Real F'n Show, I wish you the best of luck with your new job. You have my full support.

June 7th, 2004

From Sophie:

Here is my weekly report on our battle with WWE. They have more star power than us, and that is affecting our image. We are seen as having better workers, and this is causing fans to choose us over them.

wZw The Zone- Debut Edition

Mike Tenay and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan welcome us to the first ever WZW The Zone!

WZW Owner Real F’n Show makes his way down to the ring and grabs a mic. He tells the fans that there is finally a good alternative to the WWE, and you’ve found it. He says that tonight, you, the fans, will witness some of the best workers in the world do battle, and he promises that nobody will be fucking any dead bodies in his company! At least not tonight anyway…He also mentions that a tournament for the WZW World Title starts tonight with four first round matches!

Mike: What an announcement! With that, let’s get to our first match, a non-tournament match as Spanky takes on Low Ki and we get a look at the new WZW Cruiserweight division!

Spanky vs Low Ki.

Match Background: None.

The Match: Hard back suplex on Low Ki. Come to think of it, that move had WAY too much power in No Mercy for N64. SUPER frankensteiner on Low Ki, who hit hard and is loopy as a result. Hooks the leg for a two count. Low Ki counters a backdrop attempt with a kick to the face and hit a clothesline! Low Ki hits a HARD spinning kick to the jaw. Fallaway slam by Low Ki puts down Spanky. There's a two count on the pin. Spear! Spanky is down! Cover, ONE...TWO...NO! I honestly thought that match was going to end right then and there. BAAACK Body drop by Spanky gets a bit of a pop from the crowd. Spanky reverses a Low Ki hammerlock. SUPER frankensteiner on Low Ki, who hit hard and is loopy as a result. There's a two count on the pin. DDT from the top rope by Spanky. That looked KILLER. Cover, ONE...TWO...NO! I honestly thought that match was going to end right then and there. Spanky hits a dropkick on Low Ki and gets right back up. Standing leg lariat by Spanky on Low Ki. Low Ki pulls a mule kick out of nowhere. Low Ki snap suplexes Spanky HARD to the canvas! And again! A pair of clotheslines follow and...yep, Low Ki is a HOUSE...EN...FUEGO~! Powerbomb on Spanky. Spanky can barely stand. Ki Krusher! 1....2....3. Spanky extends his hand to Low Ki...and it is accepted! They shake!

My Opinion: Oh, look out...almost ***, but not quite. **3/4.

Overall Rating: 71%

Crowd Reaction: 57%

Match Quality: 85%

Winner: Low Ki

RFS: I was hoping these two would deliver a bit more to kick off the promotion but you take what you get I guess.

Mike: What a way to kick off the first ever edition of The Zone! A great match between two men looking to become major players in the Cruiserweight Divison.

Brain: And these guys respect each other too, unlike some of the guys in the locker room.

Mike: Well, I’m being told we are going to be hearing from Raven momentarily!

Raven does one of his awesome interviews and hypes up WZW. He says tonight Steve Corino is the first of many that will fall to his mercy on the road to the WZW World Title. Quoth the Raven, Nevermore.

Overall Rating: 81%

Mike: Strong words from Raven. Up next, in a first round tournament match, Lance Storm takes on Kanyon!

Lance Storm makes his way to the ring. He’s back to doing his old WCW gimmick I guess. He says that he only signed with this company because of the competition and says he hates American. Boo. He says if he can be serious for a minute, he’d like us all to stand for the Canadian National Anthem. Boo.

OR: 68%

Thank god Kanyon’s here to stop this crap.

Lance Storm vs Chris Kanyon.

Match Background: None.

The Match: Lance Storm kicks the leg, knocks Kanyon down, and goes to work on it. Spin kick by Lance Storm to the face sends the opponent FLYING across the ring. Covers for a quick two count. Lance Storm misses a clothesline. Chris Kanyon with a spinning neckbreaker on Storm. Storm is a glutton for punishment and just continues to take it during this match. Running knee lift from Chris Kanyon. Storm backdrops Chris Kanyon out of a piledriver attempt. That took a lot out of Lance Storm. Flying cross body off the top rope! The referee bumps after catching a wild right hand and is down. Chris Kanyon floors Storm, then signals for the Flatliner. Meanwhile, Lance Storm has something in his hands. Kanyon comes over...and gets nailed with a set of brass knuckles! The referee wakes up to see the pinfall: 1....2....3! It's over.

My Opinion: Well, hello there *1/4 rating, how are you?

OR: 66%

CR: 67%

MQ: 67%

Winner: Lance Storm

RFS: Eh, not what I was expecting from these two but oh well, you learn from mistakes.

