My dog died.

Recommended Posts

Guest Choken One

Last Night, My black cocker spainel Dog, Simon died after getting hit by a car (The third time he's been hit by one). What should I do? I thought about  getting an similar dog but It took my other dog, a White cocker about 3 years to get used to the other one and they became best friends...I may offend him. Should I wait until my white cocker, Bogangles dies (He's 12 in Human Years and only has Three legs) and get a new set of dogs (I'm thinking Labs) or get one now so Bogangles can have a friend in his final years?

Sorry to hear about it man. I don't have too much experience with dogs, so I couldn't tell you anything about dog psychology. If I were dying, I would want to have a friend, though.

I'm sorry to hear that.  I own twelve dogs and a few other pets, as I think animals usually make better company than people.

I think the best option would be to visit a local shelter and take a look at the dogs there.  Bring Bojangles with you, so you can see if they get along okay.  Sure, they'll probably bicker with each other at first, but it'd probably work out okay as long as the other dog isn't too aggressive (or too passive, if Bojangles is very aggressive).  They don't necessarily have to be the same breed as Bojangles, either.

If you can afford it, adopt a pair of dogs.  The next loss won't seem as severe if the dog still has another companion.  The two dogs probably shouldn't know each other, otherwise your present one could be excluded.  One of the dogs could also get excluded if they're a lot younger or older than the other two.

I'd suggest one about 7-8 years old and the other 9-10, but obviously that's not set in stone.  That way, when the oldest passes on, you'll have time to introduce another dog.  When the new dog and the other two grow close, no one'll be alone when the next one goes away.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestion but My parents let me have my old dog Hunter back. (A Golden retriver). Bogangles and Hunter were friends before I moved out but I left Hunter to my parents since they wanted him more. So all is solved.

saw this kind of late, and sorry to hear.

I have many animals and i think its always best for the company. ususally the older dogs go through the jealousy, but its fleeting..they like it in the long run.
