software to make those pictures that are made of..

you know the ones, like the first poster for "The Truman Show" that his face was made with hundreds/thousands of smaller pics.

 

I was wondering if there's any software that automatically does that?

That style of picture is called a "Mosaic". I saw one posted on another forum, and they said:

 

There are a few mosaic programs on the market. I made the base of that one with a really cheap shareware one that wouldn't let me save in a high enough resolution and then did a few hours of clean up and color adjustment in photoshop. I was very thankful for photoshops ability to take a set of actions and automate them for turning those images into 40x40 squares.

 

It came out really well though - Clicksy