Mike: Lance Storm nailed Kanyon with those brass knuckles to pick up the cheap win!

Brain: Hey, give the man a break, he won, didn’t he? Kanyon always asks “Who Betta Than Kanyon?” Well now we know, Lance Storm is better than Kanyon.

Mike: That’s arguable. Well ladies and gentlemen, up next we head right into another tournament match, as Raven meets Steve Corino!

Steve Corino vs Raven.

Match Background: None.

The Match: Raven connects with rights and lefts and Steve Corino is down! Steve Corino charges into the corner, but EATS BOOT and staggers backward. Covers for a quick two count. Corino counters an arm wringer with an elbow to the side of the head. Running knee lift from Steve Corino. STIFF~! chop lights up Raven who covers up to try and stop the agonizing PAIN! Stun Gun from Steve Corino! I still can't believe that was Austin's finisher at one point. Steve Corino gets taken down out of nowhere! Big piledriver on Corino. Raven moves in for the kill. Evenflow DDT! 1....2....3.

My Opinion: A wise man once said 'Can I get a side of bland with that bland'. He's dead now, though. That's what this match was...bland. **

OR: 75%

CR: 76%

MQ: 74%

Winner: Raven

RFS: Basic brawl to get Raven over and send him to the second round of the tourney.

Mike: Raven hits the Evenflow DDT, and picks up the win. He will meet Lance Storm in the second round of the WZW World Title Tournament somewhere down the road.

Brain: Unless Corino gets mad and decides to run Raven over with his car.

Mike: Anyway, I’m being told that “Mean” Gene Okerlund is standing by with Chris Jericho!

Jericho says that he’s here for one reason, and one reason only. And oh no, it sure as hell isn’t the fans. He’s here for the title baby! Because he’s a sexy beast! And tonight, RVD, you will find out once again what it’s like to step into the ring with Y2J!

OR: 93%

Notes: Chris Jericho gained overness from this segment.

Mike: Jericho and Van Dam will main event this evening, and what a match that will be.

Brain: Don’t get carried away Mike, it’s not going to be as close as you think, Jericho says he will beat RVD, and I believe the man.

Mike: Well, we’ll here from Van Dam later on tonight before the big main event. Up next, however, we get our first look at tag team action here in WZW as America’s Most Wanted square off against Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger!

America's Most Wanted vs Swinger and Diamond.

Match Background: None.

The Match: Swinger takes a headbutt from James Storm. BAAACK Body drop by Swinger gets a bit of a pop from the crowd. Spear! Swinger is down! Tag to Simon Diamond. James Storm just WALKS into a stiff lariat clothesline from Diamond. Diamond walks into a drop toe hold. Storm slams Simon Diamond. Tag to Chris Harris. James Storm scoops up Diamond. Wildcat bounces off the ropes and hits a flying Hart Attack clothesline. Nice piledriver on Diamond. Massive lariat! Stan Hansen would approve. Wildcat tags out to James Storm. Simon Diamond is all alone...Death Sentence!! 1....2....3! Swinger and Diamond look like they aren't done...and they attack America's Most Wanted! After an exchange of blows, Storm and Wildcat are laid out in the ring.

My Opinion: I'll give it a *3/4 rating. If you think of it like currency, it's a 1.75. You can't even take the subway with that anymore here. Work harder man.

OR: 68%

CR: 64%

MQ: 73%

Winners: America’s Most Wanted

RFS: I was hoping that these teams would click, and since I’ll be feuding them, lets hope the quality gets better as I go along.

Mike: Diamond and Swinger with a cheap shot after the bell. That’s what you call some sore losers.

Brain: That’s what you call smart. They know that America’s Most Wanted has a shot at becoming the WZW Tag champs, and Simon and Swinger want to make sure that doesn’t happen.

A video is played, hyping Chris Benoit.

OR: 71%

Notes: Chris Benoit lost overness from this segment.

Mike: It should be a good one, folks, Chris Benoit meets Ultimo Dragon in a first round tournament match!

Benoit takes a NICE hurrancarana from Ultimo Dragon. Hooks the leg for a two count. Ultimo Dragon misses a clothesline. Benoit hits a piledriver on Ultimo Dragon. That used to end matches, you know. Covers for a quick two count. Chris Benoit brings out a jumping powerbomb to nearly murder Ultimo in the ring! Pin, but Ultimo is out just before the three count. Ultimo Dragon pulls a mule kick out of nowhere. Ultimo hits a HARD spinning kick to the jaw. Benoit reverses a waistlock. Flying shoulder tackle by Benoit sends Ultimo CRASHING to the mat. Ultimo Dragon gets knocked to the ground by Benoit. Here it comes...Crippler Crossface! Ultimo Dragon taps!

