Guest pochorenella Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but anyway, do you have a CD that you think it's really great but that band or artist never hit it big or was never given the recognition you thought it deserved? In my case, I think this applies to Saigon Kick's The Lizard CD. I bought it when it came out and really, really liked it and thought they would be the next big thing in rock music. I think it was maybe their first or second album only (I think they only put out 3 total). But then the album went completely ignored except for their single "Love is on the Way", which is a good song but the album was so much more than that. Now I think the band is no longer together and that's a shame because they had potential to be so much more than a rock hair band, which was not uncommon at that time period. So, your thoughts? Remember it has to be an unknown/forgotten artist that maybe released only a couple of albums and you thought they were very good. Let's see if this thread goes anywhere. Peace.

Guest Choken One Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Of course, I always thought Life of Agony should have hit it big in the early 90's with River Runs Red.
Guest razazteca Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 DJ Magic Mike was one of my favorite rappers from the late 80s. His song "Drop the Bass" was the hit that was on the local Florida radio stations. I thought this was the future of Florida base rap but unfortunely, a certain group called 2 Live Crew took the sound into another direction for the worst with sexually content thus making Booty Bass the popular sound. And the rest is history, DJ Magic Mike still makes albums but his niche of the market is now in the car stereo competition shows instead of mainstream appeal as Luke Campbell has become today.
Guest swan Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 The Meatpuppets had a minor hit with "Backwater" which wasn't even close to the best song by them. All the albums they put out kicked ass.
Guest razazteca Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 The Toadies was a rock band that had maybe 2 radio friendly songs. But bitterness and illness within the band broke them up.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Toadies were very good... I'm currently in love with a band called Shadows Fall, and their albums Somber Eyes To The Sky and Of One Blood are always in heavy rotation. Of course, the biggest band I love that almost nobody knows of/remembers is STUCK MOJO. Everything about them attracts me to them. Amen are another band that few people know of that I like a lot. Amen was a good introductory album, and We Have Come For Your Parents should have somewhat given them larger success, and the lyrics are rebellios, thought-out, and the music is a blend of punk, metal, funk (I hear some funk elements), and pure aggro. Wicked good band, and only 3 people know about them, it seems.
Guest swan Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Of course, the biggest band I love that almost nobody knows of/remembers is STUCK MOJO. Everything about them attracts me to them. I like the song "Assassination of a Pop Star" and a few others. I have never heard a full album. You would think more people would remember them since Dallas page was in a video for them that aired on Nitro a few times.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 And, swan, they're also really good friends with Chris Jericho, and he practically whored them out left and right during his articles about music of any kind...
Guest swan Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Then again look at the band that did the DX theme. They performed at Wrestlemania even. How many people remember them. I can't remember it right now.
Guest BobbyBacklund Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Then again look at the band that did the DX theme. They performed at Wrestlemania even. How many people remember them. I can't remember it right now. That was Conneticut Yankee. I too like Stuck Mojo, and another one is Stereomud.
Guest razazteca Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 I thought that the DX band was H-Block?
Guest goodhelmet Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Yeah, the Toadies album was excellent. Another album I like alot is Eddy Grant's "Killer On the Rampage". It's not a good album and Eddy Grant isn't really a good reggae singer and "Electric Avenue" gets on my nerves now. But as a whole the album just makes me feel...... happy
Guest Mystery Eskimo Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 I'd just like to mention Kingmaker and Silver Sun, two very minor British bands who are now defunct, but who I loved dearly
Guest pochorenella Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Hey, Swan, great link to that all music webpage. But they give The Lizard 4 stars on Saigon Kick's page (it's even a critic's pick), but when I click on the review they give it a bad one. What gives? I remember when I bought the original Temple of The Dog CD and nobody knew them, but after Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc., hit it big then the album sold like hotcakes. So I guess that one's disqualified.
Guest Choken One Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 H-Block X is the band that did the first remake of Austin's theme.
Guest razazteca Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Freddy Johnson is a talented singer/song writer that did movie soundtracks. But never made it big on the music charts as a solo artist.
Guest swan Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Hey, Swan, great link to that all music webpage. But they give The Lizard 4 stars on Saigon Kick's page (it's even a critic's pick), but when I click on the review they give it a bad one. What gives? Go back and look again. Saigon Kick(critic pick) and Water both received 4 stars while The Lizard only received 2 1/2 stars. If the Lizard is the only album yoiu have heard I recommend finding the debut or Water. Both are very good
Guest converge241 Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 EMF "Stigma" SO GODDAMN GOOD!!!!! nothing like unbelievable Pop Will Eat Itself "Dos Dedos Mis Amigos" Saigon Kick (in order) "saigon kick" "the lizard" "devil in the details" "water" Mutha's Day Out - a very underated major label band that was super-ignored
Guest swan Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Saigon Kick (in order) "saigon kick" "the lizard" "devil in the details" "water" To clear things up. "Water" was released in 1993 and "Devil in Details" in 1995.Then they released "Bastards" in 1999 and "Third Stone" in either 2000 or 2001.
Guest goodhelmet Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Godschild -everybody this was released in '94, I believe. The album rocks through and through and sounds like a cosmic dream. Too bad the follow-up sucked. Another album I used to like was from a chick named Casey Scott called "Creep City". Never heard from her again either.

I should add in the bootleg from the tour when Jason was gone and Matt came back and they only played songs off "Saigon" and "Lizard"
