Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted April 25, 2002 Apparently their only show will be a weekly 2 hour PPV that costs $9.95. I guess they don't feel like succeeding.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 25, 2002 That idea won't fly I bet. I wouldn't pay weekly to watch the WWF so why the fuck would I pay weekly to watch a show that has no exposure to wrestling fans except for the pay per view marketplace. stupid idea, just come back to the wwf jeff. i know vince wants you back! Guest Sykotic2002 Report post Posted April 28, 2002 A reason not to order this: THE HARRIS BROTHERS
Guest converge241 Report post Posted April 29, 2002 yikes! i was all set to respond and talk about how ill give it a shot and how they are going to feature a lot of independent talent......... and then i read the harris bros. post. i forgot they were buddies of JJ. I might have to get loaded and try it ... or just not at all...
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted April 30, 2002 I'll probably get their first show just to see how their product is. It's going to be tough to get people to pay money every week for a product they haven't seen before. $10 bucks a week adds up to $40. While the WWF PPV's are now $34 (I belive). If they product is good I would pay for it. They need to offer quality wrestling of course. That's the only way to compete with Vince, IMO. Having a more wrestling based product. Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted April 30, 2002 I think I'll watch a few of their shows. Probably not in the beginning of the promotion because they will still be working the kinks out. You could always use the Harris Brother's matches as a bathroom/food break. Unless they break up the Harris' and use them in two separate single's matches. Now that would suck... Guest swan Report post Posted April 30, 2002 Jarret is using talent from all the NWA territories w/ Jeff being the top guy. I have also heard they have some kind of working agreement w/ WWA too. Basically we'll have to wait and see.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted April 30, 2002 Does anyone know about availability in Canada?
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 2, 2002 I read that they're going to have to get 50,000 buys PER ppv to break even/make money...WWA only gets 20,000 per. This puppy is gonna fail
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 4, 2002 Express Vu, Canada's top satellite provider, has announced that they will be airing the NWA PPV every Wednesday night. Express Vu has over 1.2 million customers. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
Guest Report post Posted May 6, 2002 This has no chance at succeeding. The WWF uses TV to build to a ppv, and then there is a blow-off. How is this promotion going to build to a ppv? That is what killed WCW, so many crash decisions. This is going to force them to go week-to-week. How can they possibly do anything in the long term when they are always concerned with the buy rate of the next week? They will start booking for the next week, and it just won't work. If they go too long term, there buys will not come in and they'll be done before they get started. Why buy the next 2 weeks of shows when you know the "big match" isn't for another 3? As much as I would like it to work, it won't. People say, yeah, you pay $35 for 3 hours of WWF a month, and $40 for 8 hours of NWA a month. You can't discount WWF's TV time, which is an additional 24 hours a month. So really, you're paying $35 for 27 hours a month vs. $40 for 8. Doesn't add up. Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 6, 2002 That's true, but if you haven't noticed the WWF PPV's haven't been worth $35 lately, and the buyrates show that people aren't satisifed with the WWF's current product. This is probably the best time for the NWA to start because the WWF buyrates/ratings have been dwindling.
Guest Report post Posted May 6, 2002 True. If there ever was a time to start, not is it. I think maybe once every other week would be better, or mayble 10 bucks for 2 shows.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 7, 2002 More news: -The new NWA weekly PPV series is expected to be called "NWA TNA: Total Nonstop Action." iN DEMAND is expected to make a formal announcement this week regarding future plans on promoting the NWA PPVs. -The promotion has signed 6 or 7 wrestlers to short-term contracts. Konnan and A.J. Styles have both signed contracts with the NWA. -The NWA is apparently in talks with Randy Savage, Ken Shamrock, and the Ultimate Warrior about signing contracts with them. Deals with them have not been reached yet though. -The NWA is also planning on having a special ceremony on the first PPV that will honor former NWA Champions. Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, and Dory Funk Jr. have all been contacted to appear as part of the ceremony. Credit: PWTorch.com -------------------------------------------------------- 1. "NWA TNA" is just way too many initials. Can't they just call it NWA TV? 2. I don't like Konnan, but the short term contract thing is a good idea. 3. I thought Shamrock was still with the WWF. I doubt Savage will join the company because of his asking price. I HOPE the Warrior doesn't show up, but anything could happen. 4. The Hall of Fame type ceremony sounds cool and should earn the fed a little respect from the smarks.
Guest dpac Report post Posted May 14, 2002 i will surely throw 10 bones down for the first show,,,even though they proably do not have a chance of lasting i think the shows should be pretty well done,,,jarrett family knows old school southern booking so right there you know the storylines and payoffs will be 10/fold better than wwe,,
Guest netslob Report post Posted May 24, 2002 yeah, now whenever "Double J" says "I'm the one with all the stroke around here", it'll actually be true! let the nepotism begin!
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Jerry Jarrett said that Bob Ryder was the one who came up with the idea for the weekly ppv thing. No wonder everyone is bashing it as a stupid idea.
Guest The Son of Sting Report post Posted May 27, 2002 They have to lower the prices to last i think. 9.99 a week is a bit much, it works out more than a WWE PPV. 7.50 a week sounds better, or change the format to two three hour shows a month at 15.00. I really hope they make it.

