Actors who you beleive

Johnny Depp use to be. Funny thing is he's now so popular that he's getting close to being "overrated'' by the masses.

There are a couple that I believe are underrated

Gary Sinese (Ransom, Forrest Gump)

Tom Bergenger (Majore League, Platoon)

Ed O'Neil (Married With Children, Little Giants)

Ed easily has the best facial expressions in the business!

Kiefer Sutherland, he has a great range and can play so many different roles and do them well. He's gotten more recognition with 24, hopefully when he decides to step away from the show he'll get more movie roles, I think he could get an Oscar nod with the right part.

Bela Lugosi has been screwed over. I got a package of old horror movies, some of which starred Mr. Lugosi. The man was an absolute natural. And his face was such that he could play a sympathetic character or a madman. It's a shame he got relegated to the horror/science fiction genre. By the way, I'm saying this and I have yet to see Dracula(I hope to get the set over the summer). I think that tells you something. Also, Bruce lee gets props, but I don't think many people saw just how talented he was as an actor as well as a fighter, and there was such promise in Return of the Dragon that could have been a very good action director. Also, there are some anime voice actresses who can play an incredblely wide variety of roles. Go to imdb.com and see what some of the voice actresses fromAzumanga Daioh have done. One did Kero-chan, a little magical stuffed animal type character, and also played the gym teacher, Ms. Kurosawa, in Azumanga Daioh.

James Woods - the pimp scumbag character he played in Casino TOTALLY captured the usual relationship between, youth gone wrong prostitues, and pimps that prey on them for money and sex. This among other roles of course. I just think James Woods is a natural at what he does.

Jared Leto - when I was younger, I thought he was just a pretty boy hearthrob, but seeing some of the roles he has taken on in the independent movie scene has changed my mind around a lot.

Jeff Bridges - The Big Lewboski, need I say more?

Willum Defoe - Shadow of the Vampire was great

Eric Bana - The Aussies say that he is a comedian but all I know is the drama from the Hulk and Troy movies.

So you're saying he's a natural at being a scumbag that preys on women? If the rumors are to be believed, you aren't far off.

He was the only good thing in Speed 2. And he was a perfect Norman Osborn. A natural at being creepy.

Richard Belzer - I still can't believe that this guy was a comedian.

Colm Feore - At some point he'll get a role where people will see why he was the fricking man at the Stratford Festival in Ontario.

Willem DaFoe, Gary Oldman and James Woods? I don't believe i've ever heard of them being underrated...they're USUALLY critically acclaimed when referred to...

Nick Stahl: he made the John Connor character his own in T3, was spectacular in Bully, and apparently kicked ass in Carnivale. Not to mention holding his own with Mel Gibson in "Man Without A Face" when he was about 13.

As far as actresses go, I've really enjoyed Jena Mallone's work. Her part in Donnie Darko was good and she stole the show in Cheaters.

I think that I'm going to check out "Saved" because of her too.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking

Most actors/actresses that are "underrated" are happy and entertaining in their indie environments. Janeane Garofalo, Steve Buscemi - Haven't seen Garofalo in a while, but Buscemi, apart from doing the odd favour for Adam Sandler is a Tarantino mainstay.

I swear, I thought Ben Affleck would stay a Kevin Smith guy...

Kiefer's getting his go in 24, and he's great in it. Definitely recognised.

Josh Hartnett? Hardly. He's just "that guy in that teen movie".

She was also really good in The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, and I too count her as a reason to check out Saved!, even though the reviews haven't all been kind.

FYI, she played the younger version of Jodie Foster in Contact, and both actresses were in the aforementioned ...Altar Boys.

Another undeerrated actress I just thought of is Zooey Deschanel. She was great in both Almost Famous and All The Real Girls. I would also say Maggie Gyllenhaal, but she's been getting props since her turn in Mona Lisa Smile, a movie she probably shouldn't have done.

As for actors, I would count Peter Sarsgaard and James Spader.

I would've said Christian Bale as well, but by this time next year he'll become one of the biggest things in Hollywood.

She was also really good in "Life as a House" as well...Playing a innocent yet seductive girl next door with Kevin Kline (yet another quasi under rated performer)

She also made herself well known in Hallmark movies like "Ellen Foster" playing the abused young girl. Or her major debut in "Bastard out of Carolina"

And she should be great in Saved.

What about Bill Paxton? He never gets credit and yet has given many a good performence and has grossed more then any other actor has and yet is still under rated.

If you want your movie to make loads of cash..cast this guy.

Josh Hartnett.

Dude, he's so bad. He doesn't play roles, he plays himself. Dare I say he is the msot one-dimensional actor around nowadays. Yes, he's that bad.

I'll cop out and say Jason Lee. He is good as the sarcastic asshole (Almost Famous and Chasing Amy) but he also has great comedic timing. His dramatic stylings are the only part of his game that he needs improvement.

His performance in Sketch Comedy over here is brilliant. If you ant more Bana goodness, check out 'Chopper,' an Australian Flick.

And I'd go with James Woods too. I especially enjoyed Citizen Cohn just for his performance.

Norton is generally regarded as one of the best actors working today. Turturro doesn't get mainstream props but he is a critical darling.

I'm with you on Statham, though.

Most of the adult actors in the Harry Potter films, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branaugh and the like. You can add Brendan Gleeson to that list now that he's going to be in the next one. They were underrated long before the Potter flicks, except maybe Branaugh in the Henry V days.

Another two of my favourites who actually are starting to get noticed are Brian Cox and Chris Cooper. They were underrated for years too.
