Guest gearhead Report post Posted May 14, 2004 Italy's going to win this!. The favourites are the French, and they're a good bet, especially with the form Henry's been on this season, but the Italians are playing some great football, on club level, and as we know, when they play together, they usually have a great bond. The team they have now is one of their best in the past few decades, with Buffon (one of the best 'keepers playing) in goal, and Toldo clipping on his heels for the No.1 spot. Then there's Cannavaro & Nesta, who have come back into their own after a poor spell. Zanetti has been doing great for Inter, along with Christian Vieri, who is still an amazing player. Add to that guys like Del Piero, Totti and Inzaghi, and its going to be hard for any team to knock out the Italians at Euro2004. My favourites are the Germans, since no one likes them (I like the heels!), but I have a gut feeling that its gonna be an Italian Job.
Guest wayzing Report post Posted May 14, 2004 Well, it helps that they have a strong keeper for once They should be able to handle Sweden and Denmark but they have a history of being shaky early in the tournaments. But I guess it's safe to assume that they'll advance. However I don't agree that their clubs have being doing unusually well this year so I wouldn't put them higher than "strong dark horse". I think they've belonged there ever since their own World Cup in 1990 where you could argue that they were favourites. The finalist from the C / D groups will reach final without meeting France, England, Spain and Portugal so you could argue that Italy are in good position to reach the final but naaah. I don't think they wil. I'd rate the teams like this when it comes to who's winning the cup (as opposed to who's the best team). 1. France 2. England (if Sven-Göran Eriksson can overcome their habit of choking sooner or later). 3. Spain Dark Horses: Italy, Portugal, Netherlands Germany are as good as some of the teams there but I'm positive they're not winning. Being Swedish I'd like to put Sweden in the Dark Horse group but it wouldn't really make sense I'm afraid.

I think you should qualify for the Quarter Finals, you seem to have more attacking options than Denmark and if Kallstrom and Larsson are on form you might even get to the Semi Finals. Yeah, you're right. That doesn't seem impossible with a little luck. We're on par with any team in the C and D groups. All the big guns are on the top half. The Sweden-Denmark game will probably decide who advances and who goes home. Sweden vs. Denmark is a crazy unpredictable game in any sport but we should have the edge. I worry more about our own coaches than Denmark actually. They are way too defense minded considering the amount of talent we have on top (for once).
