The "should i stick with...?" thread

If you're feeling a little iffy about a title you collect, share it here, where we can either encourage you, try and change your mind, or not care.

I'm considering dropping the 2 Bat-titles I read (Detective and Batman). Greg Rucka's and Shawn Martinbrough's work on 'Tec were the reasons I bought the titles in the first place. With Martinbrough gone, and Rucka halfway out the door, this might be a good time for me to join them. Though I've liked his work elsewhere (Scene of the Crime and Catwoman), Brubaker's Bat-work has been underwhelming, except for that one subplot with Bruce's childhood girlfriend.

Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee will be taking over Batman from Brubaker, who's moving over to 'Tec. I *did* like The Last Halloween, but I've never been particularly moved to collect any of Loeb's titles. I'll probably give them a chance, but if they don't really wow me (and if they drop a lot of Rucka's trademarks, like Sasha, the focus on the GCPD, the new Commissioner, in favor of the tried-and-true boring stuff), I'll be dropping them like a hot potato!

What do you all think? And what are some of your "on-the- fence" titles?

Deadman was on the fence, but I got off the fence and stopped after the first story arc.

Hulk is on the fence.   They had best be going somewhere with this 'wandering Bruce'/zombie assasin thing.   Because I've seen the wandering Hulk pursued by the government thing many times, and its rather tired for me.

Batman has been picking up, but 'Tec is on the downturn for me.   I'm in until at least the end of Fugitive, but we'll see what happens.

I think you should probably give each title one story arc to see if you like the new direction and style of that book.  I did that with G.I.Joe - I got the miniseries, and it was fine, but not good enough to warrant me spending money on the ongoing.

I hate to say this, since X-Men got me into comics, but I migh get rid of New X-Men. My favorite character (Wolverine) is being wasted, Cassandra Nova's quickly become a laughable villain, and the new Angel blows meat missle in a variety of ways.

Rising Stars is also on the bubble, since after the Chicago arc, everything has been crap.

Excellent odea.

IMO, you should give Loeb/Lee a try, at least until Mr. Lee becomes lazy again and bring back some fill in.

Cassandra Nova's quickly become a laughable villain,

How so? So far, she's

a) been responsible for the death of millions of mutants (good riddance to Genosha)

b) essentially killed off Xavier

c) conquered the Shiar empire

d) infected the X-Men with nano-sentinels, which are slowly killing all of them

e) is posed to snuff out the entire Xavier school and the roster of X-Men residing there.

Of course, we all know that she's going to lose in the end, but IMO she's the most refreshing X-villain to come along in YEARS.  Finally, the X-Men are facing a villain that makes them vulnerable again.

Loeb is writing Batman now?  That'd be reason enough for me to quit.  I've always thought he was overrated.  Long Halloween was good, sure, but beyond that, I've never been that enamored with him.

I think Nova is laughable for all the reasons you stated. Morisson has set it up so there's no way to beat her that isn't a cop-out. To me, that's a weak villain. Villains need as many flaws as heroes to be legitimate threats, IMHO.

im on the fence about:

New X-Men. I love the writing but Quietly has got to be there every month.

Punisher: no Garth, hard to justify

The Order: has been a letdown so far

back on the good side of the fence to buy:

Savage Dragon. welcome back to the real world!

I agree with the anti Nova brigade although I'm not near dropping the title yet.

Avengers

Punisher

Transmetropolitan

are all very close to being dropped

Suicide Squad

Doom Patrol

were given a chance and found wanting

I dropped Punisher the moment Ennis left. Good thing he's back in July. As of yesterday, I officially dropped JLA & Wonder Woman. Reasons to come...
