I remember Squirrel Nut Zippers when Swing made its comeback.

#1 song was the remix of Macarena by Los Del Rio

Remeber Jimmy's Chicken Shack? They did "What Do I Do?" It came out a few summers ago.

Or was that a hit?

I liked it a litte.

Best one-hit of all time - "Take on Me" by A-Ha.  It's such a gay song, but damn me, I love it.

From my grunge days, how about "Cumbersome" by Seven Mary Three?

Cherry Poppin' Daddies-Zoot Suit Riot

I have that album!  And even though I'm the last guy on the planet who should like swing music, I really dig that particular CD.  Fun stuff.

Go West-King Of Wishful Thinking

Didn't they have another hit called "Do for Love" or something like that?

Would they really be a one-hit wonder?  Seems to me that they had a hit with "High" off their "Pushing the Salmonella Envelope" album.

The only Jimmy's Chicken Shack song I've ever heard was "What Do I Do"... pretty good song, by the way.

How about Local H, "All The Kids Are Right"? Not sure if it's really a big hit, but it's the biggest hit the otherwise pretty good but relatively ignored band has.

Are you all forgetting the biggest One Hit Wonder of all time?

(actually two of them)

"Don't Worry Be Happy" by whats-his-name, I think it's Brian something.

And "BABY GOT BACK"(!!!) by Sir Mixalot(!!!).

Gee, can you guess what song I really like?

Blaque sang "808." And Left Eye wasn't in the group. They were a just cheap TLC rip-off and had a girl who sounded like Left Eye. Blaque did do a song with NSync that was kind of popular, so they may not qualify as one-hit wonders.

Oh, I knew Left Eye wasn't in Blaque. I meant the group she put together.

"Return of the Mack" rocks bells. I love that song for some strange reason.

Another one someone may have mentioned(too lazy to check): MoKenStef.

Not big enough to crack a top 100 list, really.  And they had other hits, too:  "Bound For The Floor" or something along those lines was played constantly in the D.C. suburb I lived in when it was out.  "Eddie Vedder," too, off the same album.  But I think a lot of the stuff on the VH1 list was debatable, as to whether or not the artist was a one hit wonder.  Vanilla Ice definitely had other singles that were in rotation.  I remember some ballad that was released shortly after "Ice Ice Baby" that was played enough.

As far as who is considered 1 hit wonders:

Aqua:Barbie Girl was the "big" hit, but they had another Top 40 hit with "If I Could Turn Back Time"

Mr. Cheeks:Solo, he's only had "Light's, Camera, Action"...but he's been in the Lost Boyz for years, producing such hits as "Renee", "Music Makes Me High" and "Me and My Crazy World"

Samantha Mumba:After "Gotta Tell You" she put out "Baby Come On Over", which gets a lot of airplay

Five:After "When The Lights Go Out" they put out "It's The Things You Do"

Cityhigh: After "What Would You Do" put out "Caramel", which is a pretty big hit, either the regular version or the Eve remix

Someone asked about the rap song with "Do the ditty ditty..."...that was Paperboy, off of his only (I believe) release The Nine Yards

Jimmy's Chicken Shack first got a lot of airplay with "Dropping Anchor" off of Pushing The Salmanila Envelope

On VH1, they had Quiet Riot on the One Hit Wonders special.  They have two big hits though, one was "Come On Feel The Noize" and the other was "Bang Your Head"...so we can't even rely on a music network to get things right!

Other 1 hit wonders

Imajin "Shorty You Keep Playing With My Mind"

99 Luftballoons

U Krew "If You Were Mine"

and a great 80's song, so great that even Puffy had to sample it..."Break My Stride" (not sure who sings it thought)

Matthew Wilder.  I looked it up.

You know i thought that group would actually go somewhere. Instead I see them rapping about upcoming Realworld Episodes.

But they still can go somewhere. I like their music messages.

I loved Chumbawamba when I was about 12.

I listened to the tape (Yeah, I bought the album on tape) several times a day.

How weird is it that City High's "What would you do" actually came out years ago (It was on the "Life" sdtk.) but only got popular last year?

And if you define a one-hit wonder as someone who you only remember because of one song -- than does that make Canibus a one-hit wonder? I mean, the only song anyone remembers him for is "2nd round KO."

I think a 1 hit wonder is either:

the only song remembered by the artist, and is on ever radio station playlist.

or the only song that hit the billboard charts selling millions of singles and albums.  Then the 2nd album usually was a misable failure which could not follow up the success that was the hit song.

I'm sure I'm going to also piss someone off with this, but another one of my favorite one hit wonders is The Mighty Mighty Bosstones? "The Impression That I Get" is a really great song.  TMMB are much more of one-hit wonders in my mind than Duran Duran.

'Tis true that TITIG is a great song, but it doesn't really compare with some of the 'Tones older stuff, like "Devil's Night Out," "More Noise And Other Distrbances," or "Question The Answers."  TITIG (and the album it was, "Let's Face It") are a step "down" for the Bosstones because they focus less on their true ska leanings and go more for mainstream, catchy pop.  It worked, because they got a lot of airplay, but their older albums are where they really shine.

Incidentally, if you liked TITIG, you might want to check out a couple of tracks from their 2000 release, "Pay Attention":

"So Sad To Say" (could have been a big radio hit)

"High School Dance"

"One Million Reasons"

If they didn't say "Bang Your Head (Metal Health)" was Quiet Riot's "one hit", then what did they say it was?! I know that's the only Quiet Riot song I knew for a while...

How about:

The Knack - My Sharona

The Vapors - Turning Japanese

Toni Basil - Mickey

J. Geils Band - Centrefold

Boney M - Rivers Of Babylon

I'll go with Canibus "2nd Round KO" the reason the song was so good because it had a boxing theme, dissed LL, and had Mike Tyson on it. I wouldn't right off City High just yet people consider them The next Fugees 2k2. Changing Face "Stroke you up" and Camp Lo's "Cooley High"

They called Come On Feel The Noize their "one hit".  Not for nothing, but I think Bang Your Head actually came out BEFORE they released "Noize" as a single.  Bang Your Head is the song I remember well too.  Hell, I still have the record.

Heh, me too.  I got it for Christmas last year from my cousin along with Van Halen's 1984 and Def Leppard's Pyromania.

As far as one hit wonders go, I can't believe I forgot to mention "Turning Japanese" and "My Sharona" before.  Hmmm... who hasn't been mentioned yet?

How about Ben E. King's "Stand by Me"? That's the only Ben E. King song I know, and most people know it as an R&B classic of sorts without knowing anything else about the artist or anything.
