Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Ive officially decided im going to give it a 4 week trial. Thats only 5 more dollars than the past two WWE ppvs, which have been one or two match shows at the best. The royal rumble idea sounds good, and i hope they devote most of the 2 hours to it to give time for some decent in ring matchups. Maybe the 1st half hour with promos/videos to establish some of the "names".
Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted June 1, 2002 I may have gotten this PPV a week ago but now I have almost completely change my mind. "Why?" you may ask. Look at what I saw at 1wrestling.com NWA: Total Nonstop Action has announced that they have signed Scott Hall, and he will be participating in the groups debut Pay-per-view broadcast on June 19th. Hall will participate in the "Gauntlet For The Gold" match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship along with Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock, Buff Bagwell, Gran Apolo, and Brian Christopher. This will be Hall's first wrestling appearance since being released from the WWF. It just looks like a bunch of WWE rejects. Whooopity Dooooo. And who the fuck is Gran Apolo? There is no way this group is going to succeed. If they do I will gracefully admit I was wrong (It's not the first time I've had to do that). When are promoters going to learn that no one wants to see WWF(E) rejects. WWA did it (are they still around?), so did XWF (once again are they still around??) and they haven't gotten shit. The only people on the show, that have been announced, that I even give two shits about are Jerry Lynn, Low Ki and AJ Styles. I can't imagine what is going through the NWATNA people's heads. "Hey, Bagwell is still over, right?"
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 1, 2002 I can't imagine why anyone starting a promotion would want Marcus Bagwell. He will kill your promotion! I can't wait for him to flip out at one of the young indy workers and smack him or something like that. Hopefully Road Dogg won't be the next entrant in the Battle Royal. Guest Invader3k Report post Posted June 1, 2002 I probably won't order it, at least the first one. It's probably just going to be booked like a WWF-Attitude style crash-TV rip-off, like WCW was in its last three years. It's going to suck, I think, especially with the "main eventers" they have lined up.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 2, 2002 I think I'll give it a shot. It all depends on if my PPV buddy wants to see it.
Guest Blue Bacchus Report post Posted June 2, 2002 I think I'm just gonna make the hour and half drive to see it live in Huntsville. I'm a sucker when it comes Hall and JJ. Plus Lynn is gonna be there... Should be at least some fun.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 2, 2002 I'll give it a shot when they come here to Nashville to do their second show to see it live. Having Shamrock, AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, and (sigh) Low-Ki is enough to perk my interest, even without the fact that there will be a bunch of local indy guys that I know acting as undercarders & jobbers. Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 3, 2002 Im a bit bummed that they got Bagwell and are talking to Luger, but there is still enough good to outweigh the bad. Like Alicia Webb **heart flutters** and the workrate should be up for the most part.
Guest swan Report post Posted June 3, 2002 For some reason I am getting excited about the NWA. They have a mix of guys that will appeal to both "marks" (which they need to stay in bussiness) and "smarks". And the fact they are signing guys to contracts is very promising. What would be a very good way to get the promotion over would be to somehow sign up Goldberg(even though I hate him). That would give them a huge buzz for at least the short term since I doubt they could afford a long term deal at this point. Might expose them to the casual fan. A local indie (NAWF) has been pimpin' the ppv on its shows and commercials. Another good idea. About 4 or 5 NAWF regulars were on the try out show over the weekend. Could be a lot of fun. Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 3, 2002 Well Steamboat is going to be there so im ordering it. Im seriously thinking about taking the 10 hour drive over there to see it but im not sure.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 3, 2002 The tryout show? I didn't know they had one. Do you know any details like what matches were on it?
