Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 24, 2002 its a MMA fed run by Antonio Inoki its basically the same thing as UFC except its in a regular ring with some special rules. Such as if they are in the guard for a long time or are about to fall out of the ring the refs will reposition them in the center of the ring. There are 3 rounds of 15 minutes with a 5 minute overtime or it will goto the judges, but if one fighter is 20 pounds lighter than the opponet then he gets an advantage, usually the guy with the most offense and no bruises wins. The some of the fighters come from New Japan, Fujita and Sakuraba are the favorite fighters who were wrestlers. Sakuraba was pushed as the Gracie killer after defeating Royce, Royler, Renzo. All of the usual MMA fighters have worked for the PRIDE FC promotion at one time or another, the Gracies, Lions Den, Hammer House, Takada gym. Even Rickson who is supposed to be the best of the clan has fought for PRIDE. This was where Ken Shamrock went when he left the WWF. PRIDE is one of the best MMA promotions today, check out the 4 DVD set of the Grand Prix 2000, and Return of the Warriors Pride 10 are good starting points, or anything with the Gracies or Sakuraba & Takada. Much of this is wrong. First of all, Pride is run by Dream Stage Entertainment, which has no affiliation with Inoki. He may exert some influence over them, but he by no means "runs" Pride. The main rule differences between Pride and UFC are that in Pride, knees and kicks to the head on the ground are legal, while elbows/forearms are not. The opposite is true in the UFC. The round format is also nowhere near what you say. That would lead to 45-50 minute matches, which would be ridiculous. The current Pride format is a 10 minute round, followed by two 5 minute rounds. Judge's decisions are a bit different from the UFC as well. In the UFC, judges actually score the bout, whereas in Pride, they simply vote on who they think won by inflicting the most damage, and so on.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted April 24, 2002 well the Special rules from Grand Prix 2000 confused me the Royce Gracie vs Sakuraba match went 90 minutes!!!!!
Guest Tomato Can Report post Posted April 24, 2002 Yea, those were those "special rules" that Royce negotiated. Unlimited 15 minute rounds. Most of those matches were just one 15 minute round and then a decision if needed. It's easy to get confused, Pride used to change its format for nearly every show. Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted April 30, 2002 PRIDE, if I recall correctly, also had a reputation for having the occasional fixed match...
