The Fallout from HUSTLE 3

Mutoh has now forfeited his Triple Crown match in June, I think that's a sign that Goldberg was supposed to win the belts and then go over Mutoh.

I'm hoping that Mutoh pulls the trigger on Kawada vs Sasaki III, which is an easy sellout, and AJPW hasn't really gotten many of those lately, even with the smaller arenas.

Ugh. I hate even thinking about this. I am SOOOO glad that it worked out the way it did.

Well, obviously they need to do something/anything to boost the company the best way they can and I could see this helping. But honestly they are avoiding the inevitable........having Jamal main event.[/sarcasm] Actually, they really need to get the Triple Crown on Kojima considering they have waited long enough to do it.

It just keeps getting better, as Mutoh has named JAMAL as the replacement challenger for Kawada. It does make sense, as he's been built up as the top gaijin and all, but the match is going to blow, and there are plenty of other guys who'd do so much better in this match.

Also on the same show, Nagata/Ka Shin vs Kojima/Hayashi for the AJPW World Tag Titles, and Sasaki/Nakajiima vs Tenryu/Fuchi for the All Asia Tag Titles (personally looking forward to this one. The grumpy vets will destory the 16 year old).

The scarey thing about this whole thing is I don't even know if it's assured that Kawada will retain the Triple Crown over Jamal.

But it pisses me off that Mutoh is only willing to put over foreign wrestlers like Goldberg who only wrestles a match here and there.

I think its a safe bet to say Kawada will retain, since Jamal's title shot was a backup plan. Its still pretty sad that Jamal even gets to challenge for the Triple Crown though.

Goldberg, on the other hand would have been a big draw, so I wasn't as against Goldberg getting the belts. Goldberg defending them would have packed the houses. Jamal on the other hand, hasn't drawn a dime for AJPW. The house for this show (6/12 is the date) is going to be based around the appearences by Nagata, and Sasaki.

I would hope that Kawada will retain, otherwise I seriously give up totally on AJPW AND Mutoh(like I haven't given up on him already though).

Goldberg(as much as I don't want to admit it) would have packed them in going against Kawada, but JAMAL?!?!!! I know Mutoh is big on Jamal for whatever reason, but this is a little much. It isn't the main focus of the show either, which makes me thing then "Why is this even happening?" This is a major problem with wrestling in Japan right now, considering instead of doing the necessessary things for their "company guys" they are always pushing for the outsiders(american pro wrestlers, MMA Stars, etc.) to come in and put them in positions that "their" guys should be in. The show being around Nagata/Sasaki is understandable, but when shows aren't built around the TC, then it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth as far as the titles are concerned.

Where is the consensus that Goldy would "pack them in" coming from? Those two shows he did for AJPW in 2002? Even if you roll out those numbers, it's hard to use that to justify saying "he would have drawn with the Triple Crown."

It's not as if Goldberg has done much to earn himself the shot, either. He got two singles wins in 2002, one over Kojima and one over Kea, neither of whom were that high on the pecking order at the time. Jamal, on the other hand, just got a singles win over Mutoh, who just won the Championship Carnival, has held the TC twice and is the biggest star in the company. In a kayfabe sense, Jamal deserves the shot more.

I'm basing my assumption on Goldberg being able to pack the house, on the fact that he was a big name in the US, and for some reason the Japanese fans really take to the big name US wrestlers.

I've actually got both the shows that Goldberg worked in 2002, but haven't watched them yet. I can tell you that Kea's loss was coming off the heels of his win over Genichiro Tenryu, so he'd been in the middle of a somewhat decent push. Kojima was still riding his NJPW fame, at that time.

Jamal may suck and all... but even if Kawada completely quater-asses it, Jamal/Kawada will be soooo much better than Kawada/Mutoh again.

The problem is that Goldberg isn't that big a name. His WCW run was decades ago (in wrestling years) and his WWE run was full of shitty booking cutting the legs out from under his push. As a result, he was often overshadowed by Trip, Michaels, and Kane.

It's poor logic to assume that Goldberg will draw in AJPW simply because he was a big name US wrestler. If that's true, will the Outsiders become a draw for the Hustle shows?
