When benoit comes back

Recommended Posts

Guest ManKinnd

When Austin returned from neck surgery, he was better than ever and had the greatest year wrestling quality wise any one could ask for. However, when HHH returned from his quad, he was rusty, slow, and boring. He's getting better now, but he's a long shot away from the greatness he once was. So my question is about Benoit: Will he pull and Austin or Helmsley when he comes back? There's plenty of Benoit marks on here, so I expect more of the former.

Actually Austin sucked when he first came back. He had a significant amount of ring rust on him that he shook off in time. HHH is no different. Since most on here hate HHH, they waste no time bashing his abilities, yet they seem to forget that Austin was no better for a while there too. I suspect that when Benoit comes back, he won't be as great as he was before he left and rightfully so. He'll get there though I'm sure. But my question is... are the Benoit is God marks on here going to bash him if Benoit isn't as good as he was say in 4 months? Probably not.

I think everyone makes too much of a big deal about HHH's injury.  His match on Smackdown was eons better than their match at 'Mania, and HHH showed signs that he was improving in the ring.

Now with Hogan on top, I'm pretty sure that HHH will step up his cardio training and lose some weight to get faster....because that will make him look better and more marketable again.

As for Beniot, I think for the most part, he'll be the same, but I don't think he'll be taking as many risks as he did (Headbutt off the cage, through a table, etc).

Trouble is.. he went down hill when he came to the WWF.. he's really boring.. I doubt I'll ever seen him in his Japanese style again.. unless the New Japan 3 get one last huge mother fuck it all match.

Well, his moveset, like most everyone elses, is limited by the 'WWF style'. Plus he can't do his truly viscious moces like his powerbombs and drivers. One thing about the injuries to note is that Austin had been notably deteriorating in the ring, since his injuries were nagging, and he worked through them for a while. Once he shook off the rust, he was better than anyone had seen him in quite a while, since the injuries were somewhat healed.

With HHH, he was at the absolute top of his game, when he suffered a sudden injury, one that couldn't be worked through. Therefore, when he came back, he had some rust, and everyone who had been used to all his matches being good->great started criticizing. I don't like his character now, but he's wrestling well. Not great, well. Hopefully, in a few months he'll be as great in the ring as we all remembered.

As to Benoit, like everyone else, he'll have ring rust. I bet he'll still be one of the top 3-5 workers, though!

Benoit at 50% is still better than half of the WWF roster.

plus, remember that the WWF doesn't have quite the depthy at the upper level that it needs to support compelling tv.  Look at their resort with hulk hogan, I seriously think he's just an experiment till they can get all they ducks in a row

Ever since you switched from Lyger, Damaramu, I've been wondering, who the hell is your avatar?

PS-The real MD kicks ass.

Which MD, 1, 2 or Beta?

I guess you mean 2 as that's done most in the states and most people don't take it like the piledriver bump it's meant to be.

Benoit needs someone i can work with properly and some time, like Angle or Storm, and a 15+ minutes

And does anyone else thing Benoit had a really weird style to his Wild Bombs?

I didn't find his wild bombs really wierd some much as really, really stiff. There's a reason he doesn't use them anymore, accept on a few occasions.

Benoit probably will suffer from ring rust like everyone else, but I'm sure he'll work through it as quickly as he can. Maybe he won't be as eager to kill himself as he was before, but for a guy who's been in the business as long as Benoit has, he was pretty crazy to be taking bumps like that anyway.

Oh, and not to BUTT in, but I'm pretty sure Daramu's Avatar is Gran Naniwa.

Unlike Austin and Triple H, Benoit has been sent down to the trainers to work off ring rust before he comes back. Triple H didn't do that at all.

If he's crab walk elbow boy, then I've seen him quite a few times he probably changes his costume though, cause I've never seen that one. Speaking of odd avatar, have you ever seen pictures of the guy Goodhelmet used to have as his avatar? Stoker? What the fuck?

Neither did Austin. And Austin didn't have a good match til No Way Out 2/3 falls with HHH. Then Austin went on an incredible run of great matches with great opponents.

