Guest drdrainoscott Posted May 15, 2004 Report Posted May 15, 2004 This happens to me a lot for some reason. Sometimes when I try to play a tape I have recieved in a trade in my VCRs, the VCR will just spit it right back out when I try to play it. It doesn't happen to any tapes that I have made (even though some weren't recorded on that VCR) and I would say it happens to about 25% of all the tapes I have recieved. Most of the tape, I have to keep trying and trying until finally the VCR will play it, but sometimes they will never play. Why does this happen?
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted May 15, 2004 Report Posted May 15, 2004 That is weird. When I thread title, I was going to tell you to check that a video wasn't in there already or tell you to be more gentle when inserting tapes. Try the rejected tapes on other players. If they do it too, then it would seem like there's nothing wrong with your player. If they don't, then your player may have a problem, but that may just be that the tapes and your player don't like eachother. If the tapes play after a while, then that's just a stubbornness thing - but it still can't be good for the player. Or the tape.
Guest theoldxpac Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Do the tapes still have the tabs on them?
Guest momoracci Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Are you sure you aren't accidentally hitting "Record" instead of "Play"? If the tape has the protected tab removed, hitting Rec will cause the tape to spit out like that...
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Sometimes this happens to me, but not because of a shitty VCR. Make sure you put the tape in evenly, and with enough force that you're not trying to destroy it, because sometimes it will get jammed a bit, and automatically eject itself incase.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 It has nothing to do with recording. The tapes never even get into the machine, they just are spit out as soon as I push them in.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Sounds like a VCR problem to me. I say try it on another VCR, if it works then you need new equipment. Otherwise, it's a tape problem. Maybe its a PAL tape you are trying to play?
Guest theoldxpac Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Im pretty sure it has nothing to do with being PAL. If it was PAL and he didnt have PAL playback, then the tape would play, but there would be no picture. For some reason one of my VCRs wont accept tapes missing the tab while the machine is switched off.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 No it has nothing to do with PAL, as first of all, I am trading with people in the US, and second, after repeated tries, I can usually get the tapes to be accepted. And no, it isn't just one VCR and they are both high quality. The only thing that I can think of is that all of my VCRs have SVHS capability, so maybe that has something to do with it.
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 This happened to me. I had a panasonic. It started not accepting any tapes other than Sony tapes. After a year of this, it didn't accept anything and I got a new one. It was the weirdest thing ever. It's almost as if they don't fit.
