George Mayfield doing his last

Recommended Posts

Guest Dynamite Kido

I read this on pwinsider, and I've met George on several occasions and he is a good guy. For those of you who don't know....he's doing a trip to Japan(that he's been doing for years) and here is the rundown if anyone is interested:

MAYFIELD MAYHEM ANNOUNCES HIS FINAL TOKYO TOUR

by George Mayfield @ 11:02:00 AM on 8/3/2004

January, 1994...I remember it like it was yesterday. I boarded a plane in Toronto,  Ontario, Canada heading to Tokyo, Japan. Since this was my 1st trip to Tokyo, I didn't have any friends, didn't know my way around, and basically was frightened to death. The only show tickets I had were 8th row ringside seats for the 1/4 New Japan Tokyo Dome Show.

January, 2005 ... I had planned on making my final trip to Tokyo. Several people got wind of this and asked if I'd do one last "Tokyo Tour".  After much thought, I've agreed. With that in mind, here are the details on the Mayfield Mayhem "Final Tokyo Tour"

Come January, 2005, We'll be joining several of my good friends (Tony Brown, Bill Pancoast, Buck Woodward and others) for our week of non-stop wrestling madness. We'll leave America on Sunday January 2nd, arriving in Tokyo on January 3rd. We'll spend 8 nights at the YMCA and return home on Tuesday January 11th. During that time, we'll be attending several wrestling shows. They include the 1/4 New Japan Dome Show and I just received confirmation that NOAH, which usually runs Budokan Hall on 1/10, is considering running the Dome instead. I'll be in contact with Steve Corino about Zero-One, and friends at All Japan, All Japan Women and A to Z about any shows they may run during this time period. If you've ever gone to my site and seen the photos, then you know I've met just about all the major stars, and you can too. Sound like something you might be interested in?

Here's what you'll get for your money........

1) Round Trip Air Fare

2) Round Trip Transportation to and from Tokyo's Narita Airport

3) Hotel Accommodations for 8 nights, breakfast included

4) Tickets for 3 Wrestling shows, including the 1/4/05 New Japan Dome Show

5) 10% Discount at 3 different Wrestling Merchandise Stores

6) Dinner at the World Famous "Ribera" Steakhouse

7) The opportunity to meet some of the Best Japanese Wrestlers in the world

The experience, memories, photos and friends you'll make will make this trip priceless. Can YOU make your own reservations and go to Tokyo at a cheaper price? Yes, but when the shows are over, and you're wondering "What do I do now"? My tour party will be having dinner with various wrestling stars at such places as Mr. Danger's Steakhouse, making friends with other wrestling fans, posing for photos and getting autographs from Japan's biggest stars.

If you want to be a part of the 2005 Mayfield Mayhem Tokyo Tour you.....

Must agree to.....Have a Valid PASSPORT

Must agree to.....Bring no illegal drugs with you

Must agree to.....Do NOTHING that will embarrass the members of the tour party, my

friends or myself. Keep in mind the Japanese culture is quite different

                        from ours.

Must agree to.....Pay your NON REFUNDABLE Deposit of $250.00 by Monday August 30th

and pay the balance of $3,049.00 by September 27th

If you feel you can agree to these terms, and you're ready to have the "BEST" time of your Wrestling life, contact me at [email protected].

I expect my website to be back up in the next 4 - 6 weeks.

Gauging by your 'quantity over quality' attitude, you're right!

And informing everyone of what Mayfield is doing, vis a vis his overpriced, fanboy-fellating trips to Tokyo, is a bit like keeping tabs on what Misawa has for breakfast.

And you'd be wasting your money and time. How about actually DOING THE RESEARCH on how much it would cost before assuming you know?? His cost is $3300, all told. A plane ticket out of the U.S. runs you between $800-1200, depending on how far you book in advance and where you're coming from - a few hours of careful shopping around will get you a good deal. Staying at the Tokyo Green - an actual HOTEL near the Dome, rather than the fucking YMCA - runs you in the neighborhood of $65-80 per night. So that's $640 for the full 8 nights, at most. A good railway ticket's going to run you in the neighborhood of $100-120 for that long of a stay, and it lets you get around quite a bit and see things in Japan that aren't just wrestling-related -- after all, there's a Hell of a lot more to do there than watch wrestling, not to mention that you don't have to sit there with your thumb up your ass, surrounded by your fellow suckers, on the nights when there isn't a show. So transportation, a real hotel, and round-trip airfare runs you about $1900, and that's being liberal with the cost. Toss in another $300 for food and another $200-$400 for getting into shows, buying merch, and paying for things to do, and you're up to $24-2500, still a good $800+ short of his total. And you're not sleeping on a cot in the YMCA, you're not being led around by the nose by someone who's counting your money once you go to sleep, and you don't get looked at like a markish buffoon by all the wrestlers you get to 'meet'. Hell, you could take the extra money with you anyway and blow it on better seats, cooler swag, and great restaurants every night. And besides, if it's his last trip, you may as well go it on your own and learn the ropes sooner rather than later.

I would pay him, not to have to deal with all the hassle. And if I weren't already gonna be gone on business, I'd definitely go.

Or, you could go on the trip and avoid all the inconviences. Do you speak Japanese? I don't. I would much rather go with someone who I trust then try and do it all on my own. I've met George several times, and he is a decent enough guy. So thus, I would trust his judgement and his knowledge without thinking he's fucking me over on the trip. I am not going anyway.....as I can't afford it. Also, since when do you care what other people do with their money? I just thought, that it might be a decent idea and if someone would want to go to Japan and wouldn't because of the things I mentioned above....this would be an easier way.

Are there no tour guides in Japan that can serve the same purpose while you still save the money?

I wouldn't know. So basically this sounds decent to me.

So basically you're cool with spending nearly 1k bucks more so you don't have to worry about researching it?

Not necessarily. It would depend on what the other tours offered compared to his and how much they were. But I would rather spend an extra 1K if it meant I didn't have to worry about comunicating with all the people that don't speak any english. For me it would just make the trip easier and more fun(so that you can just worry about the shows your going to).

This is the first pro-wrestling tour guide I've heard of ever. I've priced other international trips (non-wrestling related) and this is not outrageously priced. T be with a group of like minded people, with the meals, and meeting the wrestlers, and the tickets themselves, this looks like a decent deal. I'm sure not the cheapest way to go to Japan, as I have a flat-bottom boat that I could theoretically paddle their for free, but this way seems more appealing somehow.

Basically what I meant. Nicely put WMD.

I'd love to go on one of those trips. If you don't like the price just don't go but personally I think it's a fair deal.

Aahaha. I remember that, it was on that pathetic CZWFans board or something.

Nah, SCU. Speaking of which, I can't get on right now for some reason, and I wanna find out more about Gary Yap's arrest (The ex-EPIC Pro Wrestling owner) and I know SCU would have the info.
