Guest BottleRocket Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 Even though we appear to be finished with this topic, I e-mailed a friend in Japan for his thoughts on the subject... Puroresu is technically pronounced "Poo roh re suu". However, as you probably know, it comes from a shortened form of the English "Pro Wrestling", so it's natural that a native English speaker would pronounce and hear it as something like "pro ress". That would not be correct Japanese, but I'm sure the meaning would get across anyway. The Japanese are crazy about shortening English "loan words", thus we have "Wa puro" from Wado Purosesaa (word proccessor) "Amey futo" from (American Football) and, my favorite, "Rori-con" (Lolita complex).