My Opinion: Slightly above average match. Only gets a **3\4 rating from me.

OR: 74%

CR: 64%

MQ: 84%

Winner: Chris Benoit

RFS: This one disappointed me the most. Hopefully the workrate of this show will get better within the next few shows.

Mike: Rob Van Dam is standing by backstage.

RVD is backstage. He says tonight is not Jericho’s night, and HE will become the first ever WZW Champion. We’ll find out NEXT!

OR: 74%

Brain: I still think Jericho’s winning.

Chris Jericho vs Rob Van Dam.

Match Background: None.

The Match: Spinning back kick from Chris Jericho. Bodyslam by Jericho. There's a two count on the pin. RVD blocks a punch. Second rope flying axe handle, Jericho goes down. One day, RVD might even consider coming off the top with that. You know...for more impact and stuff. Rob Van Dam strikes Jericho. Jericho takes a flying neckbreaker from Rob Van Dam. Jericho reverses a Rob Van Dam hammerlock. Super kick by Chris Jericho. Paul Heyman comes running down the aisle with a chair! Jericho and Rob Van Dam continue fighting, unaware of the intrusion. Paul Heyman slides in and blasts Rob Van Dam with a chair to the head! Heyman climbs out of the ring, the damage done! Chris Jericho floors Rob Van Dam. Lion Sault!!! 1....2....3!! It's all over. Chris Jericho shakes hands with Paul Heyman, showing that their plan worked perfectly.

My Opinion: Good bout. In my estimation, it's about ***3/4.

OR: 84%

CR: 86%

MQ: 82%

Winner: Chris Jericho

RFS: That’s more like it. The two clicked and put on a nice main event for the first show. Plus I was able to align Heyman with Jericho right off the bat, which should prove interesting to see how that goes.

Brain: I told you!

Mike: Paul Heyman just ruined a perfectly good match! And it looks like he and Jericho have formed an alliance. What the hell is this all about?

Brain: I guess we won’t know until next week!

Mike: Well, RVD was just screwed out of the WZW Title Tournament by Paul Heyman, who I had no idea was even under contract. Hopefully we will get some answers next week, but I can’t believe Chris Jericho has aligned himself with Paul Heyman. Be sure to join us next Monday night for another edition of The Zone with four matches in the WZW World Title Tournament taking place, plus a lot more. For Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, I’m “Iron” Mike Tenay saying, good night everyone.

Mike: Jarrett used the guitar to get the cheap win!

Brain: If it works, than do it.

Mike: Well up next, we’ll here from Eddie Guerrero!

Eddie is backstage. Looks like he’s in Latino Heat mood as he calls Pamela Paulshock his mamacita. She looks like she wants nothing to do with him, as Eddie continues staring at her body while talking. He says that tonight, it’s a new Eddie Guerrero, and tonight he will move on in the tournament, and at the PPV, he’ll be leaving with the title ese.

My Opinion: These guys worked SO HARD...for a ** rating. Something went wrong somewhere, didn't it?

OR: 64%

Notes: This match suffered because the crowd were still pumped up from the last one, and so this bout was seen as something of a let-down to them. The WZW Cruiserweight title has gained in image.

Winner: Paul London

RFS: Damn not a good way to debut London as my champ, I should have known better than to put that on right after Jarrett/Styles.

Mike: What a match! Paul London becomes the first champion in WZW history, with that shooting star press on Low Ki to become Cruiserweight champion!

Brain: Hell of a match, this kids got a big future ahead of him if he doesn’t kill himself in that ring first.

Mike: I’m being told that Christopher Daniels is backstage awaiting camera time.

Daniels says tonight the world will see the Fallen Angel in action, and will be amazed as he pulls off the big upset and beats Kurt Angle. That’s the gospel according to the Fallen Angel.

OR: 78%

CR: 80%

MQ: 75%

RFS: Meh, decent stuff, especially considering its only a first round match.

Mike: Eddie Guerrero cheats his way to victory over The Truth?

Brain: And you were expecting something else from someone who’s motto is to “Lie, Cheat, and Steal”?

Mike: What a main event, Kurt Angle advances! We have to go folks, but be sure to join us next week for second round matches and a lot more! For Bobby Heenan, I’m “Iron” Mike Tenay, saying good night everyone.

Nice stuff.

Eddie hitting on Pamela Paulshock is pretty funny. Too bad Christopher Daniels is eliminated from the tournament. I say Angle's gonna win, beating Jericho/Heyman in the finals.

I'll be sure to read the next update.
