Hart vs. austin

I remember reading Scott Keith's review of the Iron Man Match at WrestleMania XII and he bitched about Hart no selling what Michael's was doing to his arm... or no selling the after affects. But I noticed something about the Hart/Austin match that I haven't seen many people take note of when reviewing it... Hart viciously attacks Austin's leg for quite a while, including the spot where he places the ring post figure four spot... and Austin sells it for about 45 seconds and completely forgets about it. I'm not knocking the match, because it's still freakin' awesome, however I find it strange that nobody's pointed this out...

Maybe people just forget about it because of the quality of the match. It saved that ppv!

It must have been a real come down for poor Bret after that match to have the shite in the main event handed to him...

Yeah, Austins selling of the leg, while good at times, was weak when it came to his offense.

 

HOWEVER, the match was all about being anti-traditional.  For months these two men had waged war, Bret Hart being the traditionalist, Steve Austin being the Anarchist.  Little by Litte Bret started to defy tradition, swearing in the ring, beating up the owner, etc.  he was BECOMING what he hated.  So there you have WM 13, a match that defied traditional wrestling and traditional wrestling techniques.  An I quit match that never had an I quit, a Heel vs. Face that ended with the heel being cheered and the face being booed.

Props to Rudo, well written and I never thought about the anti traditional wrestling aspect but it makes a lot of sense whether it was intentional or not.  That match is the only reason I don't hate WM 13 although the Street fight and the tag title match helped a little bit.
