Guest alfdogg Report post Posted April 24, 2002 I downloaded the newest version of WMP, and it said handles .mpg, .avi, etc files. So I download it and try to play an .avi file and it doesn't work. Can anyone help me, or does anyone know something I can download (besides DivX) that will play them?
Guest Report post Posted April 24, 2002 you need dvx installed on your computer if you are playing divx avi's in windows media player. WMP is the shit --Rob
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 24, 2002 Yes, you need the DivX codec. Generally, I've had better experiences with the DivX player for DivX-encoded files than with WMP (sometimes WMP works, sometimes it craps out). You can find the full version of the DivX package on Kazaa, but if you don't encode any movies, the free version is good enough.

I also suggest you use UltraPlayer... it makes WMP look like a bitch. :-p
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 24, 2002 UltraPlayer, huh? Thanks, I've been looking for a good WMP replacement. Does it get updated often, and does it download codecs automatically?
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted April 24, 2002 I doesn't update often at all, and doesn't update codecs automatically. You can download cool skins for it, though. I simply it like it because it's MUCH better than WMP for MP3s, AVIs, etc.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted April 25, 2002 By the way, if anyone hates the latest Windows Media Player, with all of its unnecessary bs, the old one is still on your system in c:\program files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe.

Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted April 26, 2002 Thank you. I hate the new Media Player. I can't listen to mp3s without my comp slowing down. This didn't happen when I used Winamp but that fucked up my printer so I was stuck WMP.

Guest alfdogg Report post Posted May 1, 2002 You can find the full version of the DivX package on Kazaa, but if you don't encode any movies, the free version is good enough. What is the keyword? And what do you mean "encoding movies?" (I don't know much about this stuff)
