Making an Old School RnB/Soul/Rap/Funk CD

Recommended Posts

I am doing a two disc old school CD, track listing will come later, so far I have these songs. Anything from 1965 to 1989 is my area I am looking at. I am trying to do one song per artist, except Michael and Prince who I gave two to.

RnB/Rap/Soul/Disco/Funk:

Prince - Alaphabet St

Michael - PYT

Stevie Wonder - As

Al Green - Lets Stay Together

Earth Wind & Fire - Shining Star

Luther - Never Too Much

Teena Marie - I Need Your Lovin'

New Edition - If It isn't Love

Jacksons - Shake Your Body Down To The Ground

Bobby Brown - Every Little Step I Take

Parliament - Tear The Roof Off The Sucker (Give Up The Funk)

Gap Band - You Drop The Bomb On Me

Marvin Gaye - Got To Get It Up

Run DMC - Rock Box

LL Cool J - Rock The Bells

Kurtis Blow - The Breaks

Beastie Boys - Paul Revere

Grandmaster Flash And the Furious Five - The Message

Public Emeny - PE#1

Junior - Momma Used to Say

Cameo - Candy

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back

Rick James, Bitch - Mary Jane

Mary Jane Girls - All Night Long

Shalamar - Night To Remember

James Brown - Get Up

The Whispers - And The Beat Goes On

Rene & Angela - I'll Be Good

Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal

Prince - When Doves Cry

Slick RIck - Lodi Dodi

I need like 8 more tracks and more rap since it seems to be few and far between.

The Message for one and "Gigilos need love too" by the Time. You better not have fucking Shalamar on that goddamned CD and not have Morris fucking Day and the Time.

Oh and Prince, sexy mutha FuAAAAIIIEEEEAAAAHHH, and something by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Perferably one with Full Force(bow legged lou = CLASSIC CD)

I would also recommend Sam Cooke- Change Gone Come or Otis Redding - Lovers Prayer to slow it down alittle.

If you'd care to put any freestyle in there, since it has all the elements your looking for (more or less), I'd suggest TKA's "Louder Than Love", The Cover Girls "Show Me", and Stevie B.'s "Spring Love".

You DEFINITELY need some KRS-One and/or Boogie Down Productions. I'd go with "My Philosophy."

Also, some Sly & the Family Stone wouldn't hurt. Perhaps "Underdog" or "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey."

And of course, "Candy Girl" by NEW EDITION~!

Of those listed, here is what I took:

Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam - "Wonder I I take You Home"

Morris Day & The Motherfucking TIME - Jungle Love

BDP - Bridge is Over

MC Shan - The Bridge

Whodini - Freaks Come Out at Night

New Edition - Candy Girl

Janet - Pleasure Princple

NWA - Straight Out of Compton

I am trying to keep it one song per artist. NE(my favorite group growing up), MIchael Jackson, and Prince are the exception to the rule.

"My Philosophy" would definitely go well with your play list. It has a really cool soul sounding beat.