I beg to differ.  I think Austin had two good matches with Chris Benoit on Raw.  Austin's ring rust lasted for about 2 months maybe.  Don't forget in January he started to have great matches with Kurt Angle on Raw (please don't say Angle did everything).  True, Austin's first month and a half back he was rusty, but Triple H has been back for over three months, and he's still lethargic with his matches (and promos).

As for Benoit, I'm sure he'll be somewhat rusty when he comes back, but he's professional enough to improve drastically to return to his excellent workrate he had before his injury.....

That's your opinion and I respect that. However my vision of Austin is a little different than yours. Austin had a horrible match with Rikishi his first time out. His survivor series match with HHH was awful and not just because of the horrible no contest ending. The armegeddon 6 man HIAC match was good, but not from a workrate standpoint from Austin. I don't remember Austin wrestling Benoit twice between there and his match with Angle in January was where he started to get above average in ring work. But he still couldn't work the Rumble that long because he was #27. (HHH wasn't any better this year in at #24) Then he had the 2/3 that was between **** and ***** depending on your criticality. I admit it took Austin less time to get back to outstanding, but he was smart didnt come in with too much extra bulk.

Austin had a ring installed in his house two or three motnhs prior to his return, just to clarify things.

HHH also worked with a ring at the rehab facility the last 2 or so months of his rehab, just to clarify things. (although that just makes HHH seem worse as far as where he is in-ring)

I don't know but it seems to me with the whole brand extension thing going on where HHH would maybe wrestle on both shows he is really only wrestling on one so that may play a factor.  Also his opponents haven't been up to par (not counting Jericho at WM but that was his first real match of any length).

It is indeed the funniest wrestler alive: Gran Naniwa. NANIWA~!

I had a few failed avatars in between Lyger and Naniwa. Hayabusa and don't get me started on my failed attempt with Super Delfin as an avatar.

Crab Elbow=RATINGS~! And don't let ROCKY tell you otherwise...that would get over HUGE in the states. A FUCKING CRAB dancing on the ropes and dropping an elbow. How sweet is that? Better than the worm, that's all I know.

The funniest thing I've seen Naniwa do and it wasn't even supposed to be funny was before a tag match he was staring down K-DX and he throws one of his crab claws in TAKA's face and TAKA acts like he was just slapped. It was pretty funny.

Of the major Austin matches I saw from last year, I'd say:

vs. HHH (No Way Out) ***1/2

vs. Rock (WM) ****

w/HHH vs. Jericho/Benoit (Raw) ****

vs. Benoit (Smackdown) ****1/4

vs. Angle (Summerslam) ****

I think he will be about the same. He should be able to modify his style to take out the risky stuf. Thank god he wont be doing the headbutt anymore. Nobody should be snapping their neck back like that.

actually, i looked at the raw stats for that match & it said trips ended up wrestling for about 20 minutes.

vs. Angle (Summerslam) ****

that's a little harsh, isn't it?  i've watched that match 3 or 4 times & i think it gets a bad rap for the ending, the psychology, storytelling, & intensity were absolutely off the page in that match.  i think it's austin's best match since he came back, & probably angle's best match ever.

Nobody comes back as godd as they were when they were gone, even if it takes them a short amount of time to get back to their old form. I think Benoit can get back to his old form, it's just a matter of how long it will take.

No.  It's a strong match, better than any of Austin's matches against Rock or HHH last year, but I preferred the Benoit match from Smackdown, because I felt that the work and heat were better.  Both matches had shitty finishes though.

However, neither match is in the same universe as the WWF's best efforts (Bret-Austin twice, Bret-Owen, Michaels-Mankind, Michaels-Ramon ladder matches), so I can't rate them at that level.

I watched that RAW cage match with my brother and I was kdding around and doing commentary. Doing my commentary made me realize just how good the match was because I was getting into it and being a dickhead, while my brother was into it because I was making a big deal about Angle and acting like I wanted him to win. I could have muted the match and told you there was heat for it because there was heat for it in my house. There was heat for a lot of stuff that summer, Rock/Booker T and Angle/Austin in particular. Playing a mark and trash talking with someone else is great fun sometimes.
