Lou thesz...

from 1wrestling.com

"Lou Thesz, the legendary former multiple time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, has passed away.

Thesz had undergone a triple bypass surgery earlier in April and had been recuperating from the surgery.

Although he had long retired when the internet came along, Thesz took time to communicate with fans online first on AOL's Grandstand, and more recently at WrestlingClassics.com, where fans are remembering the great champion who had become an online friend through his postings.

We will have a tribute to Lou Thesz and a title history posted later today.

The entire staff of 1Wrestling.com mourns the passing of one of wrestlings greatest champions."

I've never seen at Lou matches, but I heard he was good. It is sad the he died though. I ordered his book, so I hope to read it soon.

I want to say "Oh Thesz was a great wrestler! I'll miss him!" but truth is I never saw him wrestle and don't know much about him except that he "lived wrestling, he breathed it, and he ate it".

I wonder if the WWF will give him a ten bell salute tommorow night on raw or have a tribute for him of some kind. Thesz was as someone on another board put it, "The Babe Ruth of pro wrestling," but since most WWF fans know nothing of him it won't suprise me if the WWF doesn't do anything special. It seems the WWF acknowledges some wrestler's deaths while ignoring others as if they had never been part of the "WWF family" or made a contribution to professional wrestling in general.

I'd be willing to bet that JR makes a mention of it. He ususally does when someone dies. When Chris Adams died, didn't Regal do something?

Anyone who can invent both the STF and the power bomb has to be some good in my book.

RIP Lou.

I also can't say I've seen Lou wrestle, but RIP Lou.  This is truely a dark day in wrestling history, as we see one of the sports original legends pass away.  RIP.

Having never seen a Lou Thesz match it would be crass for me to come here and say that I loved him and was a big fan. But I do know what he did for the sport.

Rest in peace, Lou. I'll be missin' ya.

This is a Sad for Wrestling. One of it's ambassadors has passed away. RIP Lou.

On other accords, You can expect A image of Lou Thesz with the usual ????-2002 caption and Austin to do the thesz press without the punches. Jim Ross makes mention of it and that's it and maybe a tribute on the website.

I am deeply saddened... there are no words that can best describe the contributions Thesz gave to Professional Wrestling... during a time when it was wrestling, not "sports entertainment." This is a truly sad day for a true wrestling fan. If the WWF doesn't acknowledge Thesz in some way, then I am going to completely boycott it for a long time. Not mentioning Wahoo McDaniel is one thing... but this is freakin' Lou Thesz for God's sake.

It's very weird. I had heard a lot about Lou Thesz, but never actually seen him. Then, last night, I was watching that Slam History of Wrestling show and saw Lou for the first time. Then, he died today. I've never seen his matches, but out of respect, I say RIP Lou Thesz.

I believe he was 86.

There is no doubt in my mind that Thesz was the greatest wrestler of all time, and noone has made a bigger contribution to the sport than he did. RIP Lou Thesz

Sad news indeed.

I'm sure on RAW, Austin will bust out the Thesz Press in tribute, and JR will make mention that "that one's for Lou".

Damn... that's sad to hear.

And just to think, today, on the SJL Board, I nearly deleted the Lou Thesz Press from my stats...

RIP, Lou. You will be missed.

RIP Lou.

I guarantee they'll do the 10-bell salute for Lou on Raw.  He did way too much for the business for them to just mention it in passing.

Wasn't he on a ppv a couple years back when the WWF honored some wrestling legends? I hope the WWF says something, it would be a shame if they didn't.

Rest In Peace Lou.

It sounds like I'm one of the few people to have seen Lou wrestle. My father has an old grainy black and white tape featuring Thesz versus some masked wrestler and Lou was amazing.

That's awesome CWM, it sounds like you're really lucky.  I know I've never seen Lou Thesz wrestle, and would have never seen him ever except I was watching the WCW "Legends Reunion" Starrcade that my friend lent me, and he was honored there in WCW's Wrestling Hall of Fame (which now probably doesn't even exist).

R.I.P. Lou

Even though wrestling as a business hardly ever honors those who put their lives into making it what it is, Ric Flair has always been someone who has reminded people of all the greats that set the tradition for what pro wrestling currently is. Hopefully Flair will mention him, or if not he, then JR. A ten-ring salute would be nice, too. RIP, Lou.

oh shut the fuck up you lying sack of shit

if they dont have a 10 bell salute, you wont boycott, you'll turn it off for five minutes, then think, maybe lance storm might get on, stop masturbating..., or not, and put TNN back on

why?

because you are worse than a mark sheep, you're a smark sheep. No matter what happens, you wont turn away, because far too much of your life is dependant on 4 hours of television programming every week. You need the WWF, cause you have nothing else to do with your time but bitch about storylines and workrate
