Cameo/Guest Shots

Recommended Posts

I think awhile ago I saw a thread similar to this, but I did not find it in the archives.

I had to write about this because I saw it last night on Family Ties.

Tom Hanks, as that dastardly drunken' Uncle Ned. Complete with Hanks drinking vanilla extract since he was out of booze, being drunk for his job interview, and an open hand slap on Michael J. Fox that not only knocked him to the ground, but also two feet off the ground.

Great cheesy stuff, what are some other of your favorites of guest appearances?

Tom Hanks was on an episode of Happy Days, too. He played this guy who wanted to beat up the Fonz for pushing him off a swing in the 3rd grade.

The guy who played Mayor Wilikns had a small guest role on The West Wing, as the Secretary of Agriculture, or something. He had a nice scene with Martin Sheen.

Loved Tom Hanks as Uncle Ned! That slap missed by like three feet, but MJF sold it well. By the way, Tom Hanks also had a cameo on Taxi as a stoner. What about Dave Letterman on Mork and Mindy? He was AWESOME. I loved Chris Farley's real brief cameo on Roseanne in about 1991 or 1992. George Clooney on Golden Girls. Brad Pitt on Head of the Class and Growing Pains. Oh, and Courtney Cox in her underwear on Dream On. Out of all the naked women they had on that show, and they skip over a Courtney Cox sex scene? They showed her in her underwear doing a "fuck me" pose and then cut to the morning when she was leaving the room. That seriously pissed me off as a kid

I remember when Jerry Lewis showed up on Mad About You. That was weird. There was also the episode where the baby is born and Paul Reiser is running through the sewers with a brain damaged Bruce Willis. Then on another episode they spent the whole time talking about Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and at the end of the show he's at their doorstep looking for another apartment.

Gary Coleman on the Jeffersons. I remember this because he said something which was dubbed over with something else, so apparently the original line was too risque or something, I don't know. I'm curious what it was, and really have no guesses, as they said nigger all the time on there and I don't think they'd even try anything else comparable to that.

Bob Odenkirk on Seinfeld was good, him playing Elaine's doctor boyfriend who really wasn't. Speaking of Bob Odenkirk, his shot as porno Gil on Curb Your Enthusiasm was probably my favorite part of that show ever. Bob's cool.

I've been watching the CHEERS Seasons 1-3 on DVD and have seen Carol Kane, Christopher Lloyd, Harry Anderson (as Harry "The Hat"), and Dick Cavett (as himself).

Ane people that went on to be bigger than they were at the time: Corey Feldmen, David Paymer, Rhonda Shear, Markie Post, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

And I can't wait for Season 5! John Cleese!

Mark Hammill (Luke Skywalker) was one of the cast members for the pilot episode of "Eight is Enough."

True story.

Reggie Miller was on Hangin' with Mr. Cooper once, too.

One of the worst cameos was a pointless Billy Crystal/Robin Williams one on Friends.

Still with Friends, I found it funny-weird that both of Rachel's parents (Ron Liebman and Marlo Thomas) found recurring roles on Law & Order: SVU as mentors to Alex Cabot and Casey Novak, respectively.

Another favourite - Brent Spiner as a recurring hick on Night Court

Kevin Bacon on Will & Grace was pretty funny, when the Footlose music started by just clapping in his house.

Brooke Shields, Julia Roberts and Van Damme all at the same time in Friends.

And all of you conservatives who said Joh Kerry has no charisma, my TV was bleeding charisma from his spot on Cheers last night!

Truly the epitomy of pointless cameos.

Night Court always had great cameos, although Mel Torme's recurring role got a bit old after a while. One episode had Wile E. Coyote (yes, animated!) making an appearance. I'm not sure why the writers threw that gag in.

Best cameo ever: Richard Nixon on Laugh-In.

It was one of those episodes where they had to get through a bunch of cases fast (always good) where Wile E. showed up. The gag was they were just showing a second of each case, as they grew more and more outlandish, culminating with a cartoon. This was also around Roger Rabbit time, I think, so it was in vogue.
