First, they boo O Canada at the Raptors/Pistons game, now, I just hear them chanting "USA! USA!" and booing the anthem at the Leafs/Isles game.

Hey TREBLE CLEFT. I'm Canadian and I completely agree that that was disrespectful. BUT I went to the Canucks/red wigns game and their were people booing the american anthem there. and even more sadly when the people were asked to have a moment of silence for the dead canadian soldiers some people kept on making noise.

 

It's not just americans, We canadians do it too.

Here's the solution to your problem, don't play a foriegn country's National Anthem.  No offense, but i couldn't care less about the Canaidian Anthem, just as I'm sure most Canaidians don't care about America's, so I think we should stop playing each other's song.

I hate it when anyone makes any kind of disruptive noise during the national anthem(s).  Here in Baltimore, every time they get to the, "Oh say does that star-spangled banner..." part of the anthem, Orioles and Ravens fans shout out the "Oh!" (from the Orioles being called the O's, of course).  It's louder at the baseball games, but it's done at both places, and it irks me every time.  It's the national freaking anthem.  I know the fans paid their money and all that, but people far better than they died defending the flag that anthem was written about, and I think it deserves more respect.

 

As a frequenter of hockey games back in the day, I heard the Canadian anthem a lot.  I'm probably one of the few Americans who knows the words (to the first verse, at least), and I never once booed it being played.  Anyone who does that is indeed a jackass.

I don't like national anthems, and I don't care for them being played at sporting events. However, when they are played, I stand up and don't make a scene, or if I don't want to be there I'll go to the bathroom or the concessions or whatnot. Booing during the anthem is uncalled for under and circumstances, it does no good and just inflames situations that don't need to be there in the first place. What really annoys me up here in Canada is hearing the Canadian media going on about how what happened at the Pistons game was unacceptable, yet they don't say squat about the Canucks game, and even more, last year when the same thing was happening at Canucks and Oilers games, all I heard from the media was "well, I wouldn't do it but I won't tell people what to do with their money". Have the guyts to call a spade a spade, booing the anthem is stupid no matter where you are or where you are from.

I don't mind it so much if it is your own country's national anthem, especially if it isn't meant to be disrespectful.  I think its just common courtesy to respect the anthem of other countries.

Hey Treblw, on the radio today they played the The Caniadian and American national anthem as played by the Montreal Canaidians Organist.  The Canaidian fans cheered wildly for the well played and Sung rendition of their anthem and then BOOED very loudly for the American Anthem.  Plus the Canaidian guy seemed to intentially play the American Anthem poorly and the Singer butchered it.

 

Disrepectful canaidian bastards!  (This really happened and I do find it pathetic, however I won't condemn all of Canada for it, I'll just add to my list of reasons to dislike the French.

People doing stupid stuff during any anthem bothers me, but I think what bothers me just as much is when people cheer after any anthem. Call me square or uptight if you want to but, you aren't really suppose to cheer after the anthem, and doing so is just a disrespectful trend that got started some time back.

I don't mind cheering after the anthem, but what I can't stand is the cheering during the anthem. There's that one spot near the end (i can't think of exactly what spot at the moment cus i'm really tired) of the american national anthem where the singer always hits a high note and the crowd cheers and it really bugs me.

I think that unless it's Nikolai Volkoff doing the Soviet anthem for cheap heat, you should stand up, shut up, and respect the anthems being played.  And then feel free to boo the visiting team.

What is up with our obssesion with playing anthems before sporting events?  Is it really necessary? I would of course, be respectful if they played another anthem.  You guys are right, people= a holes

What was funny was them Playing the Canadian National anthem at the toronro/detroit game the other night.  Like any player from the Raps is Canadian yea right. (if one is please excuse my ignorance). But people should still be respectful.

After all of what's gone on in the last few days, I've come to the conclusion that only 1 anthem should be played before a game if an American team plays a Canadian team.  The home country's anthem gets the fans into the game, so just play that one.

Well, I think the booing will end for now (at least in the NHL playoffs).  Obviously, in the Ottawa/Toronto series, there will be no booing, and as for Montreal/Carolina, I doubt that any of the hockey fans in Carolina (is there such a thing?) even know where Canada is.

I'm Canadian, so either way, since I live in America, I don't care. NBA fans are all illiterate, ghetto assholes any way. They wouldn't know a good sport if a flying rubber disc hit them in the head.
