Guest Ice Report post Posted February 10, 2002 Ok, I haven't bought ANY puro tapes since July and am wanting to get back into buying them. I recently watched through AJPW Super Power Series 99 again and loved it, so am wanting to get some more AJPW tapes. I'm also looking to get some more Juniors stuff, from NJPW, Toryumon, Michinoku Pro or anywhere else. So: What are some good AJPW tapes? (I only have Super Power Series 99) What are some good Junior Heavyweight tapes? (I have all 3 J Cups, Michinoku Pro These Days, Toryumon Comes To Japan and Toryumon/Michinoku Pro Dragons Gym) Also, would 'New Japan Vs All Japan Nine Match Series 2001' with Mutoh vs Tenryu, Mutoh vs Hase and Kawada vs Tenzan be worth getting? Thanks in advance

I'm also looking to get some more Juniors stuff, from NJPW, Toryumon, Michinoku Pro or anywhere else. So: What are some good AJPW tapes? (I only have Super Power Series 99) First off, the *best* stuff from All Japan is their 1993 TV blocks. Guys like Lynch, Zach Arnold, Tabe, etc. have that stuff. For comm. tapes, you must have the basic four: -Misawa vs. Kawada 6/3/94 -Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue 6/9/95 -Misawa/Akiyama vs. Kawada/Taue 12/6/96 -Misawa vs. Kobashi 1/20/97 (New Year's Giant Series 1997) The comm. tapes with early Misawa matches are all great, especially the one with the Jumbo Tsuruta 6/90 match. The RWTL 1992-1994 tape rocks, with the ***** 12/3/93 Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue. The 1995 Champion Carnival set is also awesome. From my experience, the AJ vs. NJ stuff from 2001 isn't very good compared to the 90's stuff. But the 1/4/01 Dome show is great. If you want to learn about which AJPW matches to track down, I would check out jdw's AJ Pimping Post, which is located here: http://www.deathvalleydriver.com/ajpimping.html

Thanks in advance What are some good AJPW tapes? (I only have Super Power Series 99) My situation is similar, as this was my first exposure to AJPW. It pretty much screws everything up becuase when one reverts back to the classic mid and early '90s bouts, they seem almost tame because they aren't trying to give each other brain damage from the head drops. DO NOT let this discourage you, as the classis '90s AJ matches trully are great, but don't expect the plethora of memory erasing moves that you saw from Misawa vs Kobashi 6/11/99. I'm starting to collect AJ from '93 featuring the unreal Kobashi run of great matches. Kobashi vs. Hansen is a great, great match. What are some good Junior Heavyweight tapes? I SAY, get Liger vs. Ohtani from 3/96 and 2/97. 3/96 is one of the greatest instances of in rimg storytelling I've ever seen, not to mention my favorite. 2/97 takes the previous year's match and, though I don't like it AS much, paces it more evenly and is just a fantastic match. Guest Ice Report post Posted February 11, 2002 Thanks for the help, but the guy I'm buying the tapes from doesn't have any of the All Japan matches you mentioned apart from the Misawa vs Kawada 6/3/94 and Misawa vs. Kobashi 1/20/97 which are both on compilation tapes featuring just Misawa vs Kawada and Misawa vs Kobashi matches respectively. While I'm sure I'd like all those matches, I'd father have an actual or event with a variety of wrestlers on rather than the same 2 guys going at it 6 times. I'm in the UK so that kind of limits who I can buy off, as I don't really want to be importing tapes from the US that will cost twice as much. If you could help pick out a good (preferably non comp.) tape from his site then I'd appreciate it a lot http://strongstyle.hypermart.net/ajpwtapes.html As for the Lyger vs Ohtani matches, I can't seem to see them either... Would Skydiving J be a good choice? It looks good and I think I heard someone recommend it elsewhere. Thanks again
Guest ElLocoTas Report post Posted February 11, 2002 Many people have had big problems with tapes they bought from your trade so I recommend you to check the following thread out: http://pub44.ezboard.com/fpalwre....3.topic Just read it and draw your own conclusions. Guest Ice Report post Posted February 11, 2002 Yeah, there was a thread at another board (The UK Fan Forum) about it a while ago that got loads of replies. I've had a problem with SST in the past, where I had to wait 5 months for a tape, but other than that everything I've ordered from him has come in about 2 weeks and even though it took a while he did eventually get it out to me. I've heard that his service has picked up again recently so I'm going to take a chance and send off for a tape in the next couple of days, and if all goes well I'll be sending off for more soon. I'm still unsure as to whether I trust him or not, but apart from that one time he always had a good service so I'm going to give him another chance. Anyway, I don't know of any other traders in the UK who have as many tapes in as good quality as him, I also like the covers he does for them...:-\ Thanks for the concern and help though
