Since when?

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking

This morning at around 2:30 AM, a friend and I were walking home when the police saw us and made us stop.

It was just a general check-out, with some pocket-emptying, among other things.

Since when do they do/can this?

And I thought that female cop was going to take me in just for staring about 15 centimetres below her head...

I never knew that they could just pull you over for no real reason?

We asked them why they wanted to pull us over, and they said something about breaking-and-enterings around the area lately.

They were also checking out clothing, and asking what that was on the back of my jeans - it was a brand patch. They got down all our details, height, weight, the lot.

What was strange was the fact that they said that was the reason for pulling us over, yet they also said that "No matter who you are, if you're walking around at this time, you will be pulled over." Er... ok.

I guess I can appreciate the fact that they're doing the job, but shit, I wonder if they actually do that every person they see walking about the area at night/early morning?

WR&M, I'm in Australia, and cwm, I guess it doesn't even matter whether it is or not, because if you're a cop, you can do almost anything to a "suspect" and not go down for it.

They're thick like flies up here this weekend, with memorial day and all. Normally I'd complain about police brutality and unreasonable searching, but this is you we're talking about..

Wait aren't you under the age of 18 and isn't there a curfew where you live? If its that late, cops can stop you. I know its happen to me a few times. I got searched once, but that was a complete and utter bullshit reason and its quite long to post, but if you guys want me to, I'll put it up and let you know the bullshit that happen to me. But the break in reasons are a good enough to stop anyone, and the reason why they took your specifics is to match it with someone for a line up since they most likely don't have any idea whose doing it. So if someone sees the I guess burgerler(?) but doesn't see his face, they can do a line up. Its nothing to get to upset, it could have been a lot worse, so don't worry.

My brother goes to IU and they do this all the time. The school is known to be a party school, so if it's late out and you are just walking cops generally do stop you. I think he said in one case that some student did a research paper on this and one night went out and just took a walk and was stopped by 7 cops...he was let go every time.

From what I remember you're about 15/16 so you were out past the legal curfew. So feel lucky they didn't arrest you.

The other day I was questioned for standing next to my car outside my friends house around 9:30. Turns out there were a lot of car robberies, but they didn't give me any trouble. I was just lucky they didn't ask me to pop my trunk, which had a cooler full of alcohol in it.

Rob, they can't look without a warrant or you agreeing. So you can keep an uzi and you have nothing to worry about, unless they have a valid reason like you dumping something that looks like drugs into the car in their face.

consider yourself lucky...had you been a minority, you'd've been dragged downtown and had a large cumbersome object inserted into a place it was never intended to be.

I guess that makes you smarter than anyone who's ever been on Cops, especially when they search the cars for weapons/drugs/etc.

Just because everyone's saying that it's due to a curfew his being stopped, there is no such curfew in Australia. Under 18s are allowed out and about at any time.

Maybe they thought one of you were drug dealers. Thats an actual serious comment. If I was a cop and saw two early-teens walking around in the middle of the night, I'd be a bit suspicious too. Of course, it's Australia and I don't know the laws down there.

Taking that seriously, yeah, I don't blame you - I might not be suspicious for drugs, but yeah, I'd be suss. At least the cops are doing their jobs I say, but not everyone's going to see it that way.

He did ask what that was in my pocket, to which I pulled it out and said "a pack of cigarettes." He just smiled and said "You should give up", which was surprising, what with the stupid law of '18 to buy, yet 16 to smoke'.

And BBCW, the laws aren't that different down here - we just have to keep our pet crocodiles on a leash at all times.

They have to have probable cause to search you or your car. Down here if you have a lighter, that does serve as probable cause. They can't just search your car if they feel like it, they need to have some reason or cause. Most of the people on Cops give them a cause to search their car.

Good point. It always seems suspicious when you say "no" anyway, like you're hiding something.

Not by much. It takes a cop all of about 15 minutes to get a search warrant in most places, and they'll just have someone else do it while they sit in their car and waste your time.

I'm confused. You're walking around at 2:30 in the morning and are surprised that a cop stops you? Christ, my friends and I get stopped by cops at 7:00 PM for walking around in front of the house we're hanging out at.

Yes, cops can do this. It's not just you. I'm surprised more people than just Rob are posting that it happened to them. A few weeks ago, I was standing outside a coffeeshop by my car on my CELL PHONE~! and a cop passed me, looked right at me with HATE in his eyes, and tried to pull off a U-Turn. He fucked it up, though, so I left. I was trying to, anyways.
