Guest Report post Posted April 22, 2002 The Ecstasy of Gold - N/A - I aint rating it as it aint a Metallica song but it is quite good. The Call of the Ktulu - 9.5/10 - GREAT ! What a way to come on stage. Master of Puppets - 10/10 - Is it just me, or are Metallica being pushed into playing better. The orchestra has done nothing but help so far. Fast as hell and the solos. This is the first time I have heard this WHOLE song live and they did it well. Of Wolf and Man - 7/10 - What's with the horror movie music. A fair song but not a good way to go down after such an amazing song. The Thing That Should Not Be - 8/10 - Pink Panther music to open this one. It is a good song but I think that the orchestra dragged this one down a bit. Fuel - 8.5/10 - Getting better each time. I thought this was MUCH better than the studio version. The Memory Remains - 8/10 - A good version of a bad song. Hetfield's voice is better now than ever before. No Leaf Clover - 9.5/10 - The REALLY bad chorus makes this not perfect. The song is fabulous and Hammett is amazing on the Lead Guitar. Hero of the Day - 10/10 - Oh my god. That was truly wonderful. I will never forget listening to that. This has kicked so much ass. I loved that. Devil's Dance - 8/10 - The good version of bad song thing continues with a great version of the Reload song. Bleeding Me - 9/10 - This was GREAT ! It cant be rated 10 because I just dont think it was a 10. Nothing Else Matters - 10/10 - It was a beautiful version of the song but the original was off the scale meaning this was not as good. Untill It Sleeps - 9/10 - Good song from the guys again. For Whom the Bell Tolls - 10/10 - GREAT ! GREAT ! WHOA, how am I supposed to rate this album now. After Hero of the Day and Nothing Else Matters, this could be the best Metallica album yet. Minus Human - 8/10 - Not amazing but new stuff never is from Metallica nowadays. Wherever I May Roam - 9.5/10 - 0.5 taken away because its worse than the original which just gets a 10/10. Great song anyway but the orchestra did not help matters any. Outlaw Torn - 10/10 - This was slow and heavy, which is how I like it. The whole thing seemed to drag in but it seemed less than 10 minutes. Always a good sign. Sad But True - 10/10 - This is amazing. Again, MUCH better than the original. One - BOOM ! - Off the charts. It has been waiting to happen for quite some time. The Symphony blended in well and this song was actually MUCH faster than the original and much better. Enter Sandman - 9/10 - A very weird version of a REALLY good song. We all know it but I dont think the Symphony did this song any justice what so ever. Battery - BOOM ! - I have actually given this song a 7/10 somewhere else from the original album but this was unreal. The intro was cool and then the speed picked up and then the ending picked up the pace in the most incredible way. Overall This album is EASILY ahead of Iron Maiden - Rock in Rio as my favourite live album. The orchestra played a key part in most of the songs but dragged down a few. It was amazing from start to finish and no BAD songs on it. I would say that this is Metallica's best album which says a lot because they aint had a bad album yet. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 22, 2002 not to burst your bubble hear, but S&M really sucked donkey balls. There is only 8 songs that are tolerable on that whole CD. Call of the Ktulu Hero of the Day Bleeding Me No Leaf Clover Nothing Else Matters For Whom the Bell Tolls Until It Sleeps. -Human Master of Puppets, One, Battery, Enter Sandman, Feul, Outlaw Torn, Devils Dance, Sad But True were all pathetically done. Who ever edited that CD must be shot.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 22, 2002 The CD sucked shit. I watched one of the S&M concerts on tv and it sounded great but the cd was horrible.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted April 22, 2002 I'm with Olympic_Hero on this one. I haven't listened to the CD in a while, but speaking as someone who doesn't really like Metallica, S&M is a pretty good CD, the band and the symphony mesh well together, much better than I thought they would. I never saw any of the concerts on TV or anything so I can't compare.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted April 22, 2002 I ca appreciate the symphony. I can appreciate Metallica BUT the two do not go hand in hand. Who the hell do they think they are, Emerson, Lake and Palmer? Sometimes it's better to limit your horizons so you don't put out a piece of shit like S&M! Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted April 25, 2002 It's a really great album that temporarily renewed my faith in Metallica live and I enjoy a LOT of the songs on it... But some songs were either out of place or just performed really badly. "Enter Sandman" and "Sad But True" should have just been left at home. Hetfield didn't even sound like he was trying with "Nothing Else Matters", though the orchestra was lush. "-Human" was an...interesting experiment. "Outlaw Torn" was excruciatingly long and it just didn't click. I think the thing is that Metallica and Michael Kamen had some definite songs in mind when they were chatting over the idea for S&M ("No Leaf Clover", "Hero of the Day", "One", and "Battery" had much more detail in their arrangements) and then they just kind of haphazardly filled in the rest of the tracks to flesh out the concert. There are some surprises, like most of the first CD, but I really think they could have grabbed all of the good tracks together into one performance and then they would have had a really killer album. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted April 25, 2002 I would love to hear Fade to Black, Unforgiven I and II on it. Really there was no solo's or anything. Kirk Hammett didn't go on a solo after a song, Newsted didn't really throw anything extra on. Kinda disappointed

Guest mesepher Report post Posted April 30, 2002 it had a few songs I really liked... but a lot of the stuff sounded awful! Enter Sandman was a real joke, I thought. Ktulu rocked the house though.
