Interesting list. They could build a semi-decent team with a few of those guys.

There is one HELL of a team to be made there. One HELL of a team.

I personally would take

Penny Hardaway, Eddie Jones, Maurice Taylor and Danny Fortson DEFINATELY

The rule is teams can only protect 6 players or something like that right?

As for the Celtics if that's true I don't know why they are leaving Atkins open, he's the best point guard we've had in a while.

And on a sidenote...Michael Stewart is making 4.8 million a year?!?!?! Has he even played an entire game's worth of minutes yet?

There are a good selection of names out there this time around, should be interesting come expansion draft day.

Here are the rules of the Expansion Draft

SUMMARY OF EXPANSION DRAFT RULES

A. Player Selection

The Charlotte Bobcats Expansion Draft will take place on June 22 (if the NBA Finals extend to seven games, it will be June 23), prior to the 2004 NBA Draft on June 24.

The Bobcats will select a minimum of 14 players who are under contract or restricted free agents for the 2004-05 season.

The Bobcats may select no more than one player from each team.

The Bobcats can only select players that are left unprotected by an NBA team.

Each of the 29 NBA teams may protect a maximum of eight players on its roster who are under contract or are restricted free agents at the conclusion of the 2003-04 season.

Each of the 29 NBA teams will designate the players on its roster who are eligible for selection by the Bobcats.

Each of the 29 NBA teams must designate at least one player on its roster to be eligible for selection by the Bobcats, even if the team does not have eight players under contract or as restricted free agents for the 2004-05 season.

Any player under contract selected by the Bobcats will immediately be placed on the Bobcats roster.

Any eligible restricted free agent selected by the Bobcats shall immediately become an unrestricted free agent.

Unrestricted free agents are not eligible to be protected nor are they eligible to be selected by the Bobcats.

B. Pre-Expansion Draft Trades

Teams will be permitted to enter into pre-Expansion Draft trades in which Charlotte agrees to select or not select certain unprotected players.

C. Salary Cap

Charlotte will be permitted to select players in the Expansion Draft without regard to the Salary Cap.

Charlotte will have a Salary Cap in its first season equal to 66% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league and a Salary Cap in its second season equal to 75% of the Salary Cap applicable to the rest of the league.

Charlotte will be permitted to sign any restricted free agent it selects in the Expansion Draft using the same “Bird,” “Early Bird” or “Non-Bird” Exception that the player’s prior team would have had.

Compensation paid to a selected player under a contract protected for lack of skill will be excluded from Charlotte’s Team Salary if the player’s contract is terminated (via the waiver procedure) prior to the start of the 2004-05 season.

A team with a Team Salary above the Salary Cap will receive a Trade Exception to replace a player (other than a restricted free agent) selected from its unprotected list.

D. Post-Expansion Draft Transactions

A team will not be permitted to reacquire a player that it loses in the Expansion Draft prior to the expiration of one year from the date of the Expansion Draft, unless the player is waived and not claimed by any other team.

In most cases, you don't go after all the high priced guys on the list since you want to build a stable bench and frankly you want to hold some cash for your rookie picks.

Dixon they should grab.

Hardaway would be a good veteran grab up.

The rest are really up in the air.

Using the right combo of scorers and role players, they could build a playoff team out of that honestly. I mean love him or hate him, Antwain is a 20 and 10 guy. Kerry Kittles or Eddie Jones are both VERY capable shooters and defenders. Penny Hardaway can still runa offense and Juawn Dixon is a perfect backup/starter at either guard position.

But no matter what they do. With their last pick, take Popeye Jones or Bo Outlaw. Those guys are 1000% hustle.

I think I'd go with Outlaw over Popeye. Bo is a lot more athletic and he has sunglasses.

Eddie Jones is a very underrated points guy too, he lead Miami in it this year, although he does occasionaly take some awful shots in crunch time.

But yeah, few decent names there.

So, Rip, how many games will the Hawks finish behind this team?

I guess the Celtics can say good-bye to Brandon Hunter. The man scouts called Baby Shaq...I hate Danny Ainge. I don't understand why he didn't throw Perkins up on the list instead, or Raef Lafrentz. I hope Red hits Ainge with his cane.

If they pick the right players, I could see the Bobcats winning 25-30 games next year. What's the record amount of wins for a first year NBA team?

The Bulls won thirty-three games in 1967 in their first season as an NBA team.

Scott Layden. And No, he wasn't THAT good even before his knee injuries either.

Yeah, I thought he was a bench guy even during the best days of his career.

Is Gerald Wallace still the "when he gets playing time he will be a star" of two years ago or has he regressed into a player showing why he only gets 9 min/game? If he has any of that potential still, he could be worth a 1.6 mil flier pick.

Essentially the problem is that the Knicks made the finals as the eighth seed, and ownership thought the team was better than it was, and desperately needed to retain its top players. Hence, bad contracts abound.

The Mavericks picked some good guys to put up for the Draft. Now, Walker is a damned good basketball player, but I think he just didn't fit in Dallas. But I could see him leading Charlotte somewhere.

The Chicago Bulls...what a waste land of players. Fizer is the only guy I would even think of selecting. Everyone else is overpaid or overaged.

Can anyone tell me how much money Charlotte will have to work with? What the official maximum to spend (salary cap) is in the NBA?

Want to do one of those "who I would pick" deals but want to know how much $$$ i'd have to work with.

The Bobcats can only use 66% of this year's NBA salary cap to make their team. The salary cap won't be announced until the first week of free agency which starts July 14th.

However last year's cap was $43.84 million and this year's figure should be similar to that.
