Guest Kinetic Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 On the subject of Britney, an english band called sugercoma have done a metal cover of crazy that is the worst song ever released commercially in my eyes. Some woman singer (I'm sorry, but a definite no in any heavy metal band) who starts screaming like a man for the chorus. It. Is. Horrible. I take issue with any of these punk or emo bands that do "ironic" covers of current pop hits. It isn't funny. It's fucking stupid and lame. If I see one more local band do a punk cover of "Genie In A Bottle," someone's going down. Who did a good cover of "Sweet Jane"? I'd imagine that, much like the Beatles, covering VU is a lose-lose proposition.
Guest Ripper Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 "When Nas made the comment towards JAy-Z, "How many of Biggie's rhymes are gonna come out your fat lips," I was cheering my ass off for him." It would have been a great line if it weren't for the fact that if you go through Nas's last 3 albums, there are just as many biggie lines in his songs, too. I guess if he says them faster than biggie did, it doesn't count. And pertaining to that What's going on Song. The thing that disgusted me about it is that they weren't even there singing bout the 9-11 thing. They were talking about the AIDS epidemic. Then 9-11 happened, they added a Fred Durst "rap" where he said something about the 9-11 thing and acted like that is what it was about all along. Forget the fact that Nelly, Nas, Ja Rule and EVE were all talking about AIDS in their rap verses, 9-11 will make more money.
Guest goodhelmet Posted April 26, 2002 Report Posted April 26, 2002 Almost anyone who attempts to do a Beatles cover is gonna come up short of the original so why do these assholes even bother? Justine Bateman also did a cover of "Satisfaction" in the 80's and that really sucked. Who remade Joan Jett's "I Love Rock N Roll"? Because that cover was really shitty as well. Was it Britney Spears?

Guest Brush with Greatness Posted April 27, 2002 Report Posted April 27, 2002 It's not just Ashanti, Puffy, etc using riffs. If you know the song "Regulators" (and I know that you do) that song sampled a beat from another song. And 2pac's "Changes" is directly from Bruce Hornsby's "Thats the Way It is". Two good songs nonetheless.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 I'd say that the only known exception to the "Beatles cover = bad" rule is Joe Cocker's cover of "A Little Help From My Friends".
Guest Flyboy Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Sheryl Crowe's version of "Sweet Child O'Mine" i cant hear the original anymore now. she ruined it. dumb bitch. She fucked with my GNR songs?! DAMN HER!! I haven't heard it and neither will I now. Alien Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal is blah. Any cover Titney does... and so forth.

Guest Ripper Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 Boyz II Men did a cover of "Yesterday" and it ruled.
Guest converge241 Posted April 29, 2002 Report Posted April 29, 2002 "Shock The Monkey" - Coal Chamber (Peter Gabriel) "Back In Black" - Pigface (AC/DC)