Guest swan Report post Posted June 4, 2002 The tryout show? I didn't know they had one. Do you know any details like what matches were on it? Here ya go: http://www.prowrestlingtorch.com/cgi-bin....2_18274 This the second show with "try outs" I believe. On a side note anyone the gets the Wisconsin based NAWF show on the WB out of Janesville/Madison will get to see the matches that involved the NAWF guys w/ Hudson and Cornette on commentary in the coming weeks. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 4, 2002 Which guys were the NAWF guys? I assume they were some of the ones in the opening matches. Actually there have been several "tryout" shows in Nashville with Jerry Jarrett attending, but I'm not sure how many were straight-up talent scouts. I think they already know to a large extent who they wanted to sign, and these shows were just a way of checking for any gems that they might've missed. Guest swan Report post Posted June 4, 2002 Which guys were the NAWF guys? NAWF: Brandon Blaze "Love Machine" Matt Longtime Tweek & Damian (excellent young tag team) Huevos De Oro Kurt Jensen
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 4, 2002 Blaze, Longtime, Tweak, and Damian were all okay, but Jensen and Huevos were pretty bad, they were the babyfaces and the crowd was actually booing them. When Jensen tried to start a "Hue-vos!" chant, there were a lot of laughs.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted June 5, 2002 Well, Rick Steiner has now been signed and added to the "Gauntlet for the Gold" battle royal. Who is worse Bagwell or Rick Steiner?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Bagwell easily. Rick used to be VERY good up until the mid-90's, and is still tolerable when he decides to sell for his opponent (see his matches against Shane Douglas in early 2001). Bagwell couldn't claim either of those. Who else is confused by the fact that they've signed AJ Styles and Low-Ki, but not Christopher Daniels? Of the "internet indy darlings" group, Daniels is easily the best.
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Isnt Daniels currently in Japan with the Curry Man gimmick? I would love to see curry man in any NA promotion. I think if the jarretts book it well enough and announce that Steamboat is there and worship him for at least 10 minutes, it should be an enjoyable little show. Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 I thought curry man was Modest? ((i dont know that much about foreign, but i thought i read that)) anyway it all pales to the following...... (wait for it!!)
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 The King Of Old School Steve MF Corrino will be in the rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of course, so will Rick Steiner but its a price ill pay!!
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 sorry, last one. from the observer: NWA TNA has announced over the past 24 or so hours the following names for their Gaunlet (Royal Rumble style) match for the NWA heavyweight title: Rick Steiner, Konnan, Steve Corino, Norman Smiley, Devon Storm, Vampire Warrior (Dave Heath) and K-Krush (K-Kwik). Guest swan Report post Posted June 6, 2002 I thought curry man was Modest? ((i dont know that much about foreign, but i thought i read that)) anyway it all pales to the following...... (wait for it!!) Curry is Daniels. I have also wondered why he hasn't been signed. He has some east coast dates coming up. Modest wrestles as himself for Noah. Does this thread belong in the Indie forumn anymore? They have contracted wrestlers and PPV. Sounds like a possible second promotion. If I was frozen in 1987 and thawed out today I'd think "What happened to World Class and the AWA?" This whole NWA thing is looking real good. Hope they decide to run some house shows if it does take off.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Curry is Daniels. I have also wondered why he hasn't been signed. He has some east coast dates coming up. Modest wrestles as himself for Noah. thanks for the clarification. I wasnt pretending I knew, I just think i get them melded together sometimes because of their pairing (ill fated) in WCW. I know who they are and all, just not having the exposure to Japan i melded the two names I second the NWA folder . I dont know if well get support cause the thread itself isnt that trafficed. I hope so.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Hope they decide to run some house shows if it does take off. I doubt it because most of the wrestlers are only signed for 26 dates and the lack of house shows was an incentive for the wrestlers who signed with the NWA-TNA. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 i like that they are only broadcasting one show per week because we will get to see every match they produce. no classics will be missed.
Guest gangsteruwa Report post Posted June 7, 2002 At first, with all the rejects being announced I didn't think I would get this PPV. Now I am pretty sure I will be getting this. It now looks like the good really out weighs the bad. the bad being Bagwell, NASCAR and Country Music and the good being practically everything else (no offense to fans of NASCAR or Country Music but plenty of offense to the Bagwell Mark(s). How can you live with yourself(ves).). It would be nice if Corino and Bagwell got into a fight. I would mark out like a little bitch. from A 20 year old Oldschool mark
Guest Report post Posted June 8, 2002 I'll wait to see what the general consensus is on the show before ordering (the replay will be on Sunday afternoon). I'm not very willing to throw away ten bucks on a show that's going to feature Buff Bagwell, ferchissakes.
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted June 9, 2002 Who else is confused by the fact that they've signed AJ Styles and Low-Ki, but not Christopher Daniels? Of the "internet indy darlings" group, Daniels is easily the best. Shit, might as well go all out and get American Dragon & Mike Modest too. Dames
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted June 9, 2002 have a seperate tourney with the cruisers for a seperate title seeing as how the have so many cruisers. A nice 8 man mini tourney with lowki,aj styles, chris daniels, mike modest, american dragon, the amazing red, and a few others and it would be a bitching show.