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 28, 2002 Oh dear gawd. I know a few of the Southern indy workers who are going to work for this company, and I feel like praying for them. This whole thing just reeks more and more of All Russo, All The Time.
Guest Report post Posted May 28, 2002 on the www.nwatna.com website, they have a section called "From the desk of Ed Ferrara" where he talks about how in his contract he "demanded total freedom of speech"... he then goes on to say that he tricked them and that he is going to piss on the tradition of the NWA because old wrestling s ucks... and he can get away with it - because of the freedom of speach clause in his contract! Christ... does the Russo crew really take us for idiots? If someone was really saying stuff that management didn't like, the very best they could hope for was to be off the air with full pay. :-) http://www.nwatna.com/news/05/20/Desk.shtml Check it out, it's about the dumbest thing I've ever read. "I would hope that Mr. Jarrett will cut his losses and leave his "wrestling wisdom" at the door. Let's face it -- philosophy-wise, Jerry Jarrett is an old-school relic who, if he were still on the cutting edge of the sports entertainment business, wouldn't be working so hard right now to get BACK into the sports entertainment business. You see my logic? Thanks for the business plan, Jerry -- we'll call you when your check is cut. And no, we don't want to see a legends match with Dory and Harley doing a 60 minute Broadway. That may have had them hanging from the rafters in St. Louis back when I was wearing my Aquaman Underoos, but I'm afraid it just ain't gonna cut it nowadays." I guess there is ZERO chance of wrestling being on this show at all- when time and time again the ratings have shown that a combination of entertaining matches (maybe not great technical matches, but fun ones to watch) and good, well developed characters is what sells a wrestling show, not over-the-top shock tactics. That's why WWf's ratings went UP when Russo left, and WCW's went DOWN when Russo was booking Viagra on a pole matches there.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 28, 2002 Dan Severn has been stripped of teh NWA title because he can't make the PPV. A new champion will be crowned on June 16. All fingers are pointing at Jarrett.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 29, 2002 You knew he'd get the title sooner or later. How many people are planning on getting this ppv?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 29, 2002 A bunch of my wrestler friends & I will probably chip in $2 a piece to see the first one, just out of curiousity, we know a couple of the indy workers who have signed with the promotion. I think a lot of people will buy the first show just to check out the product. But unless they deliver one of the best damn wrestling shows in history, I expect a HUGE dropoff for the second show's buyrates. Also, I actually get the feeling that Jeff Jarrett might not wind up with the championship. After all, his father owns the damn company, how biased and nepotistic would that make them look? Ken Shamrock is probably the #1 suspect right now, but I'd wait to see if they sign Steiner or Goldberg before placing any bets.

Guest Risk Report post Posted May 30, 2002 How do I order the PPV? I don't have Digital Cable or In Demand, but it is coming to Huntsville, Al, and I live in Alabama. How can I see it on TV? Cable-box?

Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 30, 2002 I'm thinking about ordering this now. With the talent they have lined up and a sweet royal rumble style match in the first main event it looks like it might be a pretty good show.
