vs. Babi Slymm was great oldschool fun. Pearce is just a freaking god in there. The match also saw the return of Pearce's former manager Mr. Vander Pyle who turned on Pearce and sided with Slymm.

Overall it's was a hell of a great time. Not a bad match on the card, it'd be well worth picking up on DVD when it comes out.

PWG's next show is set for June 19th with the following set to appear:

Spanky, CM Punk, Samoa Joe (I thought he was booked for USAPRO on the 19th?) Thomsaselli Brothers, Adam Pearce, Ricky Reyes, Bobby Quance, PUMA, S.B.S., Scott Lost, Joey Ryan and all the PWG regulars set to appear. Don't miss that one...

Sounds like a fun show. Reyes/Quance sounds a bit too short, but it should be fun to watch. Everything looks good -> solid. I'll be getting this.
